Joe was in charge!

Happy Day, Revelers! A JONAS Episode not centered around Joe and Stella! We were pretty stoked about that at my house, I’ll tell you.  Add to that bran muffins shaped like Kevin’s head, and you have the makings of a wonderful Sunday night.

Jump with me, all you JONAS-heads!

Well clearly, the boys can’t be trusted on their own because chaos ensues.  I mean they made smoothies before dinner?  What were they thinking?  However, they might want to get that little kitchen wiring issue looked at.  Just sayin’…

HomeAlonePost3

I found tonight’s episode to be great fun.  I enjoyed getting to see Mom again, even if her urgent need for a vacation was a bit puzzling, since if memory serves she’s already been out of town in several other episodes, hasn’t she?  But why quibble about details, I loved the Mom-and-Dad-Are-Out-Of-Town hijinks that the boys got up to.

HomeAlonePost2

In addition, I loved the JONAS-heads, and thought the episode did a great job of poking loving fun at Jonas Brothers fans and their obsessions.  Not that anyone here is guilty of that sort of behavior.  Now if you’ll all excuse me, I need to go find a Lucite block to encase the signed copy of LVaTT that I just won on eBay.

HomeAlonePost4

But what about you Revelers?  Which were your favorite moments during tonight’s show, and which Jonas Brother would you like to give you a foot massage?

    Duh, easy, JOE! :)

Especially in his khakis and sport jacket outfit up top there – totally adorbs even though I never liked that haircut and it still has yet to win me over.

Has anyone seen this DVD review? It mentions commentary! Am I just slow on the uptake that this is news to me?

that’s a nice write up. I think in some episodes they over do the uptight Nick, but last night was perfect.

    • on September 20, 2009 at 11:23 pm coolmom823

While that would be incredibly exciting, might he be referring to all the off-screen commentary the guys gave during the episode when videos were playing?

When they were teasing each other while watching the vids?

But, if there was actual commentary from JB that would be primo, of course!

      • on September 20, 2009 at 11:39 pm Sonnnn

I agree that I think they are talking about the adlib jokes. But what the reviewer said about Joe is very nice (and Kevin). Not so much Nick. I don’t think his acting is stiff. I don’t know why critics mention that. ???

        • on September 21, 2009 at 7:31 pm Jan

People Magazine thought that Nick came off the best by underplaying and being deadpan. I guess each reviewer is entitled to his own opinion.

      • on September 20, 2009 at 11:54 pm mememoi

Ah, I guess that makes better sense…darn! I’ve never owned a Disney series DVD…do they usually have decent extras?

        • on September 20, 2009 at 11:57 pm Sonnnn

not really. They are usually very skimpy. but…two new episodes is so great. And there probably will be one “behind the scenes” kind of piece that makes up for not having a lot of quantity.

They could do SO much more though. I have no idea why they don’t. I guess because they are not marketed to adults who appreciate all the content, like on a Heroes DVD.

What I am always wondering is why they don’t put out their videos on a DVD collection, or more concerts. In the 80s we used to get a lot more concert releases than musicians do now. I really want more live material.

    • on September 20, 2009 at 11:37 pm Sonnnn

oh, commentary! MY FAVORITE THING! WOuld love that!

I like Joe’s short smooth haircut. I think it’s a little bit odd-looking because it’s a bit womanly/girly or something since it’s so “done” and it makes him look a little fragile compared to how he looks with other haircuts. But I got used to it after a while. I think I am just a sucker for his shiny shiny black hair. I can’t believe it’s really that color. I wish my hair were that color, and that shiny.

      • on September 21, 2009 at 7:34 am merry27

Joe’s old hair was so good in concert though!
I agree about the shiny black hair.
I like his natural hair better now,to the point where his straight hair looks odd.
and I can only imagine the effort it must have takedn for him to get it so straight.

