Hmm…
[Now with minty-fresh, reassuring-ier updates from 11/16-17/09!]
Nothin’ processed yet. Not sure what to think yet, but…
See Paragraph Eleven in this link for Mama J’s mention of a possibly pending Nick J solo project.
…And sorry if the large question mark alarmed anyone! LOL. Was going for “fast & flippant” not “gloom & doom”!
UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE!!!
And like a beautifully executed sports maneuver of some kind (sorry not sports-oriented enough to flesh that one out), People Magazine is picking up the chattering, convulsive pieces of the fandom, and beyond, and piecing things together…thanks to this MySpace post from the fellas themselves:
WE ARE NOT BREAKING UP
Hey everyone!
#1 – The Jonas Brothers are NOT breaking up!
#2 – Nick Jonas IS working on a side project called
Nick Jonas & The Administration
#3 – This project will be released early in 2010
#4 – We are ALL excited about this project AND what we are doing TOGETHER!
#5 – We plan to make music together for as long as we can.
To our dearest fans,
A news story hit the internet today concerning Nick Jonas & The Administration. We are so excited to share it with you…OUR FANS.
From Nick:
About 6 months ago, the three of us had a 2 week break from touring, and we all decided to go and do something that was on our hearts. Joe went on a trip to Australia and New Zealand. Kevin spent some time with his fiancé Danielle. I decided to go to Nashville, TN to make a side project (Nick Jonas & The Administration) with 4 musicians – guys that I had met and worked with before. If I was to describe the sound to someone… I would say its “heart & soul”, because the music that I make is from my heart, and the lyrics I write are from my soul.
We’ve said from the beginning of our career as the Jonas Brothers that anything we do outside of the group is a side project because you can’t break up brothers. My brothers are my biggest supporters, and were on the phone with me every day while I was in the studio asking how it was going, and telling me they couldn’t wait to hear the record.
My brothers and I couldn’t be more excited to have these amazing opportunities as a group, and as individuals. We are already planning another world tour AS THE JONAS BROTHERS next summer, and it is all thanks to our amazing fans.
I am so excited to share more details about my project with all of you as we come closer to the end of the year, but for right now, Kevin, Joe and I have a show to play in Venezuela!
From Joe and Kevin:
We are so proud of our brother Nick. We know that we will be doing music together for the rest of our lives. But we are thrilled for you to hear these songs that were on his heart. They are amazing works of art from an amazing talent…our brother. We will see you later this year, next year, and hopefully for the rest of our lives.
“A three chord strand is not easily broken”, and one thing’s for sure… this three chord strand is stronger now than it’s ever been.
You are truly the best fans in the world, and we love you with all our hearts.
JB
Kevin, Joe and Nick
Well played, my beloveds.
NOV ‘09 UPDATES:
The first clip of Nick’s new song leaked on November 16th,along with a release date for the first single – December 3rd, and the album, which is dropping in February. Here’s the clip:
Accompanying this is a bit of PR via USAToday late on November 17th. Check it out here: http://www.usatoday.com/life/music/news/2009-11-12-nick-jonas_N.htm …
Now.Again.
…We want to know what YOU think! Discuss!
[Via: JonasPhotos.org]

I think y’all should chillax and wait until NICK confirms or denies these ‘rumors’ and cmon, even if he confirms that…its not the end of the world! they already said that the band wont be over because of kevin’s wedding and everything. we have the exemple of alot of bands like BEP: fergie and will i am both have solo projects but the band still exist and well, theyre kicking some asses with the new album. a solo project isnt the end of the world, we need to TRUST them!
Thanks for your input…I don’t think we’re inclined to panic about it, so much as making a space for our regular readers to discuss their thoughts about it. Thanks!
I don’t think we are being un-chillaxed, but I hear what you’re saying.
I do trust them.
I would say that Denise is a pretty good confirmation, but I hear you about that too.
This is really a place to talk it out – we are making no judgements or predictions. We just want to know how everyone is feeling.
It was too big of a thing for us to ignore.
I – for one – am with you in the “chill out and wait” column.
I don’t believe this is the end of JB.
As I said on twitter: I will support hem as individuals in whatever projects they do and will always come back to being a JB superfan.
My fingers are crossed for Kevin’s country album. (Now I’ve started a rumor.)
I think it would be unfair to their talents and passion if we, as fans, demanded that they follow only one outlet. They started so young and still are so young that there is so much to explore and they owe it to themselves to follow their own dreams as well as the group dream. I don’t see side projects as any sort of impending threat. They love what they do too much to disappear. They are just growing up.
I wonder if Nick’s solo project (if confirmed) will be quite funky?
I agree on all counts. And I like your rumor.
I’m voting for funky! Way funky!
I’ve read that Nick’s style of music is more funky than what he is allowed to do with the Jonas Brothers. Joe has said several times that they plan to do “side projects” that won’t interfere with the band. It makes me wonder who The Administration is. Bulldozer seems to be making their own CD so I assume it isn’t John Taylor, Ryan, Garbo, and Jack. I’m going to be very curious until it’s confirmed or released!
funky like Bounce?? I like that!!
Thanks for the thread!!
I agree with sharpld and look forward to any and all side and solo projects.
After reading the article I think Denise is pretty much confirming it. Parade is not OK Magazine and I think they would be careful about what they print.
But I wonder if she knew what a storm she would cause??
I seriously doubt she did! It’s a helluva info leak!
right?? I know peeople are saying it’s a joke but she’s always kind of candid and maybe it just all seems natural to her since he was the original solo artist in the family. Interesting…
I panicked.. i mean really panicked for a moment, but now I am breathing.. I personally think Mama J was screwing with the press. I feel like the boys are really in this place of taking their lives in their own hands.. I mean come on.. they gave us Bounce! So I feel like they may have reached the place where they wanted to stir their own pot and start a rumor rather than hear another lame ass rumor about themselves. I feel like LVaTT was the beginning of the we are going to kick ass and take names phase.. where they really are calling the shots and if you like it great.. if you don’t whatever.. they are not losing sleep any more..
Now, if it is true of course I support Nick; I just don’t want it to be the end of JB. I am not ready to get off this ride yet.
I trust my babies… i feel a bit guilty for panicking and I am now just sitting back & enjoying the ride.
I love that word – chillax…
But seriously, what I love about SR – this community – is our ability to discuss different things, (usually related to JB) with reasonable calmness and logic and without totally freaking out. I’m not saying that we don’t get excited, but we can think through these things and discuss them with each other.
Everytime I read comments on youtube, I’m flabbergasted at the things some people say – so crude, so mean. It just boggles my mind. But here, we can love JB and still discuss, put different ideas out there… I find it helpful. And enjoyable. I’m not saying that I’ve agreed with everyone’s opinions on everything, but the comments are written so that they make you think and are respectful to all.
Re: Nick and the Administration – things that make you go hmmm – who is “the Administration”? Is this real? or Not? I admit to freaking out a little when I read Jan’s comment in the previous post, but I’m going to trust that the JB know what they’re doing.
That article on parade.com by Denise was otherwise excellent and very enjoyable.
This.
BTW, Nick has a new blog on Nickssimplewins.
off to check it out!
Their next year is still going to be a busy one as a band (well, by normal people’s standards, if not Jonas ones)…what with Camp Rock 2 releasing, and more JONAS to shoot & release.
Nick has a superhuman drive in his pursuits. I think if this project gives the other two boys a bit of breathing room to live their lives a little more professionally unencumbered (or not, their choice, bring on the side projects, LOL)….it would not be a bad thing. Not for them as people, and not for the Jonas Brothers as a band (or else the next album is going to have to be about being on tour…and doing press junkets…..jk,jk)
Anyway, I have been really behind on Twitter updates and such…are Bulldozer recordings really a sure promise?! Because that’s awesome.
I do support the whole band, sidemen included – and I truly believe in them all, in different but definite ways. I can’t promise that I’m always going to wholeheartedly embrace everything they release as a band or individuals (until I see/hear it…when I inevitably DO love it, hehe), but I can pretty much promise that my support and affection are gonna be unwavering.
Mem… Christa tweeted that she has been bulldozed…. she has heard the first 3 tracks of the album!! So, yes.. it is indeed time for us to brace for impact.
Very well said, MM, and I agree. I truly believe in all of them and will support them, but I don’t promise to love everything they do.
I lurk a lot now, but this is pretty BIG news so I couldn’t keep my mouth shut
I’m not jumping for joy at this at all :X
The main thing for me is Nick’s voice. I just don’t know how I feel about an entire album filled with Nick’s voice. I love you Nick, but your voice! We’ve talked about it here before, Nick has a very unique voice and after awhile it just sorta grates on me. I much prefer Joe’s voice or I should say I better like the sound of Nick’s voice when it blend’s with Joe’s voice (plus Kevin’s!).
I also worry as I don’t feel that Nick has the strongest of voices all the time live – and as a solo act, his voice is going to have to carry the show. And I’m not quite sure it properly will.
I would be thrilled it the album was more piano-based. I could possibly get more on board with that.
I think it will be really interesting to see Nick step into the role of solo-performer and frontman as it will be a big change. The brothers have relied on each other in everything for the past what 4 years? From TV interviews, to press conferences, to performances to simply traveling with one another and being around each other 24/7.
