Well, we had quite the Fabruary, Jonasfans, and the last couple of weeks have been pretty intense in their way, or was that just me feelin’ it?
So here we are, already almost halfway through March, or as I have decided to dub it, “Merch”.
…Since the month so far has been marked by much ado about box office, concert ticket neuroses (we all suffer), clothing line launches, corporate marketing-skewering parodies and the pitfalls of the hype machine in general, this seemed appropriate. Merch, in that broad sense, can be some insidious stuff. So, beware the Ides! (BTW – I swear we won’t be renaming every month…maybe.)
But it doesn’t have to be all negative…while the Boys’ likenesses are splashed all over creation and on the minds of many and not always to the greatest acclaim, the actual real-life Boys appear to be pretty safely ensconced in the studio lately (YAY), in good company, and at the moment, performing in the Bahamas (aka “Paradise“…sure, rub it in).
And I am actually starting to see there are benefits of Jonas infiltration in the public consciousness to somewhat balance the drawbacks of backlash: now everyone seems to know their story (or at least certain, overemphasized elements of it – sigh) and more people than ever seem interested in seeing it through, whether they are lovers or haters. [But that’s an angle to mull on another day.]
Thusly – being a Reveler continues to be one of the crazier, more exciting trips I’ve ever taken…it can be intense and uncertain, this fame thing, eh? But we discerning types know (hope) the Jonases are made of stern stuff. And we’re not so alone.
Wanna know the best new positive reassurance I’ve found? I’ll show you…after the jump!
With new music and concerts coming down the pike to bring us the awesome (kippis!), I want to focus on the positive. You know what has made that hard lately? Friggin’ GOOGLE ALERTS. Not much there but gossip and editorial coverage of rather debatable value.
Oddly enough, it’s everyone’s latest fixation – Twitter – that has given me a new resource for the good.
For the uninitiated, at its worst, getting involved with Twitter is like suddenly having the ability to read minds and then walking into a crowded shopping mall – totally overwhelming and frequently disturbing to hear what’s on people’s minds. But once you learn to manage the superpower (or achieve some level of self control with it…er…still working on that) it can be quite neat.
So yes, Sibling Revelry has a Twitter. And I downloaded a management app that lets me track who we follow, and even better – do keyword search alerts! You put in a phrase and any time it’s uttered in the Twittersphere, it is delivered to your little inbox. Being for the blog, I gave “jonas brothers” a try. What a treasure trove!
It turns out people are tweeting about the Jonases incessantly. Some of what you find is predictably annoying and not very nice, but a lot of it is sweet, funny and sometimes pleasantly surprising in who is talking about them and what they are saying. And the balance of positive vs negative is a lot healthier than what you find in the “news”.
So I’ve started favoriting the gems…sometimes they are just simple expressions of fanlove we will instantly identify with…sometimes it’s other kinds of reflections. Here’s one of my favorites:
On the list you won’t always find slobbering praise, but you’ll never find cruelty. And any of you can keep tabs on these updates (I’ll try to add to it regularly), or even subscribe to them in a reader, if you feel the need.
Kind of amazing how much those boys spring to people’s minds, isn’t it? But I know something as simple as these little tweets makes me feel good, so what else matters?
