That Ding You Do [TeeVee]

Chocolate Tacos, anyone?

This episode was a hoot!

I think I love JONAS best when the insanity of the brothers’ Rock Star Life invades the normalcy of home and school.  This was the perfect blend of sweetness and zaniness.  We have the endearing story of Joe trying (in vain) to impress the skeptical Angelina with what a normal guy he is, when his crazy Rock Star Life keeps invading and foiling his plans.  Finally, Nick has the idea of using Joe’s performer’s gifts to impress the girl, and the rest, of course, is history.

Some choice moments after the jump!

Along the way, we are treated to lots of hilarity.  One riotous ongoing bit was whenever Joe asks for a pen or pencil, the guys’ phalanx of fans, which it seems are never far behind, heave them at him like javelins, impaling them in the wall in the shape of a perfect heart.  Priceless.

Another moment I loved was from my darling Kevin.  He is playing his adorable character to the hilt in this episode, sweetly eccentric and goofy, earnest in his desire to support his bro in pursuing the girl, but ham-handed in execution.  He cuts a swath through the instruments of the orchestra, leaving destruction in his wake; that is, until he plays a guitar.  Then, of course, his virtuosity sparkles through and everyone’s jaws fall open in awe.  Beautiful moment.

And there was Nick’s unctuous lounge lizard pianist, singing Joe’s praises, literally.  “Thank you, I’ll be here all period.”

There was also a very well played scene by Dad.  His heart to heart with Joe (while Joe is wearing Teddy Bear Slippers, no less) is lovely.  And the bit with trying to sweet-talk Mom is cute.

DingYouPost2

But what had to be the best for me was Joe’s triangle concerto.  I just loved how Joe was misread and misunderstood, but his awesomeness won the lady over in the end.

dingyoupost6

I like to think of this episode’s theme as a metaphor for the Jonas Brothers themselves, and their relationship with the unenlightened horde of American Pop Consumers.

dingyoupost3

But what about you Revelers?  What struck a chord for you tonight?

Oh, teddy bear slippers? I watched it twice and ummm, didn’t notice the slippers. I was distracted by uhhh, chest hair, and v-neck and well, you know what I’m speaking of.

WHAT A GREAT EPISODE! Every week it gets more hilarious. I love this show!

The pen and pencil hearts! Joe smiling at Joe in the mirror! Joe shoving the magazine in Angelina’s locker! Plaid plaid plaid! All of Nick’s LOOKS. and singing about Joe! And Joe’s FEELINGS for Angelina, and his PAIN. Beautiful uniform pieces! the plays on the teen magazine, and mistakes in such magazine, and fan letters.

    Awesome…so, totally, awesome.

  2. on June 29, 2009 at 12:11 am Sonnnn

oh my god and the triangle “drum set!” Unbelievable. As was Nick’s solving of Joe’s problem…and yes, “I’ll be here all period.”

and Joe drinking TOO MUCH MILK! and Nick cutting him off after 30. OMG. My DD did NOT get that joke of course but I was rolling tonight while my kids were slightly confused. It’s embarrassing how much glee I feel for this show!!!!!!

And we DO get an episode next SUNDAY! woooooooooo!!!!! at 9:30 a grownup’s hour LOL! I told my kids they are watching it Monday morning! Hah!

  3. on June 29, 2009 at 12:12 am Sonnnn

oh wait ! The GIANT triangle with the GIANT stick to hit it with! Could anything be funnier than that.

  4. on June 29, 2009 at 12:17 am Sonnnn

OK, so sorry. One more thing. Nick’s looks at the music teacher while Kevin was playing, and then his “failed” fist bump which the teacher grabbed awkwardly shaking it. So funny.

BTW what other roles did that actor play – the music teacher? Suite Life maybe?

  5. on June 29, 2009 at 12:35 am Sonnnn

I’m the night blog writer of the group aren’t I?

anyway, I think this link will take you to a slideshow of my bathroom remodel – it should show it how it looked originally and then my choices for new materials, and then the demolition.

I’ll have new photos all this week as it gets more done. Yay!

It says a password is required. I tried “Sondra’s password” and it didn’t work… ;) LOL!!!