I really wonder what they expected the fan reaction to be?
Good points about Nick’s vocal strength. I have to wonder if his sound will be entirely different, more along the lines of Bounce or even his parts in Poison Ivy. I am excited to hear it.
Oh yes, I love his parts in Poison Ivy.
I will not rant about how much I love Nick’s voice… But I do. And I think it’s getting better and better now that he’s voice isn’t changing anymore… There are some amazing vocals (from Nick!) on LVATT.
Opinions, opinions…
_his_ voice, not he’s. Dang it!
Yeah…I tend to agree on Nick’s voice and live vocal strength, but he does record well. But I won’t begrudge him the chance to experiment, either, I guess. It will be really interesting to see what happens if the project goes off…
Also: Not 100% but I am pretty sure Joe did harmonize on some of Nick’s parts on Bounce! And I really felt like I could hear Kevin in there too, somewhere. It was subtle…or am I nuts?
I would think there would be vocals from other guys/girls on the CD, but if not, that’s good too. I think for me More Nick = Better and There Can Never Be Enough Nick.
I know, I know, it’s hardly music critic stuff, but I enjoy just listening to him speak. Just being honest. I love his voice on everything I have heard since he was 9 years old LOL.
What I don’t get is did he complete all this work in 2 weeks in Nashville? He also “helped” Jordan Pruitt at that time (she might be on the CD; she has a GORGEOUS voice, completely wasted IMO on her silly Disney songs). Is it done? Is it still in production?
I’m getting very excited. I love to see Nick following his heart and his passions – it’s what I admire most about him and it’s just awesome to watch him pursue his path. I can’t wait to hear what he has to say! and who he’s saying it with! Will there be ganjo? (I love the ganjo! LOL)
maybe this CD is going to be marketed toward a more adult audience? one can hope.
For me, I would go see Nick in a solo show anytime. I don’t see how he could find time for that though! I think he would be incredible.
I do think there will be collaboraters.
In terms of fan reaction expectations, as you mention, Mae…do you think the hint of it as buried, as it truly was, in a somewhat obscure Denise story was purposeful?…maybe they knew superfans would get to the info first….
Sorry…
When I begin to get into publicity placement conspiracy theories, I know it is time to step away from the keyboard…
I love theorizing! Who knows, maybe they let it slip in the way they did in order to gauge fan reactions before making an official statement. If so, one could say it was very well played. The word came from an obviously reliable source (their mother!) but it wasn’t an official word by any means. There is wiggle room there.
Speaking as a PR person, it’s my opinion that Denise’s statement was very well planned. She’s done enough of these interviews to know that what she says will make waves, especially since she doesn’t do interviews all that often. What was probably uncertain was the timing. Parade is distributed on Sundays, so they may have been slighly surprised that the story posted today. But my guess is that the blog was already mostly written too. Because if it was a mistake, Denise would have mentioned it so they could prepare for when it hit the news.
Mem, what could the reason be for doing it that way? how is that a positive action for them? I don’t get it at all. It just seemed kind of brutal for the young fans to get it that way.
And to have a Web site, MySpace, Facebook, Twitter, FFE and a paid member fan club and not use any of those outlets to break big news like this – had to be on purpose. So why?
It is just so difficult and important to get lots of people talking about your work. Like, people who aren’t necessarily fans. There are benefits to fans freaking out about a news bite that feels exclusive and urgent and scandalous….it creates waves that even nonfans notice.
They have been pretty chill lately, even while touring, and not getting a whole lot of media attention for much, until Joe’s haircut. I didn’t even seen “Bounce” covered in any of the more credible/reliable music blogs I read, which somewhat annoyed me. When it comes from your own mouthpieces, especially when you’re the Jonas Brothers so it’s not going to be crude, or scandalous…it is kind of easy for nonfans to ignore it. The writers seem to see it as a self-contained fandom thing, and don’t care.
It is weird that being indirect can spread the news faster and farther, but now that information is overabundant, people don’t just want the straightforward information…they pass that over. They want something *breaking*, *exclusive*, secrets, they want to feel like they know things they aren’t supposed to know and they get more excited about that kind of thing.
So to get it so that people are buzzing about them, and furthermore what they are doing musically (rather than romantically or follically)…and for people other than the already-devoted to be seeing it in the media…that is good for them.
That is probs still convoluted. Sorry.
that makes sense to me. I have to chew on that. Because it feels kind of painful to have it come out this way, as a fan within the fandom. And runs the risk of alienating/ticking off current fans. But I understand getting outside the fandom. Does Parade magazine qualify for that?
Yes, Parade would qualify as outside fandom. The big winner here is really imom who set up the interview with Parade to promote their program and the fact that Denise is their spokesperson. That might not be mentioned in every article, but it is in the article that people are linking to.
I wrote to iMom.com to ask about how Denise got involved with them and so forth, and their response was so lame. They basically said “read the Web site” which I had already done.
They seem like a great organization – I wish they had been more open with my questions.
They are run by Family First.
Well, Parade does a little, but really the spread FROM that article is what I’m talking about. All the “in-the-know” mags I like started buzzing right away…Vulture blog @ New York Magazine (and so likely the annoying but important Gawker type blogs will pick it up)…I find that those are the media sites that the media people tend to read in order to decide what they should be writing about.
Tomorrow they’ll probs all be making little snarky comments about Denise leaking the information, and their various uninformed opinions on the balance of talent in the band…but…they’ll be talking.
MTV had about FOUR stories…PEOPLE Mag…those are also v. good, though they are more in line with E! in that they tend to cover the Jonases’ every move, anyway.
ALSO! I think it’s kind of given a jolt to the fans…I think that is not bad either. We were getting a bit complacent.
thank you very much for explaining this in detail…I appreciate it very much! So glad I have all of you to go to for this kind of information. It means a lot to me – hugs!!!
**SUPERHUGS**
Yep. As we always say, “media begets media”. Get a placement in the type of media that media types read and it spreads like wildfire.
Plus, when it’s truly music-business related, they tend to go to the mainstream media first anyways.
To me it sounded like a joke, but of course it could be true as well… Rumors have been flying around all year. I’ve always said that I’ll believe it when I hear it from Nick!
It just seems weird to me that something this big would be announced by Denise… I would imagine that the Boys – and especially Nick – would want to tell us themselves.
I love, love, love the thought of a Nick solo album, and I know it’s coming at some point… But I must say that I’m hoping that he will take a bit more time before taking that step! And I hope that it will always stay as a side project (like they have said it would).
I think that going solo might make it easier for critics and the general public to take Nick seriously as a musician and see the insane amount of talent that he has. Don’t get me wrong – I KNOW that all three boys are extremely talented musicians and I hope they never stop making music together, no matter what direction their careers take – but unfortunately there are a lot of people that can’t see past the Disney label and judge the Boys’ music and everything that they do just because they’re the Jonas Brothers, another product of the Disney factory.
I’m rambling on and on and not getting anywhere, sorry! I conclude: don’t really believe it’s going to happen quite yet, hope he will take a little more time but absolutely love and support the idea of a solo album. From any of them! Just as long as they keep making music together. Always. : )
I didn’t realize it was that long – oops!
First of all, all of the reasons I love Denise Jonas are outlined very clearly in this article. She is an amazing role model and a very loving person. I can tell just by reading how much she adores, and how proud she is of all her boys.
That being said, I have no idea what to think about this. Part of me is not at all surprised. Nick doing a solo album was kind of a given almost from the start, but at the same time, I’m kind of skeptical. They just finished filming a movie and they’re going on tour (again), how is he at the point of being at a photo shoot for an album cover already? I don’t know.
If this ends up being completely true, I would be thrilled for Nick and I would support him 100%, as would his brothers. Plus, it would also benefit the other members of the JB crew. Bulldozer would have time to work on their music, Kevin can enjoyed married life for a while, and Joe can work on his acting career. By no means do I want this to be the end of the Jonas Brothers. I think it’s safe to say that a lot of people would be crushed, and I think these boys have a lot more in store for them as a group.
I love these boys, I don’t want them going anywhere for a while!
beautifully put love.. i agree.. hard to think about them being apart.. it really hurts my heart a bit, but if I have to think about it I will.. but until I hear it from them.. I am not going there… We have way too many JB memories to make.. I look forward to every squeeing moment!!
Yes, Denise’s (um, I mean, Mrs. Jonas’!
) interview was very sweet. I love her!
I agree on everything else too.
Oh and another thing that I was thinking about… I don’t think Nick would ever want to leave the band completely. I mean, he loves being in the background every now and then. He seems to enjoy playing the drums SO much… And it seems to me like he really enjoys just playing the guitar and singing backup for Joe in certain songs (Free Fallin’ for example… sigh!).
So true.. and I think he would miss looking across the stage and miss seeing Joe & Kevin.. it just wouldn’t be the same without them.
I read that John Field (Fields?) their producer said that Nick is a “workaholic” and puts in more time on the recordings than the other boys. I think that Nick is driven to do things musically. I love watching him on JONAS and can’t wait for Camp Rock 2 because I think he has grown immensely as an actor. However, I think he feels a little uncomfortable acting. (He was quoted in TV Guide or People as saying he felt like a foreign exchange student while filming JONAS.) Joe and Kevin seem to love acting. I also think that Kevin would like to do more behind-the-scenes things such as producing music.