        • on September 21, 2009 at 8:29 am Sonnnn

The only thing is I still prefer seeing more of his face, having the hair pushed off to the side rather than all thick bangs across his forehead. I wish he had kept it longer in front and just let it go wavy. But it’s not that big of a deal. LOL!

  2. on September 20, 2009 at 11:36 pm Sonnnn

I have so many thoughts on this episode!! I totally enjoyed it from start to finish.

First off, you’ve got to read the note in Macy’s locker. The one in Spanish. That is so funny!

What else did I love? I love how Frankie is so under the radar in this family. The parents never even mention him when they leave on vacation. so ridic. And the guys never blame the party on him.

I love the food the mom left in the fridge!

(ooh I just noticed my store on the Friend Blog. That’s so cool!)

OK, let’s see. I love love love all the little details like the books on the family’s shelf near the CD changer; they’re like text books. And the photos of the real Jonas children – the one of all three of them, and Nick on the bongos, and the one at the beach…

I love how the photos of Stella and Macy changed expressions as the episode went on – the ones in the JONAS fan club meeting room.

I love how there is one guy in the fan club. I love how Macy talks about how Jonas fans are a special kind of crazy and Stella says they are weird but harmless.

Kevin was great as usual – the shock and almost disgust that someone wants to clean the bathroom with him. LOL Nick in the chef’s hat again with the enormous meatloaf.

Kevin with all that ice cream around him. Joe talking about being hte middle child. The last scene – Kevin’s braid equipment and his hat!, and Nick’s entire outfit, and Joe carrying a tray of drinks. And Frankie in pink waving the palm frond.

I love the red used in teh firehouse. I love the parents’ matching tropical shirts. I love the details on the computer screen during the video chats. I love Kevin pausing the plane and Nick explaining the difference between the computer and real life.

The JONAS crew member, pretty funny!

And yes, the Halloween episode looks so good. Next week I am so excited for new, but I am worried that Stella’s b-day is too close to Stella’s friendaversary. LOL I realized something though. It’s the same on Sonny w/a Chance. Every episode is about Sonny & Chad “not” getting together and “not” liking each other. Same thing over and over. SO that made me feel a tiny bit better about the repetitious Joe/Stella plotline deal on JONAS.

Kevin’s guitar-shaped pancakes are featured in the “ESsential Guide” book I bought. And Poor Nick! with the soapy dishwater in his Krunchy Kats. That made me sad! Joe’s breakfast just made me feel a little nauseous. :D

I love the blazers as usual. Blazers for the win.

One last thing – Rebecca Creskoff was on the Hannah Montana episode at 7:30 as teh school nurse. Also the episode was about Oliver getting Type 1 Diabetes. The kids did an “after-school special” treatment at the end, speaking directly to the audience. That was SO unusual, the whole use of diabetes and the speech at the end! Did anyone see it?

  3. on September 20, 2009 at 11:43 pm Sonnnn

PS I also liked the cameo of the HMA custodian in one of the scenes. This show is so amazing!!! with the detailed attention paid to EVERYTHING. It’s so real. I am so impressed. I want to talk for hours & hours with the set designers!

  4. on September 20, 2009 at 11:57 pm Sonnnn

I wanted to mention for anyone who doesn’t want to purchase the DVD on Tuesday – you will be able to rent it at your library in the Kids Section at some point… ;-)

  5. on September 21, 2009 at 1:36 am Trish

Can’t wait for the DVD! Although it will have to wait a week until I get paid…

Like all the others, I adored this episode, but I probably didn’t LOL as much I have for other ones.

Kevin pausing the plane was so adorable! And the look he gave Nick when their mom said they had an unexpected delay! I was howling!!! Joe being a little freaked out at the fans was funny – I’m sure that’s the case IRL, too! ;) The JonasHeads….too funny! Oh yeah, I’d be more than happy to pick up their potato chip crumbs. Where’s Elisa? – I need her recap to remind me of all the other fab moments I forgot!