      • on June 29, 2009 at 12:56 am Sonnnn

I need to figure out how to make it public…

  6. on June 29, 2009 at 12:51 am Trish

I swear, every episode I watch I say “This is the best one!” because they are all so amazing and hilarious and this is no exception. I mean, do you guys remember when we were afraid we’d be cringing?!

“I’ll be here all period”. My daughter and I were cracking up over that and his little Joe song. Too funny!

    Kevin’s guitar playing = love

Kevin comparing Joe to a triangle…LOL! “He’s made of metal?” :)

30 cartons of milk! Loved it.

    Joe’s panda reference!

I can’t wait to watch this epside again. Wonder how long it takes to show up On Demand?

    • on June 29, 2009 at 12:58 am Sonnnn

it should be on iTunes tomorrow.

Side note – my friends keep asking me, so are you watching that Jonas show? And I give them this look like, hello? yes I’m watching! duh! and then I tell them I have all the episodes on my iPhone.

      (for my kids)

      uh huh.

      • on June 29, 2009 at 1:10 am Trish

        I can’t do iTunes. :(

My daughter’s friends’ father was carrying on about how “crappy and predictible” JONAS was while she was spending the night over there the other day. I was furious. Yet he likes and enjoys shows like Suite Life and HM….*those* are predictible, IMO, and with cheesy laugh tracks!
I think JONAS is very original and full of lots of unexpected quirky humor that you don’t get in the other Disney shows.

        • on June 29, 2009 at 1:24 am Sonnnn

totally. It is much better than any show I have seen on Disney by SO far. What does that guy know!

        • on June 29, 2009 at 7:52 am merry27

c’mon Trish! That guy is crazy..JONAS has better and more subtle humor than both those shows. He just doesn’t like the Jonas Brothers.

          • on June 29, 2009 at 3:33 pm Trish

Oh yeah, her family is anti-Jonas! I can’t even wrap my head around that…

            • on June 29, 2009 at 5:00 pm Sonnnn

yeah, it’s normal to have a problem with a completely decent, admirable, charitable, respectful & adorable family.

              Probably jealousy.

              • on June 29, 2009 at 7:09 pm Trish

                :) You got that right!

        • on June 29, 2009 at 10:57 pm Sonnnn

last night’s episode is not up on iTunes yet. Boooo.

    • on June 29, 2009 at 1:05 am Trish

Ooh! Love that blue glass tile. Gorgeous!

      • on June 29, 2009 at 1:25 am Sonnnn

thanks! I’m doing three rows of that 1×1 glass tile as a border along with the Bottacino marble which will be laid in a French pattern on the shower walls (no more tub) and on the floor.

    • on June 29, 2009 at 7:54 am merry27

Sondra I love it..and the glass tile is so, so pretty. I love those colors and the size of the tiles. When do you expect to be finished?

      • on June 29, 2009 at 9:36 am Sonnnn

This week I think. On Weds the tile goes in so the fixtures will go in after that. Maybe early next week . We havent made a decision on the shower door.

      • on June 29, 2009 at 5:01 pm Sonnnn

will not be finished until next week! Apparently the tile will take several days. It will take a week to order the glass for the shower door and have the granite for the countertop cut anyway, so hopefully by Monday July 13 it will be completely done…

  8. on June 29, 2009 at 1:02 am Sonnnn

I found a way to get both Nick AND Joe in my gravatar! yay!

    • on June 29, 2009 at 5:45 pm Elisa

Love it!! I’ve tried that a couple of times but it’s really hard to find the perfect picture! :)

  9. on June 29, 2009 at 1:26 am Sonnnn

can you believe tomorrow we’ll be able to get the 3D movie???? with extra songs????? I can’t wait! and I can’t wait for my DH to see it – he hasn’t seen it yet!

  10. on June 29, 2009 at 7:45 am merry27

thanks coolmom…you have the best screencaps!!
Every week I just find myself laughing and also sighing at just how cute they are.
I think you captured all my favorites…the scene with Joe in his pjs and slippers- I don’t think we heard any dialogue because he just looked so natural and sweet. When he was wearing the plaid pants (actually plaid outfit) and doing the triangle concert we were dying..
and of course Kevin and Nick were just perfect as the loving brothers..I loved when they were hiding by the lockers. And Nick’s ode to Joe and Kevin’s awesome ness on guitar.
    a great, great episode!
btw in the paper it listed JONAS as #5 for the top digital downloads for the week, ahead of HM at #8.