In the Parade interview, Denise (Mrs. Jonas!) said that she wasn’t going with them to South America. I read on some website that she was supervising the move from one house in CA to another. They rented the house they have been living in for the past year. I wonder if they bought one, or even if this is true.
if it is a joke though it is very poorly presented and badly edited in the article. She is also speaking of kevin’s wedding and her fondness for Danielle in the same paragraph.
I do love the name though!!
Side note…Lots of reassurances from the E! guy who’s been trying to break out the rumor all week…
http://twitter.com/kenbakernow/status/5216168281 – Great idea. He’s talented. Don’t worry, Jo Bros arent breaking up. RT @DakotaEagle @kenbakernow what do u think of Nick Jonas going solo?!
http://twitter.com/kenbakernow/status/4927750880 – “JB is not ending or even breaking. Just a side project between JB albums…”
I love that he points out the band is not really even getting a break. LOL.
Dang your prodigious overflow, Nick Jonas! I still sort of see/hear the majority of LVaTT as that, btw.
interesting! and that would explain why he has lead vocals on so many songs.
I would find it very hard to believe that Mama’s “leak” wasn’t carefully orchestrated. But if it wasn’t, then someone should put a muzzle on Denise, because c’mon why WOULDN’T this cause rumblings throughout the Jonasphere?
Obsessed fans (present company excepted, natch!
) worry about a new haircut, how are they not going to wonder about a new bro-less project for Nick?
In re Nick’s vocals, I hear what y’all are saying, on all sides. I happen to love his voice, but I also recognize its limitations in terms of strength and power. I feel that Nick’s voice is a “character” voice and as such needs to be carefully nurtured and carefully guided to the right projects. I will have to see what musical language this new project speaks before I form an opinion.
Hey, as it turns out, my tongue-in-cheek guess about where Nick was is right after all. Go figure, huh?
Wait, does that mean that Joe and Demi ARE in love?
BAHAHA! Why it must mean they are in love! After all, Perez confirmed it so it must be true.
I got home and to my computer after the news broke and twitter imploded. I am very excited about this! I cannot wait to hear more about it. This gives us something to enjoy and listen to while Kevin is enjoying being a newlywed and until the next album and world tour!
Uh oh – don’t go there CM…. LOL
I love all iterations of Nick’s voice.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7rrZYotgLmc
*Shivers*
I’m looking forward to it. I’ll buy it (who am I kidding) and I am sure I will enjoy it!
lol coolmom..do you have a special Jonas crystal ball??
Don’t I wish, merry! Think of the money I could make?
Update via JB MySpace & PEOPLE Magazine, yo!
Well, thanks to Molls & People.com it appears this is true, but after reading their letter I feel much better.. I never said I couldn’t Jonas & be part of the administration… as long as I get to do both I am all for it..
Wasn’t Nick working with the bros from Leeland?
I am so lame.. I have tears rolling down my face right now.. after reading the letter from the boys themselves I feel foolish for panicking and for just being ridiculous. It’s just that this ride that is the kind of fame JB has is so turbulent and SO fleeting.. things like this scare me.. because I am not ready for it to come to an end..
I am SO proud of them, proud of Nick for following his heart, & anxious to hear what he’s waiting to show us. I feel so bad for doubting them.. if anyone can make yet another coal in the already roaring fire work it is these 3 amazing young men that i love with all of my heart!!
Kev, Nick, Joe… I am SO sorry for ever doubting you… please forgive me..
Don’t worry,
It even jostled my moorings a bit – more about not knowing how long I would have to wait to see them live again than anything else (because I’m selfish like that).
I never thought it meant they were over.
I am very ecited to hear the project and wish Nick the best!
yeah..I thought it was kind of a big leap from solo project to breaking up..
but sounds like we have to wait until summer ‘10 to see them live? that gave me a bit of pause too.
not selfish though, just dedictated!
dedicated
so funny you used the word “mooring” there, cpaig!!
I think it was a VERY weird way of “breaking the news…” would love to know the story behind that all!
But anyway, so I guess Leeland is on this record! So cool – those guys are awesome. I guess it’s just Leeland though because I don’t think the other guys in the group were part of that session. So who are the other guys, if not Mike, Jack, etc.?
I knew all about their work together – should have figured it wasn’t for no reason, huh? So I wonder if the music will be Christian/country/or what??
Leeland has a new CD out now. I am not crazy about his voice but who knows what (if anything) he contributed to Nick’s project right?
That’s exciting. New music from Nick J will ALWAYS be appreciated by me. I adore him. I adore his letter. I just wish he had sent that letter to the media first. And I wish they would utilize their fan club once in a while for news like this…their PR is so endlessly frustrating to me.
New Nick J music! Possible country sound! SO TOTALLY AWESOME.
BUT! if it was purposeful, you have to give their PR people credit…
It felt like an accidental leak. That is much more exciting to the media – a scoop! – and gets a lot more traction on blogs and even legit news outlets.
It hung out there long enough to spread everywhere…and then they clarified it formally.
Now every outlet is bound to follow up with their clarification and tell the world: YES, there is a solo side project & YES BTW the Jonas Brothers are still here, working, touring with plans into late next year, producing material, and are loving and supportive brothers (their best magic).
Double the press coverage, they just got.
If it came through the fan club, we’d know it quietly, there’d be no buzz explosion…no one beyond the fandom would really care.
So it was SUPER clever. Or SUPER lucky.
I’m going with the former. I love it when synergy happens right.
I think it was planned and well done. I don’t agree with all the PR decisions made for them, but this release and the release of kevin’s engagement were well done.
There’s no doubt in my mind it was all carefully thought out. Very shrewd of their PR person. I love how they’re using Mama these days. How threatening can anything seem when their loving mother approves?
so the goal in leaking it this way was to get double publicity?
Woot!
I think they must have known that releasing it in an article in “Parade Magazine” would pretty much guarantee the superfans would get to if first.
I don’t know anything about Leland.
I love how Nick was all “We have to go to work now.” In his letter.
this must have caused a bit of a “defcon 1″ situation to make them pump out the letter right before a show.
love them.
I’m really excited. It’s fun to see him continue to grow as an artist! So curious about the sound and feel of the album. Fingers crossed for a funky album!
They boys siad it best themselves: “A three chord strand is not easily broken”, and one thing’s for sure… this three chord strand is stronger now than it’s ever been.
That will have to go in my file of favorite JB quotes.
2010 is going to be another great year in the Joansphere.
It is indeed!
I KNOW!!!!
I haven’t been this revved up and driven to neglect my other responsibilities in order to pay almost undivided attention to the Boys in quite some time.
WIN.
I love it.
We’ve already doubled the comments for the Joe-do post!
WDT are BACK!
Heehee!
Per the Wickipedia entry on Leeland:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leeland
One of the brothers is married to Michael W. Smith’s daughter, so there’s a Michael W. Smith connection. I’ll bet anything this album will be leaning to the spiritual side.
I was thinking so too!!!
That is really cool…I am personally most intrigued by Nick when he is (a) playing the drums or (b) taking a social or spiritual stand in his lyrics.
Inneresting stuff a-comin’, I suspect.
Even the way he and the bros speak of the project “songs on his heart”: that’s “churchy” talk.
TOTES.
I wouldn’t mind an album that leans a bit on the spiritual side…but hoping for funky spiritual
Jack is married to Whitney. They are expecting a baby soon! I follow those guys on Twitter and they are very cool (Leeland) and very inspiring (Jack) and a lot of fun (Mike Smith). Jake does not tweet often and I’m not familiar with Matt. I don’t know if all of them were in the studio with Nick? Jack was but was anyone else?
I asked Mike once if they were at the Ryman (even watching) in January and he said no they weren’t.
see I am learning all about Leeland here.. I knew nothing about them before
I can’t wait, I’m seriously excited about hearing his solo stuff, and I think he’s going to surprise us all. I knew he was in Tennessee, but I assumed it was because he was working with another artist, not his own stuff. Sneaky boy, again, trying to throw us off.
aww I’m naive..I like to think she was asked a question and answered it honestly but I guess the spin version makes more sense.
so exciting!! I hope I approve of the Administration
and I wish Elisa, Becky and Laura were all still awake-they’ll have a nice surprise in the morning!
we need to freak out about what Mama J said about the movie with all 4 brothers that is not a TV movie…and pray it’s not Walter the Farting Dog.
Seriously, those books are nauseating! I just don’t want the Jonas guys associated with gas, farting and terrible odor. That is what the books are all about (and then Walter performs some heroic feat in releasing lots and lots of gas at once).
I refused to read the Walter series to my kindergarten class when I was teaching! I guess that’s where “Sonny with a Chance” gets “Gassy, the Farting Dog” from.
of course my DD thought the book was funny. Both my kids have farting nicknames given to them by my DH. Fartie McFadden (DD) and Toots McGee (DS). They are definitely “of that age” where farting is hilarious.
LOL! We’ve never read them…it is too gross for me. I am not a potty-humor person.