Sondra, you are right – Mom has been out of town more than she has been IN town, so that was weird. Then again, I’m sure their target demographic didn’t even pick up on that! LOL

  6. on September 21, 2009 at 7:23 am merry27

This one really had us laughing..
Of course you have all captured the best moments. I think I like the episodes best when they are all 3 given equal, funny parts.

Loved Nick and his 15 lb meatloaf.

also when Kevin said “Let them die..” when they were talking about the vegetables.

and when Joe said something like “Stop before someone calls someone a goofball and we all regret it”

    • on September 21, 2009 at 8:32 am Sonnnn

ha ha I thought Nick said “50 lb meatloaf!” 15 makes much more sense.

Nicole Anderson was incredible in this one too.

I think this might be my favorite episode!

Merry, I agree about the “name calling” “fight.” that was hilarious. Such innocence. :)

    • on September 22, 2009 at 9:40 am Barbara

I rewatched the episode last night, and I thought Nick said “50 lb. meatloaf.” Then I rewound and watched it again with closed captioning, and they had it written as “50 lb meatloaf.” Whether it really was 50 lbs or not… that’s what he said. :)

  7. on September 21, 2009 at 8:32 am Sonnnn

and…as if they all weren’t really goofballs! LOL!

  8. on September 21, 2009 at 10:01 am sharpld

I would request Kevin for the foot massage, please. Duh, right? But, I have a practical reason, too: guitar-player’s hands.

This was a cute episode, but like Trish, I didn’t LOL as much. The one true rib-tickler came when the boys closed the laptop and Kevin freaked out “Dad can’t breathe!” DD and I both laughed.

I have not taken a shine to the Mom. I know the characters are supposed to be exaggerated, but she is just too much.

I have to give props to Frankie for this episode. He isn’t around often, but when he is, he is such a schemer, I love seeing what he will come up with next.

You ladies have done a wonderful job of capturing all of the best moments. I am proud to be a Jonas-head alongside all of you.

    • on September 21, 2009 at 1:31 pm Trish

“Dad can’t breathe!” That was hysterical!!!!!

    • on September 21, 2009 at 2:52 pm Sonnnn

I didnt care for the Jonas mom until I saw how good she is on Hung. Now I laugh over the disparity between those two roles. It amuses me and my DH!

  9. on September 21, 2009 at 10:06 am mollyanne

I loved loved loved this episode. You know I love Joe, so I don’t complain when an episode is Joe-centric, but this was so refreshing. The name-calling had me howling, and I loved the Jonas-heads. Oh shoot where is Elisa to recap the episode for us? :) LOL!

  10. on September 21, 2009 at 10:20 am mollyanne

I forgot to mention that Kevin absolutely cracked me up with his reaction to the fridge breaking. Something along the lines of saving the ice cream first?! And letting the veggies die, and of course him surrounded by all of the sweets.

Also loved him and Nick fighting over who was in charge throughout the whole episode. Joe didn’t even try to get in on that which I thought was funny.

    • on September 21, 2009 at 11:20 am coolmom823

And wasn’t it great how even though Nick and Kevin had been fighting to be in charge, when Mom & Dad came back and the fridge blew up they both threw Joe under the bus in a heartbeat? “Joe was in charge!” :D

      • on September 21, 2009 at 3:05 pm mollyanne

YES! So funny :) Poor Joe.

  11. on September 21, 2009 at 1:32 pm Trish

Another thing I love about this show: IKEA. There are so many IKEA items in their home. My DD and I are IKEA addicts and can pick out all sorts of things… :)

    • on September 21, 2009 at 2:53 pm Sonnnn

      oh really? tell me more!

      • on September 22, 2009 at 6:55 am Sonnnn

the only things I’ve recognized are their remote controls – we have the same ones.

    • on September 21, 2009 at 10:05 pm merry27

that check sofa is from Ikea right?? I love that!