    • on June 29, 2009 at 10:26 am coolmom823

I LOVED Nick and Kevin “hiding” in the lockers spying on Joe. But, I didn’t have a picture of that, lol, so I had to choose something else! ;)

  11. on June 29, 2009 at 8:01 am cpaig

    Cello there,

I think you hit your nail on the head regarding the metaphor, Coolmom.

I really enjoyed this episode, and I have to point out that my DH has not missed an episode since I forced him to watch Wrong Song. He even left the room while I was watching HM one day (too lazy to change the channel – FWM video was premiering) and he came back and watched JONAS.

The triangle solo was the best.

    • on June 29, 2009 at 10:23 am coolmom823

Yay for your hubby watching! So far my hubby will consent to sleep in front of JONAS while the rest of us watch it, lol!

But, come to think of it, that’s what he does with all the TV shows my kids force him to sit down with them for… ;)

  12. on June 29, 2009 at 9:38 am Sonnnn

Yup – my DH is a big fan too. It’s a great sure for sure!

    • on June 29, 2009 at 10:24 am coolmom823

      Yay for your hubby!

      • on June 29, 2009 at 11:51 am Sonnnn

        He appreciates the “yay!” :)

  13. on June 29, 2009 at 10:16 am Monica

Hey, the Much Music Awards show was on the TV Guide Channel last night. I started to watch it, but it was very late, and I just couldn’t stomach it. It’s so, so bad. I didn’t even see the boys on it (just Perez, Tila Tequila, and some ditzy “Girlicious” group who won for breakout artist – really?). Anyway, it’s supposed to be on again today and again on July 4. My girls were watching it too, and I told them to turn it off. Naked people randomly standing around before each commercial break, with the picture blurred over their parts, was not my idea of quality TV.

Re: JONAS, there are so many lines in that show that I laugh my rear end off at, but my girls don’t. It’s like, they just don’t get some of it, like it’s above their heads. I think that’s what I like about the show! Fashion Victim is still my fave, but last night’s show is a close second. My dd could totally relate to the texting addiction. I loved Nick’s note “stop yelling at us”.

    • on June 29, 2009 at 11:52 am Sonnnn

so for the MMAs, did the JB perform? Is there anything special it would be worth dealing with almost-porn to see? :)

      • on June 29, 2009 at 1:18 pm coolmom823

There is a post on the MMA’s here on SR that has the JB performances. They are the only thing worth watching.

        • on June 29, 2009 at 5:02 pm Sonnnn

god I must have been in a bad place. Oh no, I was on vacation I think. I missed that!

  14. on June 29, 2009 at 10:49 am mollyanne

Hi everybody! Still trying to catch up on what I missed this weekend. My comments regarding the tour were likely to get lost in that post so I’ll just put everything here!

    1. Thank you SO much Amanda and Tiff for sharing your pictures with us. I loved looking at them- unbelievable. And Tiffany for sharing yoru M&G story with us. I had the chills reading it- wow.

    2. Sondra- you’re bathroom is going to look great- I really love the blue tile- so pretty!

    3. This episode of JONAS killed me. They keep getting funnier and funnier.

    4. I can’t believe you get get Nick’s LVATT shirt on Zazzle. I really really want to order one but 24 British Pounds = $40. Yikes. I almost can’t pass it up though- where else will be ever be able to find it?! I may get that instead of the tour shirt at my shows. I can always order that one a couple of paychecks later on the JB merch site. Or just wait until Pittsburgh. Sondra, I think if I order, I’ll order the American Apparel one- the quality will be pretty high and it’s not too expensive. I’m also ordering a mens small. The womens fits just don’t fit right- I want it to be comfy but still cute- and longer than the womens ones will likely be.

Hmm what else?! Can’t think of anything at the moment but I’m sure I’ll be back!

    • on June 29, 2009 at 11:53 am Sonnnn

I think other similar sites to Zazzle might get it – so far it does not look like CafePress has any but maybe another site soon?

      • on June 29, 2009 at 11:54 am mollyanne

Hmm I’m not sure. I want to get it so badly but I know I should probably wait until somebody else over here has it. I’m just afraid it will get pulled due to copyright issues- can that happen?