Anyway, Joe needs to make quirky, indie-ish movies. Like directed by Sofia Coppola. I can picture it.
that was one of the first things I thought was Joe’s got to make a movie now-a cool one!
Nick’s mother said in the radio interview with the homeschooling network that she knew that Nick had written praise music. I wonder if this will be a Christian album since Joe and Kevin wrote that they are excited about the songs that were in his heart. It doesn’t matter what it is…..I’m buying it!
that would be wonderful. I would love that so much.
this might help Leeland’s CD sales too, right? The leak coming now right after their CD dropped, that’s probably purposeful…
I can’t wait to see what exactly their involvement was. And about Jordan Pruitt. And anyone else on it.
I told my DH I am going to need to see the JB 12x on tour next year … just in case I don’t get to see them together for a while after … LOL! He was fairly horrified. But I mean what I say.
Love the new – no question graphic – LOL
Thank you! Lulz.
My DH approves whole heartedly of the “& the Administration” name. It makes me laugh.
Wonder what Elvis Costello will think?
Srsly….is that subconscious, or what?!
More like an homage, probs, lol!
I know! it’s SO perfect, it sounds rhythmic and the whole President thing is awesome…
we now need a baseball style shirt styled after the EC one but for NJ & the A.
ugh. so more for getting my own work done. Jonas fandom – you are a time eater!
OMG.
First time I’ve been online ALL freakin’ day and I had a – no kidding – full fledged panic attack when I saw the headline on Yahoo. Came here immediately and am feeling much better after reading their MySpace blog. Still could use my inhaler, though…LOL!
Anyway, I’ll have to go through and read everyone’s comments. All I know right now is this makes me happy, sad, nervous and excited all at the same time.
i know I know!!!!
Holy schmoly! I’ve been sewing costmes for the last couple of days – been away from Twitter, computer, basically the media in general. Thought I’d pop in for a second before bed and shazam! Wow- I could get behind some “side” projects from the whole crew. They’re so talented & surrounded by talentd folks, it WILL be amazing, I’m sure. I’d love to hear what’s “on his heart”! I’m enthused. Now I can tell what I’m going to try to sneak computer time away from work for tomorrow!
odd phrasing though..
“on our hearts” and “on his heart”
it’s usually in the heart and on the mind, right?
not being critical just wondering about it..it’s adorably sweet of course (as usual) !!
I think it’s the family’s way of talking, kind of spiritual talk.
Nick has a way of saying stuff that you know is very significant but making it not come out as profound as it really is sometimes, but I trust its profundity anyway.
I went to sleep in slight panic mode, damn time zones

Now I feel much better. That blog was so sweet,I shed a tear.I will support Nick’s album and whatever side projects Joe and Kevin decide to do.I’m kind of glad that the official news came from Denise.Mama knows best
I’m excited to hear Nick’s songs,I wish him the best.
Just a funny comment – I’m now glad Nick didn’t wear a headband in CT. LOL because I like it on his forehead…but I’m seeing it spent a LOT of time up on his head like my little girl wears hers. And that is not a look I especially enjoy for Nick. It’s okay if he does it. Not my favorite.
there’s a lot of pressure on Nick that this CD is great. He’s really brave to be going this route right now IMO.
So this question may have been answered in the comments above by someone, but is this going to be on their Jonas label, or will it be with Hollywood Records? Is this their first baby steps away from Disney? As much as I appreciate what Disney has done for them, I think it’s time for them to go. Maybe in Jan. 2007 they signed on for 3 years with Disney and this Jan. is the end? I’m speculating here. But I have to say that being “with Disney” has done them more harm than good in the past year. Not in the beginning, but as they get older. And Disney putting any actor out there with a record deal (just saw a commercial on TV advertising Emily Osment’s new EP release at Target – seriously???) doesn’t help the boys, IMO. Yes, the Mouse House has been good to them, very, very good, but I really think it’s time to move on. At first I was hesitant about NJ & the A (I immediately thought of Elvis Costello on that one!) but I am now rather excited about it! You just can’t hold back with all the talent that kid has. And, oh my gosh, the interview with Denise (sorry, Mrs. Jonas) is unbelievably amazing. No wonder they turned out the way they did!
I think they are doing another season of JONAS so I think they will be with Disney in 2010. But perhaps after that…no more Disney? I can’t even guess. We just never know!
I would think Nick’s CD would be on Hollywood Records but again I can easily oh so easily be oh so wrong.
Mrs. J is truly amazing. and so is their dad. Amazing parents and people.
BTW…the post pic above with Nick rockin’ the headband is epic!! One of my all time faves now.
Oh absolutely! I can’t believe I forgot to mention that yesterday.
It’s always seemed pretty clear that Nick had too much music in his head to keep it confined to one outlet. We are so lucky that he is eager to share it with us!
I’m so glad that Denise is getting some recognition, and a chance to express her views – God knows parents need role models, too!
I’m SO excited now! The message is beautifully written and I’m so happy that the Boys cleared everything up.
“If I was to describe the sound to someone… I would say its “heart & soul”, because the music that I make is from my heart, and the lyrics I write are from my soul.”
Oh my goodness… That is such a beautiful thing to say. And the music is going to be amazing, because that boy has the most beautiful heart and soul in the world.
I know I said that I wish he’d wait a little bit before doing this… But now that I know that the music has already been recorded and that this won’t take anything away from the JB as a group, I’m all for it!
Early 2010, huh? I CANNOT wait!! I love every bit of new music that I can get from the JB – I love listening to the songs that they have written for Demi and HS and I love hearing Nick sing backup on some of those songs… So to get an entire album from him – wow.
I wonder if he’s going to do shows with the Administration (ha!)… I could imagine him doing something like the Ryman show, or the one at the HOB or the Roxy. Something simple. And how incredible would that be??
He’s so talented, I seriously can’t wait.
OOh, I like the idea of N & the A playing at the Ryman or HOB or something… except my guess is it’d be really hard to get tickets!
I would definitely be there.
I must admit, I am feeling much more excited about it this morning than I was last night. Between this and Bulldozer’s CD, we’ll have lots to keep us occupied until next summer! I think I am going to go the Sondra route – see them 12 times next summer, just in case! LOL!!
So what’s up with there not being another single from LVATT, I wonder?
great!
Just reread the myspace posts from Nick and from Kevin & Joe – so touching!!
Hmm….I’ve had some time to digest everything. I’m so excited
I like what mememoi said way up there about the fandom getting complacent. I certainly have! I let life get in the way of my Jonasing and it took something like this to wake me up and get me back in the groove
I think this whole thing was absolutely perfectly orchestrated. Mememoi (I think you said this) said something about had is not been Mama J leaking it where she did, it would have sent some shockwaves through the fandom and that’s about it. Perez himself made a post about it and made a HUGE deal about it on Twitter. People magazine and MTV ran tons of stuff on it. This is tons of publicity for the boys- and it’s got non fans asking questions. I like this!
Plus, new music from Bulldozer AND Nick will keep me happy until next summer when they roll out a new tour (which I will undoubtedly see many many times).
I didn’t get to comment earlier about this but OMG BULLDOZER MUSIC! WOOT!
interesting about the cord of three strands – I wonder if the JB spelled it chord to be clever, or just because they can’t spell. LOL j/k guys. I never heard of this before but it’s fascinating to me!
http://www.godsknot.com/CordOfThreeStrands.aspx
Cord of Three Strands
“Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.”
This passage from Ecclesiastes 4:12 illustrates the importance of Christian companionship. Two Christians that are bound together in Christ are stronger than the individuals themselves. We believe that Christian marriage is about more than the union of one man and one woman. The Bible teaches us that God performs a miracle in our marriage, uniting us together in a covenant relationship with Him as one. The Cord of Three Strands is a symbol of that sacred union created on your wedding day.
How can I get one?

That’s a beautiful quote and adds even more depth to their post. Amazing. And what is even more interesting is the fact that fans around the world are now quoting this bible verse (although not many may know it’s from the bible). Just a subtle reminder about their roots, I think. Knowing now where it came from, it certainly made me stop and think a bit more about them, their family and relationships. Such a good family.
Very much agree.
I love that you found this, Sondra! I wonder if it has become recently more relevant as Kevin plans his wedding, since it can be used to symbolize the relationship between the husband, the wife, and God. (My husband and I used a Unity candle at our wedding to symbolize the same thing.)
The way these boys and their family subtly remind us who they are and what matters to them is just one more reason to love them so much. I , for one, appreciate being reminded of God’s grace in small ways. They are effective missionaries.
Don’t we learn something new from the JB every day? It’s quite amazing. This is a really beautiful concept, and apparently it can be translated in a few different ways in Christianity. Judaism has special numbers too.

I was thinking about Nick’s CD today. It’s going to be so exciting to find out what genre(s) of music he is covering with this project. It seemed from the location and the people he worked with that country music and Christian music would be strong possibilities, but I also think R&B and funk are deep loves of Nick’s.
I thought perhaps the reason for the side project might be that spiritual music would be outside the reach of the Jonas Brothers’ generally secular music. And I assume that that kind of music is still important to Nick since it wasn’t that long ago that he was making that kind of music and he appears to have maintained his spiritual/religious outlook on life…but obviously I can’t assume anything…
So reaching no conclusions, I am really interested to find out what music he has been making that drew him to work with different people than his brothers and Bulldozer. He says he knew them before, and this is interesting since Leeland didn’t seem to be overly familiar with Nick when he Tweeted teh photo of them in the summer).