  12. on September 21, 2009 at 6:30 pm Barbara

So much goodness. Enjoyed seeing all 3 being the focus for a change (even though I’ve never complained about a Joe-centric episode, or certainly also not a Kevin or Nick-centric episode. :) )

Favorite moments (most of which have been mentioned already):

Parents leaving for vacation and Joe is about to get all excited, and Nick says, “wait for it”. Dad comes back in. Then when they finally leave, Joe gets to dance around.

Joe: We have the place to ourselves. Let’s do something crazy, like brush without flossing. Or floss without brushing. Or better yet, run with scissors. No. Too dangerous. Run without scissors.
    Nick: Talk without breathing.
    (And Joe running around excitedly.)

Kevin: All work and no play makes something, something something.

Nick: (referring to smoothies): I’d like mine with extra whipped cream.
Joe: Whoa, Nick, Nick. Let’s not get crazy.
Nick: You’re right. Lost my head there a minute. Sorry.
(I think this was my favorite!)

Joe (?): What about the vegetables?
Kevin: Let ‘em die. It’ll be the perfect crime.

The arguing between Nick & Kevin about who’s in charge.

Kevin: As the oldest brother and the one in charge, I say no party.
Nick: As the smartest brother and the one in charge, I say no party.
Joe, as the middle brother… OK, I don’t have anything.

During chat with dad, where Joe puts up JONAS sign and sings –
Dad: Nick, do I really need to tell you how ridiculous that was.
    Nick: No, I’m fully aware.

Joe: There’s not enough time! There’s not enough time! There’s not enough time!
    Seriously. There’s not enough time.

The whole plane/pause conversation with Nick and Kevin.

All in all, another delightful episode that I’ll be glad to rewatch. (I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve watched each episode. Most I’ve watched at least 3-5 times. All of them I’ve watched twice.)

  13. on September 21, 2009 at 7:31 pm Sonnnn

Barbara, yes yes and yes! Everything – ditto!

  14. on September 21, 2009 at 7:37 pm Jan

I loved when Nick and Kevin both said: Joe was in charge! when the refrigerator burned out again. I also like the last scene where Nick is playing the steel drum, Joe is serving drinks, Frankie is waving the palm frond, and Kevin offers to braid Mom’s hair. And Nick’s line: Why can’t you just ground us like normal parents?

  15. on September 21, 2009 at 11:22 pm Barbara

Also love Nick’s high fives after his parents agree to go on the trip. :)

  16. on September 22, 2009 at 12:08 pm Sonnnn

we are going to need a whole new thread for the DVD! OMJ ladies – it’s awesome. The 2 new episodes – I laughed all by myself during both of them…I couldn’t even fold that much laundry because I couldn’t look away from the screen to pick up something and fold it…

The JoBro’d thing was hilarious too. Nick! He acted! It was great. Joe smiled so big – I love that big smile he has.

These are the best boys ever (besides my boy of course). They are completely and totally lovable. Really great DVD.

  17. on September 22, 2009 at 12:16 pm Sonnnn

Oh, and I finally see what they are doing with Joe and Stella. It’s just going to be the whole time going nowhere, just like we out in the audience know they like each other but they are never going to act upon it. Nobody is tied down on JONAS LOL. The way they treated Kevin’s relationship on Cold Shoulder helped it make sense to me. It’s not a progressive thing, it’s a repetitive thing.

Reminds me a little of Brandon on 90210. Remember how for a while in the early seasons he had a new GF every.single.episode? it was hilarious.

WEll some of you might be too young to remember that. Lucky you! :D

  18. on September 22, 2009 at 12:41 pm Monica

Did you all see on People.com where Kevin is a camp counselor in CR2?? And talk of the bachelor party…..

    • on September 22, 2009 at 8:24 pm Sonnnn

that’s funny – he mentioned being a student teacher in the next season of JONAS! He must be feeling OLD at almost-22! :)