        • on June 29, 2009 at 11:54 am Sonnnn

I think it will go under the radar. You can get that Burning Up shirt Joe wore on the BU tour still I’m pretty sure.

  15. on June 29, 2009 at 11:19 am sharpld

Yet another JONAS episode made of win! I have watched it so many times, I can even point out some editing mistakes. O_O Watch Kevin’s hands very closely during his classical guitar piece and follow the disappearing ring. I am obsessed. Has anyone developed that 12-step program yet?

My DD and I were wowed by Joe’s plaid pants. His triangle solo is her favorite part. She was also rather indignant that “cello girl” didn’t want to go out with Joe.

I am always transfixed by Kevin and there is usually at least one line he delivers that I can add to my list of favorite Kevin Lucas lines, but his week I have to say it was more about his physical comedy. He makes great faces and I loved the mishaps with the non-stringed instruments. Kevin does zany and sweet so well.

Nic’s lounge lizard act and his problem solving skills could charm a bird out of a tree.
I was really impressed with the way Chelsea Staub and Nicole Anderson work together. I love them on this show.

    I love JONAS!

  16. on June 29, 2009 at 11:54 am Sonnnn

why are we not talking more about Kevin’s long nails for his Spanish guitar solo? Come on, that is attention to detail! do you think he had to have tips put on? too funny!

  17. on June 29, 2009 at 11:58 am Mae

I thought the episode was pretty adorable. The parts that really stuck out to me were Joe introducing himself as Joseph along with all his other nick names, Nick popping a mint into Kevin’s mouth (and Kevin’s “I don’t smell anything!”), and Nick’s song about Joe – I’ve had those four lines in my head since last night.

One thing that I’ve noticed from episode to episode is the boys and Stella sending ‘911′ messages to each other – Joe when he ruined his shirt in ‘Fashion Victim,’ Joe to Nick and Kevin in this episode when the Orch thing wasn’t working out, Kevin to Stella to get cookies and ice cream (I think), the boys to Stella when they are stuck in the thrift shop. I think those have been nice touches.

    • on June 29, 2009 at 12:00 pm Sonnnn

and the way Nick threw the mint into Kev’s mouth so as not to be too hand/mouth with him! LOL!

  18. on June 29, 2009 at 11:59 am Sonnnn

Good news on the remodel! I think DH and I can afford the pivot clear glass door we want for the shower! I really did not want sliding doors…

we want something like this with brushed nickel clamps/handle. This door is perfect because you can see the marble through it and there isn’t a lot of distracting metal.

  19. on June 29, 2009 at 2:00 pm mollyanne

Interesting. I’m at work glancing through foxnews.com, just like I do every day and I see a headline that says something along the lines of “Maxim Monday: Country Newcomer Jessie James….”. It’s the same Jessie James that is opening for the JB- it says so in the article. And she’s photographed wearing nearly nothing on top, including one picture with her using a guitar to cover herself up.

Yikes. Don’t know how I feel about that. I mean, I don’t see how that fits into a JB show. Thoughts?

    • on June 29, 2009 at 3:54 pm Trish

Hmm…I’ve never even heard of this Jessie James. And you can’t be serious…another opening act?!
I can’t take it. I’m the kind of person who shows up late to the movies to miss the trailers! LOL! I’ll be a basketcase waiting for JB to come on! :)

      • on June 29, 2009 at 4:07 pm mollyanne

She has been at a few of their shows so far. I think she just “hosts the show” and introduces the opening acts and maybe performs one of her songs. That’s it. I still think it’s very wierd that she’s there, especially after seeing that she’s in mens magazines. I think it may be a bit inappropriate.

      • on June 29, 2009 at 4:16 pm coolmom823

I believe she’s only doing her bit at a total of 4 shows. I don’t know which ones. But they are early ones, so I think you’re in the clear Trish. :)

Off-topic, I sent you an email yesterday Trish, but didn’t put coolmom in the subject line. Did you get it?

        • on June 29, 2009 at 7:14 pm Trish

Nope, didn’t get it. :( Glad you said something! Can you resend it?