Nick does know Michael W Smith well. When MWS played with JB at the Ryman in January, Nick gave him a very emotional hug at the end of the performance (I took a photo since it really looked like a very special moment for Nick).
Nick played softball when he was in Nashville with MWS and his younger daughter. Leeland doesn’t live in TN but I believe MWS does. I assumed at the time MWS and Nick had some connection thru Kevin Jonas I’s Christian music background, but perhaps MWS and Nick hooked up entirely on their own.
MWS has a very fascinating life story, kind of like Keith Urban’s but MWS got his act together earlier than Keith did apparently. Very inspiring, both of them.
In conclusion LOL, I can’t wait to hear something of this music and I can’t wait to know who his collaboraters are! I am totally amped about this project.
Ditto!
Good thoughts, Sonnnn. You expressed it well. I am excited, too!
thanks! that’s so sweet.
How many more days of headband do you think there will be? Maybe if the Yankees lose tonight, he’ll decide it’s bad luck and stop doing it? LOL
I like it on the forehead. Not the way he’s doing it. what’s up gorgeous Nick?
Hmm – no intelligent guess on how long the headband will last. For some strange reason, I like it. (!) Even though the idea of it seems strange and it seems like it would look odd on most people, for some reason I’m finding it attractive on Nick. LOL. I don’t know why – maybe just because it’s Nick?!?
just because it’s Nick. I vote yes on that. I don’t really mind it either…but I could be okay with moving on from it being on top of his head LOL.
I saw on some site that Kevin Jonas Sr. is quoted as saying that Nick has recorded a new version of “Tonight” for his CD. He says that they are all excited about Nick’s album.
really??? where Jan? that’s neat. But without Joe? there’s no Tonight with Joe…or Garbo, it’s his story…
Speaking of Joseph, does anyone think he might have cut his hair now in order that it could grow longer by the time season 2 of JONAS starts filming?
I googled Nick Jonas and the Administration. It came up on some site. Sorry I can’t remember which!
I think it was on popstar.
Here’s the link, Son –
http://www.popstaronline.com/blog/entry/exclusive-nick-js-side-project-news/
and thanks Netter & mememoi!!!
Huh. I think covering a JB song for the solo album is kinda odd…and makes me feel a bit ‘meh’. But maybe that is just me? Can’t quite explain it.
I agree. It doesn’t sit well with me either.
it is odd for the reason of you NEED Joe on that one…
are they doing all the PR for this project through parental units??
It sure seems that way!
Didn’t they once do a really slow mellow version of Tonight? Maybe that’s how it will be on there?
I LOVE the mellow/ballad version!
Yay, Nashville.
I agree. This bothers me, too. If it is a Nick side project, it should be a Nick side project. I guess his brothers and Bulldozer are okay, with it. Not sure I am, but I will reserve judgment until I hear it.
Well put. I am also going to reserve judgment until I have the whole picture.
I definitely think that’s wise. We know what happens when we prejudge anything in the Jonasphere. Man, I’ve learned my lesson this week. Whew.
Gotta get the whole product/story, and then give it like 4 weeks to digest. So many things/people have FREAKED me out and they turn out to be just fine…
Oh and PS why did Papa J (or PR thru Papa J) drop that particular tidbit about the CD? Hmmmm.
I’m not sure either. I know that for me, this news caused a precipitous drop in my enthusiasm for the project…
I just don’t quite get why they would be the most enthusiastic about a part of the solo project that has the most potential to make certain fans – those who are inclined to feel iffy about the project, I am probably one of those, depending – feel the most trod upon. I actually think they mean well, and my instinct tells me it’s not that big of a deal…I am just not sure it was the best idea/calculation on their part, LOL.
But whatevs!
Here’s a thought on it – perhaps Nick had this new take on the song, and he really wanted to pursue it, and someone else sang most of the song and it just worked out to be really great, so he wanted to share it?
I have learned to expect the unexpected. This whole week in the Jonasphere has thrown me for a loop!
Oh, I don’t doubt his intentions in covering the song. But the message it sends…I’m not sure it was a great idea to play it up right after the news broke. But if they want to keep making news by winding up the fandom, they are doing a great job, I am thoroughly sucked in on a more emotional level now.
All I understand about the PR is what you have taught me LOL!
But I am very excited by the prospect of the CD. ALthough I am VERY invested that he continue (and NEVER STOP) making music with Joe and Kevin. I am certain I am going to miss Joe on this CD.
hey, and just because Papa J is excited about that song, who knows if Nick is, right? it might not even make the final cut. LOL
Maybe Papa J will put out a CD of his own, covering Nick’s cover of the Jonas Brothers’ Greg Garbo written song.
ha ha, maybe the Administration CD is a CD of “whisper songs!”
;D
Happy Friday…
LOL – good one!!!
I live in Nashville… well actually Franklin… and I’ve got troops on the ground scouting out who these Administration dudes are… I’m DYING to know. Would love if it was a Christian project… my heart may burst if it is!
hee hee, I hope you find out!
Saw a short clip of the press conference in Panama where someone asked Nick about the Administration. All he would say is that it was a side project, more would be coming out by the end of the year, and right now it was time to concentrate on Jonas Brothers stuff.
that sounds exactly like Nick. Talking points only.
does anyone believe that this Toronto radio station somehow scooped everyone and knows about Nick & the Administration’s tour? How did they get this info when Nick keeps stonewalling everyone asking him with “it’s all about Jonas Brothers right now”?
A friend of Cpaig’s said she heard the same news on the Philly station, Q102 as well.
I hope its true I suppose since I would like to see that. I’m just curious what on earth Nick has been working on.
Here’s my latest theory LOL – maybe he wanted to be sure not to hurt the “three equal parts” Jonas Brothers thing…so he made some music with other people that he could lead so to speak, but not step on his brothers toes, or even appear to the fans that he was stepping on their toes. If its separate from the JB he is more free to express individuality perhaps? and not be looked at as someone taking over the Jonas Brothers project? Does that make sense? I know even doing it this way it causes controversy but maybe that can’t be helped.
I still can’t believe he would tell anyone a scoop like that at this time…maybe it was a leak (that he either wanted or didn’t want, who knows anymore!??!).
I’m starting to feel a little like I don’t know who to trust and that really turns me off.
Yeah, I don’t know what to think either, and I understand the turned off feeling.
I can’t say I’ve ever been truly, deeply impressed with their management’s handling of certain things. Which doesn’t necessary implicate the boys themselves…they are still young. But sometimes there seems to be a thoughtless headlong rush into things that makes me worry.
I can’t help but feel there is and always has been a lot more going on behind the scenes than we can ever know. At least for now. That’s just the way things usually go.
All you can do is hope for the best.
maybe theres some ignorance or naivete involved. Or maybe theres always going to be messes when there is a large organization of people.
I just feel like the Jonasphere is giving me a lot of “agitah” (I don’t know how to spell it in Italian!) right now that I don’t need and shouldn’t be feeling.
Ignorance & naivete on the part of their management, you mean? That wouldn’t surprise me, I guess.
Yeah, there’s definitely agita. I’ve actually been reading the dramatic comments on Oceanup and some fan reactions are actually intriguing. I’d say it’s 50-50 in terms of happy vs. unhappy fans.
Personally…when I feel this way, and it’s not coming from a place of positive excitement in me, I just tend to turn things off, I just ignore them. I am def. doing that a bit with Nick J & the A…I’m really just mystified by the concept of it (as a commercialized project) and the fact that every benefit of the doubt I rationalize about it in regards to the healthy maintenance of the band seems to get upended, LOL.
I am not sure what I am supposed to be genuinely excited about, anymore.
I also use ignore and denial. And I really need to remember that right now because I’m getting sucked in. And I have my own problems so I don’t need to borrow any LOL!
I am excited about seeing what Nick has been working on but I do think it’s stressing me out. All the stuff going on is not fun for me right now. But I think that I am feeling bad about some family stuff and that is contributing and it’s all getting messed up together. I’m just so disappointed in my original family – you know…My sister hasn’t even contacted me since I got back. My niece did e-mail last night; she is SO amazing. But no one else is very amazing at all.
That is what is so sad to me.
Anyway, I always seem to get all confused and miserable at this time of the year! I hate it.
The holidays can be so hard. Just focus on the positive!!! Your niece…not to mention your lovely husband & kids. Just remember you’re still lucky, even if in some ways it doesn’t feel that way. Don’t stress about things you can’t control…don’t give them the benefit of your time and energy.
[Try to apply theory to fandom, also. I am! LOL.]
Sorry about the Phils, btw.
Back to back NL pennants is still fricken awesome though.
I am very proud of the Phillies! They won the NL East 3 years in a row and the NL pennant twice in a row. It’s great. I am certain they will be back next year, hopefully with improved pitching and a more mature Cole Hamels.
Thanks mememoi for your response.
and yes, I meant on the part of their mgt. Not that I blame them, it’s such a hard road to navigate and I’m sure no one can really do it terrifically well.
Just wanted to post to this Nick thread again.
Hope hes not too too sick, and hope 3 days are enough time to get him up and around again. It’s so sad that hes missing European fun time and that the Swiss fans are having to suffer this huge bummer.
For the SR girls going to concerts in the UK, I am sure he will be very healthy and energetic for you!
apparently Twitter has affected me to the point where I am not using apostrophes any longer. And this from an English major and a major stickler for grammatical accuracy. Not that I write correctly online anyhow. I love sentence fragments online and certainly wouldnt use those in real writing.
oooh, this is back on top. I have an excuse to post #175.
So…Nick…can’t wait to find out the elusive Administration is…
we only know: 1) there are four cabinet members and 2) all members are male.
Flailing!!!! NOT LEELAND! wow girls.
Nick Jonas & the Administration, which features former members of Prince’s New Power Generation, will release their album, Who I Am, on Feb. 2. The group will make its live debut performing a single of the same name on the Grammy Nominations Concert Live!! special Dec. 2 on CBS.
“I had written five or six songs that were on my heart, things that were just pouring out of me with this new and exciting sound,” says Jonas, 17. “They weren’t necessarily right for the Jonas Brothers, but I thought they could be perfect for something else.”
Jonas cut the album in eight days with producer John Fields, who also played bass. Additional members of the Administration include drummer Michael Bland and keyboardist Tommy Barbarella, both of whom played in the New Power Generation. Guitarist David Ryan Harris played on the album, but a third former NPG member, Sonny Thompson, will replace him for live shows.
Jonas describes the sound as “Heart & Soul.” “It’s a cross between my roots in R&B and soul with a kind of rock/pop music behind it,” he says.
“We would set up in individual booths and play simultaneously,” Jonas says. “There are very few overdubs on the record. Some songs are full live. It has a raw, late-’60s/early-’70s rock/soul sound.”
Drummer Bland calls the solo material “more rootsy” than a Jonas Brothers album. “It’s a very organic record,” he says. “We weren’t really thinking about format or whether a song was going to sound like a hit or not.”
The name of the band, as well as song titles such as The Rose Garden, Olive & An Arrow, Conspiracy Theory and State of Emergency, plays off of Jonas’ much-publicized fascination with the presidency.
World War III, from the most recent Jonas Brothers album, Lines, Vines and Trying Times, initially was intended as an Administration song. Who I Am includes a remake of the Jonas Brothers hit Tonight.
When word of the side project surfaced a few weeks ago, breakup rumors followed.
“It’s kind of funny when you hear the breakup talk and you’re gearing up to have a really busy year,” Nick says.
Both of his brothers support the project: “Nick has made such a fantastic record, and we are so proud of him,” says Kevin.
“We can’t wait to check out his live show,” adds Joe.
Nick plans an Administration tour in early 2010 before the next season of Disney Channel’s JONAS begins production. Those concerts, yet to be announced, might also include some familiar material.
“We’re going to play the record and a couple of covers, songs that we all like and want to play live,” he says.
“I’ve thought that I would play some of the songs that I’ve written for the Jonas Brothers, things that are personal to me.”
Source: USA Today
OK, how can I sleep now. I am so excited to see this show. Sounds like this tour will be happening in January…at least I thought they were filming Season 2 in February. Or am I off on that?
wow. I feel very excited for him. And for me LOL!
wanted to post the actual link
http://www.usatoday.com/life/music/news/2009-11-12-nick-jonas_N.htm
so Michael Bland plays with Ryan’s group too…and is on Paranoid and some other songs from LVATT
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Bland
http://www.michaelbland.org/home.htm
when John Taylor went off on a side project from Duran Duran and formed Power Station with Robert Palmer and Bernard Edwards/Tony Thompson of Chic, that was really exciting too. I was thinking about them this morning. I saw them perform live in Philly – with OMD opening up
I am so looking forward to everything all of you have to say about all the information we now have – band members, tour, song titles, CD title, 8 days (!) to record the CD, WWIII being originally intended for the Administration, possible covers, John Fields, all these grownups playing with our little Nick…so much to think about! I’m so proud.
So in 2 weeks, Nick recorded a CD, helped Jordan Pruitt with her music and worked with Leeland. He’s so ridiculous.
No kidding….he is amazing. And when I saw “Prince”, I just about died a little. Oh how I love Prince’s sound. I love how he explained how the album was recorded, that they played simultaneously in the booths and that some recordings are “raw” and very little overdubs. I don’t think the teenie fangirls are going to get it or like it, but I’m pretty sure I will!
yeah, it is a throwback way to do it. I am very excited about that too. I hope there will be some footage of the recording sessions available.
I wonder how Nick and these older guys get along together.
I bet Nick gets along with the older guys quite well considering he IS one on the inside! I wonder if they are as impressed with him as we are. I hope so. I can’t imagine any of them working with Nick unless they had some sort of respect for him. And I hope he plays smaller venues. I have a lot of hopes for him!!
thanks again Monica for helping me out with KC..I answered you on the other thread
I was also thinking about possible audiences for this CD – i think it could be pretty broad.
But the live shows – I think will still be mostly (all) young girls and I wonder how the “Administration” guys will react to that. I know the Horns guys get a kick out of it but not sure that all guys would react as positively.
Can you believe we’re going to see them perform in 2 weeks? And Kevin & Joe introducing them? wow, it sure is happening fast. I know for Nick it’s been a long time since he did something like this but man it’s a lot for us on the outside.
OMG, I am squeeing out loud!!! A tour?! Gosh, can’t that boy ever sit still for 5 minutes and just relax?
Wow, can’t believe this news…
And WWIII – so interesting it was intended to be an NJ&TA song. Can’t wait to hear this version of Tonight.
And what’s up with Amazon…is the album coming out on the 3rd, or just the MP3 of the first single?
The single on Dec 3 and the CD on Feb 2.
I can’t believe the turn Nick’s cd has taken..in my mind it was Leeland and country/Christian and now it’s R&B and Prince!!
Which just goes to show that we never really know what they are doing and it’s fun to guess but kind of pointless because they never stop surprising us!
I love the cd cover and the photo with the flag and the murse and the newspaper.
I can’t wait for 12/2!
And I’m ready for those concert dates..lol!
What a promising article! “Rootsy,” “Prince,” “R&B and soul,” “organic,” and “live” are all words that are sounding very sexy. I’m actually looking forward to the album a bit more now than I was before. Methinks Nick Jonas & the Administration is going to be Fantastic.
Scary/amusing Nick thought of the day: I hope he doesn’t wear a navy blue suit and a red power tie onstage.
Mememoi, USA Today seems like a really good place to put this article, doesn’t it? Were you surprised at all the details in it?
Yep, that’s a good outlet. There was definitely a lot of intriguing info in there!
Popping in to say that I am still pretty iffy about this whole Nick solo project thing. I know that I am being incredibly stubborn about it, but I have not been able to get myself really geared up for it.
I don’t think I will ever get over feeling like this side project was somewhat premature, even if the album turns out to be amazing. That said, the kid is only 17 and he is playing with some pretty big musical heavy-weights so major props to him.
I already commented on my lack of faith in Nick’s voice, however that clip just makes me more nervous for that. I know they are going for raw, stripped down or whatever, but it sounded to me like Nick was really straining his voice.
I am coming around to understanding the need for Nick to stretch his creative wings or whatever (although I still believe that Nick has complete creative control in the band and his brothers would let me do whatever the hell he wanted), so I’m hope, hope, hoping that the Administration record will be a completely new sound away from the JB, although the clip didn’t give me that impression. But then again, I really can’t judge anything on a 30 sec clip. I will just be extremely disappointed if the new record sounds like it could be a JB record if you only were to throw Joe in on some vocals. Because then I will really feel like “Well, what was the point then?” You guys talked about it above, but I’m still scratching my head over the news that a remake of Tonight made the album.
Way to being the negativity, Mae. Let’s move to some positives.
I do like that David Ryan Harris was involved. He has a gorgeous voice. He provides wonderful backing vocals for John Mayer so hopefully his voice made Nick’s record in some form.
I also do love that Kevin and Joe will be introducing the band at the Grammy’s special. I appreciate their unfailing support of Nick with all of this. Despite my hesitation about the project, I do feel like his brothers are genuinely proud and supportive of Nick which makes me want to try and open my mind a little bit more to all of this.
Mae I am nervous about his voice too..he starts out strong with the “who I am” and then goes into that slightly higher voice that I agree sounds like he’s straining a bit..I just wish he’d sing in a lower register (if that’s what it’s called).
Of course it’s only 30 seconds..and it does sound like a great song..so maybe when we hear the whole thing we can relax a bit.
I do have a lot of confidence in his song writing ability and I love that there are some pretty solid musicians on this project.
I am thrilled about the Grammy performance! It’s such a nice surprise and a great way to really get a feel for the whole project
also I don’t mind about him being 17..I actually think the timing is great, especially if the JBs are not going to record a CD this year.
It’s pretty clear he’s got a lot of music in him and he wants to share it which is kind of awesome
I am really looking forward to the tour too and hoping that the venues are small..and that Joe and Kevin are there to introduce him and grrove along with Bulldozer in the audience..not too much to ask!