          • on June 29, 2009 at 8:25 pm coolmom823

Hi Trish, I just re-sent the email! Let me know if it doesn’t come through…

  20. on June 29, 2009 at 3:31 pm Anna

Kevin, “Cello there!” That moment made my night. He just keeps getting funnier by the episode :)

    • on June 29, 2009 at 4:20 pm coolmom823

He is wonderful in JONAS, that’s for sure. :)

    • on June 29, 2009 at 5:03 pm Sonnnn

he is so great on JONAS. It’s the most I have ever loved him! So great.

    • on June 29, 2009 at 5:18 pm sharpld

Kevin brings the LOLs. JONAS is a wonderful platform for him to show the world what he’s got outside of his mad guitar skillz.

    • on June 29, 2009 at 9:44 pm Sonnnn

speaking of Kevin love, I really enjoyed the RS article! I read it twice, once to myself and then out loud to my DH. It was so insightful! I learned so much about Kevin, Joe AND Nick. I have such appreciation for Kevin. Loved his last quote about “hearing it ALL”.

  21. on June 29, 2009 at 3:34 pm Trish

Walmart has tote bags of the 1st JB Rolling Stone cover for $12! They’re so nice! :)

    • on June 29, 2009 at 8:28 pm sharpld

I want one! Must find the time to go to Walmart…

  22. on June 29, 2009 at 5:03 pm Sonnnn

My WM does NOT have the RS bag or the Jonas nightgown!!!!! BUMMER.

    • on June 29, 2009 at 7:15 pm Trish

      nightgown?!?!?! Like, women’s sized?!

      • on June 29, 2009 at 9:46 pm Sonnnn

No, girls sized. It’s on http://www.walmart.com. I have to say that I picked up the XL at Target for Elisa, and it would not fit me because I am rather well endowed LOL but if I were not I think I could wear it. I’m size 8 and 5″4″. So I think the XL could fit girls 125 pounds or less…

        • on June 29, 2009 at 11:08 pm coolmom823

          Those are cute!

  23. on June 29, 2009 at 7:17 pm Elisa

I loved this episode so, so much! Probably my favourite one so far… :)

    My favourites parts:

(And I’m going to list them all just because it gives me an excuse to watch the episode again. Ha!)

    - “Let’s see how well I know Joe”
    - “Well, we all have our obsessions… Except for Jonas… They are so mentally fit”
    - “Your thumbs are turning into tiny sumo-wrestlers”
    - “Did that dream-hurt or regular-hurt?” “(I have no idea how to describe the sound Kevin makes… But it’s hilarious!)”
    - “Joseph” (Don’t you just love the way he says it? Lol.)
    - “You probably play to thousands of screaming fans” “Tens of thousands”
    - “What?? In my experience, girls like guys because they’re rockstars.” “Sometimes I wonder if that’s the only reason why girls like me! Well, that and my boyish charm…” (Oh Kevin!!)
    - “I think I like her.” “Like really like her like her?” “Like really like her like her!” “Really?” “Like yeah!”
    - “I do love pandas!” “I love koalas.”
    - Nick giving Kevin the breathmint
    - Nick and Kevin’s “secret signal” convo. Especially Kevin’s “No. I am just demonstrating.” LOL!
    - Joe putting the magazine in Angelina’s locker
    - Macy’s outburst
    - “Last year, I went out with a guy who was also a star. He was a champion mathlete.”
    - “She signs it: xoxo heart, heart, smiley face!”
    - “She’s just one girl, okay? Unless she has an identical twin, in which case I am mistaken and I apologize!” (Loooove the way Nick delivers this line!)
    - “So who’s passionate, talented and beautiful… besides your mother?”
    - “What?” (Joe after dad’s confusing peptalk)
    - “Man I wish that song was three seconds longer…”
    - “Tell her how AWESOME OF A GUY YOU ARE! — I didn’t do that right, did I?”
    - “Well cello there. See what I did there, I put the cello and the… Joe’s a really great guy.”
    - “What can you play?” “What do you got?” And from that moment till the “I’ll be here all period” it’s just sheer bliss. My favourite JONAS moment so far! The song is hilaaaarious. :)
    - “Yes, I’m looking at you, violins.”
    - “30’s your limit bro, I’m cutting you off.”
    - Nick’s note to Stella
    - “I may not have my cellphone… But at least I have my sanity. Send.”
    - “Ok, let’s not be so quick to judge the triangle…”
    - “With any luck, we’ll be able to fill a whole row in the auditorium.”
    - Joe rocking the triangles

Awesome, awesome… I can’t wait to get these episodes on DVD – the quality on YouTube isn’t exactly the best!