We don’t know for sure about the NickJ tour, but if it is in January, that makes sense because they will probably have that month to themselves. Kevin might take a honeymoon and Joe might travel…Nick likes to make music. Its his career and his hobby…he doesn’t take breaks from it.
He’d run Bulldozer and his brothers ragged if they had to do everything music related with him. And they want to do other things and need that time. So really he’s got to write and perform sometimes with other musicians, just to give his friends and brothers a break.
I’m thinking with February designated for JONAS (and maybe longer – last season they worked on it for 4 months but that was also working on LVATT) – Nick figures he’ll do his solo project now. It makes sense they would have another “vacation period” through the last 2 weeks of December/January.
We have a lot to look forward to in seeing what Kevin and Joe will be spending their time on! Should be fun!
Nick’s never paid any attention to his age anyhow.
oh yeah..they will all be busy while Nick tours around..but that’s my concert fantasy and I’m sticking to it
Do remember in the original blog post about the solo project that Nick mentioned that he worked with the musicians who make up the Administration before? I wonder when that happened?
And the fact that, as you said, the musicians who make up the Administration seem pretty solid, should comfort me. They are obviously confident in Nick’s ability, and have no problem so closely collaborating and attaching their name to his work.
I just keep thinking about how cheesy it is that a number (hopefully not all) of the song titles have Presidential themed titles. Even if they have nothing to do with the Presidency.
I would love to see Kevin and Joe be surprise guests at a show or two. Probably not likely, but like you, I’m holding on to that fantasy
I get that Nick releasing a solo project makes sense in terms of timing. Not only does it help satisfy fans in the lapse of a JB album, but it lets Joe act and Kevin be married. I get that if Nick didn’t have an album or some other music project to work on, he would probably drive himself up a wall. But I still think it’s premature. It’s like ‘Buddy, wait a few years till a lot of the hype surrounding JB dies down a bit and then try to reinvent yourself.’ I just can’t imagine Nick attracting any new fans at this point in time that aren’t already JB fans.
He did say Kevin and Joe would be at some shows, so that seems very likely to me.
It is kind of funny – the whole Presidency thing – the flag, the newspaper, the song titles, the name of the band – heck, the bumper sticker! Nick is sometimes so serious he comes off hilarious. The headband is hilarious, and the Bounce hat. He’s pretty ridiculous in a lot of ways really. Just part of being NickJ. I laugh at him sometimes.
Michael Bland (see my links above) played on LVATT and knows Ryan so that’s how he came into the fold I suppose. Not sure how Nick or anyone knows the other guys, would love to know. That is something I’m really looking forward to hearing more about, how they came together to do this. Now that we know who they are, there’s a lot of “why?” I would love answers to.
Maybe from a marketing point of view Nick should have different timing but I take it at face value what he said, that these songs were important to him and he wants people to hear them. I don’t think he’s reinventing himself, just doing more of himself, does that make sense? It’s just more of what he’s always doing.
I put the question up above about the potential audience for this project – I really don’t know. I do think if it goes well and their sound is strong and solid, it will really help the Jonas Brothers improve their reputation among the “grownups.” (LOL) Since Nick is going to be touring with older guys, I think this will lend to his credibility and in an extension of that lend to the Jonas Brothers’ cred. We, the superfans, already know how talented they are and that great musicians work with them, but perhaps this project might get that word out to a different audience.
Like Mememoi explained about getting PR out to different types of sources. This is kind of helping to do that. I think it will end up being very positive for the Jonas Brothers’ career which I pray is REALLY REALLY long.
I hope they have a 40th anniversary like Aerosmith does!
Well…I do have to say that I have a bit of a rant against their management & PR tack on this.
Part of my problem with the USAToday PR is that, yes it reaches out to maybe a more mainstream/grown-up audience, but my concern is that there is a tone in it that is backhanding the “Jonas Brothers” brand (it’s less organic, it’s about making hits….things I don’t agree with about them) in order to benefit the Nick J & the Administration brand. That does bother me…I think it’s a bad precedent and a bad sign.
And I see Mae’s point on the timing. I know this is a side project and Nick has a deep need to make music, and I’m sure that is genuine. BUT I think there is a difference between making music out of love, experimenting and jamming with different groups nonstop to keep learning – like many musicians do constantly – and making it into a full-blown commercial venture…there is no way for a monetized project like this not to draw PR energy away from the main project, or cause strain, when the things are happening concurrently.
I guess in part I am still mystified that their management has developed a pattern of leaping on to the next thing without properly following through on a previous worthy project to see what can really be made of it. It seems out of touch. In addition to an aging youth fanbase that needs to be maintained, there is definitely an underdeveloped fringe to the Jonas Brothers fanbase which could help with their growth and credibility, and I don’t think a Nick solo album is necessarily the best approach to cultivate that fringe.
They could have gotten more singles and time out of “A Little Bit Longer” (some artists tour a single album for 18 months plus!) before LVATT came out. And similarly I feel like LVATT is being allowed to fade from public/nonfan consciousness in order to make room to promote this new commercial project.
I just think it’s misguided. But this is totally my largely uninformed opinion/instinct. I just don’t get their management’s POV! LOL
I absolutely agree with your questions here. I don’t understand not going further with LVATT either…weird! And I think it’s strange to put Nick J & Jonas Brothers kind of in competition with each other but I guess it can’t be helped, other than for Nick J not to release the CD at all. I can’t figure out a solution there since I suppose he wants people to hear it and hear it now while it’s relevant to him, but yeah, it just invites comparison (monetarily, ratings, and otherwise) between that and JB which is not productive.
Wouldn’t it be amazing to sit with Johnny wright and ask him some of our questions? I wonder if he would take an interview with you, mememoi and cpaig? You are great thinkers and run a JB blog and I think that would be so enlightening for us here who just run in circles with these questions we have.
They are always doing stuff so fast. I wonder if they (the management, who is thinking of profits) are so afraid of losing their teenie audience that they want to get so much stuff out there. It’s kind of what Robert Schwartzman was telling us about, what record companies do to artists and to records. They rush them.
JB always seem happy enough with the mgt but maybe they’re not completely thrilled either.
Yeah, oh man, it would be awesome to talk to Johnny if I thought it would result in candid responses!
like off the record. Just so we would know.
I guess to clarify my thinking up there…maybe I just don’t think
theyhe should be releasing an album.I think there are ways to approach sharing the music that aren’t as formal, commercial and divisive. Unless there is something controversial/political/religious lyrically that doesn’t fit with the decidedly neutral stance of the JB brand, I don’t see why they couldn’t have quietly brought this music to their audience less brazenly independent of the band. There is a vanity about this approach that doesn’t sit well with me, I guess.
Why not do a mini tour of mid-size club/opera houses – as the Jonas Brothers – with that laidback/experimental/learning-lab vibe of the Ryman and the LA HOB shows, and let Nick get these songs out, solo style with his guesting buddies, in THAT environment?
It’s not like NOT putting out an official album keeps the music away from the people who are interested in it. Fans all over the world know their songs word for word the minute they are performed live…even months and months before they are released.
So I guess my main negative reactions to the project come from a sense of vanity and prematurity & profiteering.
It’s playing with fire…if it is wildly successful, it is likely to tarnish the JB brand as inferior; if it is badly received…I worry the same thing could still happen.
I am just still having a hard time seeing it as anything but a potential lose-lose. So I am holding my breath a bit.
[I know if I was a stronger/better Nick-supporter I might see it differently...but...I am what I am!]
Do you think though that Kevin & Joe maybe don’t want to do this with him? Or bulldozer? Like they want time to do their own thing instead? They probably don’t want to learn these songs & maybe they wereNt written in the Jonas 3 guitar/2 lead voices manner? Or maybe nicks feeling is that this music might have a different audience than jbs? I don’t know that it will but I’m trying to get inside their heads. I think well get some insight when Nick starts talking about details. Then maybe some of this will be easier to understand. I hope!
I don’t know, either.
I will probably feel much better once I see in-person interviews with the whole group that inspire that sort of confidence, and don’t feel canned.
Quotes on paper can feel very canned, to me.
As long as everybody is and has been happy about the hand they’re being played, I guess I am in no place to argue!
Have they been talking at all about the solo project in European interviews, BTW? I haven’t had time to watch hardly any!
He’s brushed off most of the questions, saying he’ll talk about it when he gets back here in December. That what they are doing now is all about the Jonas Brothers. That’s why I couldn’t believe the song leaked. Must have been an Amazon mistake and not a planned PR thing. It didn’t jive with what he was saying over in Europe.
as usual you bring a thoughtful and interesting perspective mememoi!
I agree that they make some head scratching decisions and maybe this will turn out to be one of them.
I’m not sure what will happen with Nick’s cd..it seems to have already divided the fans. And I worry that it might not be a critical success and then people might view it as a vanity project. I remember one headline that said “Something else for your 13 year old sister to spend money on” which is nothing out of the ordinary when people write about the JBs but I hope that it’s not reduced to that.
LOL! I worry a lot
I need to be clear though that I am looking forward to it very much..and it’s fun to hear what everyone thinks!
Oh I published another rambling screed before I saw this note. LOL. Thanks, Mar.
It is always the most fun to discuss the parts of it all that I don’t quite understand.
actually you tapped into one of my other worries (I said I worry a lot!)..that it’s being done now for commercial reasons- to take advantage of the built in fan base. Because even if it is not well recieved it will still sell lots of copies.
Of course that is nothing new or different for the music world.
I guess it just feels like there’s a lot riding on it because we care about our JBs so much!
I don’t think artists make a lot of $ on CDs nowadays. A lot of kids steal the music online so album sales are not what they were. ESP with this fan base who don’t have lots of $$, it’s tempting to take the music. I don’t think there’s a lot of cash to be earned with this. I don’t expect sales to be that good. I hope I don’t sound like Debby downer now lol!
Artists don’t make a lot of money off CDs, but labels do. Is this a Jonas Records venture? That will be interesting to parse out.
I would think there might be at least a secret hope to tap into the secret formula that marries tween/family interest with adult/contemporary interest which = kaboom. That’s something Taylor Swift has managed brilliantly (not so coincidentally with marketing that portrays her basically as a credible young pseudo-indie artist free of the chains of corporate baggage…like a Disney label).
Another vote for why make a formal recording…could be a Grammy eligibility thing? You have to record and release to be considered. I have done no research on this idea, just throwing it out there.
the Web site for NJA is registered to the Jonas Group. As of June this year.
I see Nick as a person who is very interested in communicating with the outside world. He thinks he has a message that he is supposed to be carrying to the world. I see music as his way of being a pastor kind of person, but not with a given religion, but with a positive message. I think he feels responsible to get this message out there. I see all of his projects as his way of doing that. If he had stayed within the Christian music world/church world, he would be giving sermons, preaching to kids, that kind of thing. I think he makes music in order to get a message to everyone. I think that is what his fascination with the Presidency is about as well. A way of bringing his light to the world like he believes he’s supposed to be doing. He uses everything he has to do that. Even when he was so sick/almost dying from diabetes, one of his first thoughts was how can he use this to speak to/help others. That is an unusual way to look at something that devastating, esp for a young kid. His brain just seems to work that way. When he saw homeless people in NYC on his way to his Broadway performance, he asked his dad how do we help and they started the foundation based on that idea. It makes me feel in awe of him, and his parents, that he has those thoughts and motivations.
I think some of the musicians from The Admin recorded with the boys on LVATT, which could be where they worked with them before. Have to go check liner notes, though.
One of the NPG guys also apparently helped in a producer role to get them signed to Hollywood Records after IAT failed.
No, I had it wrong…it was a member of Prince’s former management team – Bob Cavallo – who helped save them from post-SONY label-lessness.
Still, an overlap!
No need to feel bad, Mae, I agree with just about every single thing you just said!
Hehe thanks! I had second thoughts about posting it as I didn’t want to pop up only to be the Debbie Downer of the group.
My take on the clip: what Nick does with his voice, he intends it as emotionality. He’s showing passion by doing that. He does sound awesome when he sings deep and sexy – I like it a lot and was happy with how he sounds on a lot of LVATT – but I do enjoy the raw emotionality too. I believe it’s intentional.
I agree. I think he has quite a bit of control of his voice and he changes it up for the emotion he wants to convey and for the sound he’s going for with a particular track. Also – he’s 17 (!6 when he recorded this album) and his voice is still changing and developing. So, I imagine he’s still playing around a it with all the nuances of the changing sound.
I totally understand that he is trying to convey a raw emotion through his voice and he is definitely conveying that well with the notes (?) he is going after in that clip. But it almost sounds physically painful to me. All I hear is the strain. Like the line “when your gone.” Ouch.
He did a similar thing with his voice on ‘Sorry.’ (Did JB ever sing ‘Sorry’ live by the way?)
Obviously I could be very wrong about the range of his voice, but it just doesn’t seem healthy to take his voice to that point every single night on a tour.
It’s a shame that he gives people the feeling that he is hurting himself. I personally don’t hear it that way – I only hear the intensity which really gets to me in a good way (for example Can’t Have You) but I am aware a lot of people react to his sound like that.
I agree with Netter that his voice is still cracking and changing – he seems to be experiencing the change from boy to man right now – and it probably isn’t settled down yet. But I don’t think it’s going to sound (that) much different when he’s done growing…
At least everyone likes Joe’s sound. And those who like Nick and Joe really have it good.
They never sang ‘Sorry’ live, that I know of…I could be wrong. And I do think the strain – along with the factors of puberty, colds, etc – has taken some of a toll on his voice.
I think Nick does some absolutely beautiful things on the records…that I feel he does not really pull off live. Oddly, I feel Joe can be plagued by the opposite for whatever reason, LOL. I have no idea what that means, other than that I cannot deny that I find the brothers (all three) to be perfect, needed complements and balances for each other.
that’s sweet. I agree – they are perfect together. Really perfect.
I think Joe sounds lovely all the time. Sometimes the falsetto/high notes make me question why, but I go along with it LOL. I’m such a cheap date!
Anyway, mememoi you like Joe better live than recorded? (well of course – but I’m talking about his voice)
Yeah…for myself – I think Joe sounds totally fine/good on records (like I think Nick mostly sounds fine/good live) but I tend to think Joe has a more visceral approach to performing that results in him being at his vocal/charismatic best when he’s pumped up by audience energy…then magical things happen.
I think Nick’s strength is more technical/calculated…that mostly works for me on records but not so much in person (for some reason, I just love Nick the very best when he’s drumming…I think it brings the most genuine passion out of him).
Of course there are moments which are exceptions to these personal “rules”.
there are a few YouTubes of Sorry Live up.
Heres one thats not too awful to watch/listen to:
Y’all know how much I love JB, but does anyone else think that both Joe and Nick are off key/out of tune in this piece? Almost the whole time? It’s a bit painful to listen to. What do y’all think?
Yeah…oof…LOL.
YouTube can play tricks in degrading sound sometimes but um…I wouldn’t blame that in this case, across the board. Joe has a couple OK moments (hehe, I WOULD say that)…but it’s just too mired in general discord. Bad notes, voice breaks, disastrous harmony and so forth.
I can see why they dropped it from the setlist.
I think you’ve been vindicated in your point, Mae!
OK ladies…now I’m a “little” worried about this project. You all make excellent points. I just really hope that the media gives him a chance, because if they have their usual slant on this venture, I don’t think it will do well. There are so many assumptions out there about the boys because people don’t take the blinders off and actually listen to their music. They are up against their image. I am not impressed with commercial success too much and I really don’t think JB (especially Nick) is either anymore. He is going to do what he wants to do and make no apologies for it and that is why I love him/them. And it does seem sometimes like management is rushing them/him to sell, sell, sell now while they are “hot” and that is unfortunate. I don’t know…I’m rambling here and it’s late. Love hearing all your thoughts on this. Having said all this, I really can’t wait to hear Nick’s CD!
So many good thoughts. I worry, some, too. Try not to think about my worries. (!) One of the main reasons I fell in love with JB was because of their family bond and their humor. Having just one brother at a time seems a bit sad and lonely to me, even if I do love Nick. At least that’s how I feel right now. Maybe it’s because I’m a Joegirl at heart.
I do love Nick and the clip of the new song sounds great, but I share many of your concerns mentioned above. I’m taking a “wait and see” attitude, because I can’t really do anything about the situation anyway. (If only we could get that interview with their management….
). I see the situation the way I see many things in life.. there will be good (ie Nick’s singing, the music, possibility of reaching a broader audience) and there might be bad (comparisons to/detractions from JB…). I guess my attitude is “that’s life”. I love JB, but there are haters on youtube and other websites who are utterly mean. I don’t like that either, but that’s life. Some people don’t take them seriously because of Disney or because of the purity rings (etc), I hate that, too, but that’s life. Obviously I wish the best for them, but it won’t stop the critics. I think JB are somewhat OK with that. They may not like it, they may try and want to change it, but they realize that there will be critics and they’re just going to keep doing what they love as long as they can.
So…Here’s to a management who doesn’t screw everything up and to JB being around in 40 years!
Trying to wait patiently and not worry….
Amen and well-put!!!
hey, on another topic since we covered this one fairly extensively – what do you all think of the Jonas Brothers Web site redo? It looks like Facebook, don’t you think? It’s kind of a lot to look at, still. Plus there’s still some old msgs on there that need to go. And a lot of sections that need updating. I wish I could work on it for them!
Super interesting convo ladies! I have my own misgivings about Nick’s solo project, almost all of which you have touched on here.
I have to believe that all the decisions about releasing CDs vis-s-vis touring to bring the music to the people are made on the bottom line–that is it’s ALWAYS a questions of money. If that makes me cynical, so be it. I don’t question Nick’s genuine creative drive as an artist, but that is almost NEVER the motivation of management/labels.
And in general, that is a problem I ultimately have with almost every JB project. It appears that the goal is to wring more dollars out and present “what the fans want” instead of growing and teaching and attracting new fans. There never appears to be any consideration for longevity–but rather only ridin’ that gravy train while its running!
Let’s review: The 3D Concert movie, ALBL, LVATT. All could/should have been handled with more care and less rushing. Big missed opportunities in all three for more growth and credibility. IMO, lol!