Btw, I didn’t notice the teddy bear slippers until you mentioned them, coolmom. :) And I love the screencaps you picked, especially the one on top… Sigh!

Now I can’t get Nick’s song out of my head! My bro… :)

    • on June 29, 2009 at 7:18 pm Elisa

      Favourite parts… Ugh me! :/

      • on June 29, 2009 at 7:27 pm Trish

ROFL!!! Awesome recap, Elisa! Thanks, now I don’t have to rewatch it tonight!! :) :)

    • on June 30, 2009 at 8:36 am merry27

awesome Elisa…I can’t wait to watch it again!!

  24. on June 29, 2009 at 9:13 pm sharpld

OT, but I need a little SR love, please. DD just informed me she does not want to go see JB. She still loves them (read: Joe), but she is absolutely terrified that it is going to be way too loud and that there are so many people there that we are going to get separated and she won’t find me again. She is 7 and the explanation of earplugs and that I won’t let her out of my sight aren’t helpimg. Granted, we have over a month to go and she may go back to being really excited. Until then, any sage words, ladies?

    Thanks in advance!

    • on June 29, 2009 at 9:33 pm coolmom823

If it was me, I would say “OK” and gently move on to another subject when she brings it up. You’ve reassured her, now make it a non-issue. I know the more threatened I am by my kids reacting negatively to something, the more they dig their heels in.

If you don’t big deal it, chances are VERY good that by the time the concert comes it will all have blown over. :)

I totally know what you mean. My DD just turned 8 in April so our girls are basically the same age. The concerts really are too loud for little ones like ours. But the ear protection totally works. I bought the headsets recommended on SR for both kids.

I would also recommend not discussing it unless she brings it up. If she does, I would calmly and quickly alleviate her concerns (from her point of view) – try to find out exactly what SHE is thinking will happen. 7 year olds don’t have a lot of logical thought and they don’t think like we do so we have to communicate with them in the way they are thinking.

I think it will all be fine by the time it has to be. :)

That’s great advice from Coolmom. At that age, mine would not let go of ideas she had in her head. And she was one of those that once she was there, it was OK; it was the fear of the unknown beforehand.

Perhaps there is some type of event you can take her to in the next few weeks – a play, or something with a crowd so it doesn’t feel so foreign?

Maybe re-watching the concert DVD together will help?

      Good luck! :)

(And great advice from Sondra, too…her repsonse wasn’t there when I logged on! ;) )

Thank you so much, coolmom, Sondra, and Trish. You are right. It needs to be a non-issue and by the time the concert is here, I bet her Joe-love will get her to go with me. If not, we will try again next year. I guess I lost my Mom Cool there for a minute and OJD took the driver’s seat. :)

      Thanks for sharing your experiences.

My 14 yr old doesn’t want to go to our show in July, either. I’ve talked about this before on here…she’s “not into their music anymore”. She does still hold a spot in her heart for them and doesn’t hate on them and even still has a few pics of them on her wall and watches every JONAS, but she’s gotten into much more “edgier” music and wants to go to the Warped Tour with a friend. I spent almost $100 per ticket back in March for the JB show, and dammit, she’s going and she’s going to like it! Every time she brings it up I get irritated and just change the subject. I can’t help but think there are thousands more fans out there like her and that’s why their CD only sold half of what ALBL did in it’s first week. But it’s OK to weed out the “fake fans” as my dd always used to call the girls who only liked them for their looks. I tease her now that she’s one of them! At least my 11 yr old is still insanely in love with them. If and when that ends, I don’t know what I will do!!!

BTW the RS article is fantastic! Love the pic of Elvis.

Good morning…err, afternoon now I guess! Got a few more things to do then we are heading to buy the DVD. Not rushing out since there’s no time to watch it until tonight. SO excited, but wish I had a big screen TV! :)

I can’t watch until tonight either…the contractor knows I like them, but I can’t watch the 3D movie with him here! LOL!
