Fame Continues To Be a Surreal Experience for the Woman Who Gave Birth to Them All. [Read]

June 3, 2009 by mememoi

04_Features - MAY

There’s a truly excellent sounding story on Denise Jonas in Good Housekeeping’s July issue – I’ve only read part of it and am wowed.

It has some amazing insight on the birth of the Jonas family as we know it (beginning with Denise & Kevin Sr., that is) and Mama J gets very open about some of the challenges confronting the Boys (and, apparently, the purity rings they are all too known for, according to the gossip blogs).  As typical with the famiglia Jonas, there are some grounding, relatable anecdotes thrown in for fun. [Who didn't love Kristy McNichol?!? LOL.]

It’s already clearly very well done, kudos to the writer, Amanda Robb (a freelancer who has previously written features on both parenting and abstinence pledge issues, intriguingly)!

Read an extended excerpt here, plan to pick up a copy of the mag, and in the meantime catch a behind-the-scenes video of the adorable GH photo shoot  after the jump!

Delicious. The boys in those bright spring colors! And how gorgeous is Denise?! Wow. Note to self: pick up Good Housekeeping. :)

Yes, Denise looks beautiful. When I watched the clip, I couldn’t help but think, “I love Denise.” She’s so normal, down to earth, realistic. I think she holds her sons to high standards, while at the same time realizing that they’re human.

I love that picture on top. Denise looks like Annette Funicello and the boys are like The Lettermen, lol! :)

      OMG, I love Annette!!!!

How many times have you seen Babes in Toyland?

        • on June 3, 2009 at 10:43 pm mememoi

Hmmm…actually none. I am a fraud!! LOL. I loved her on the original Mickey Mouse Club reruns, though. :) I had the same short curly air, so she was an early idol because of that. :)

          • on June 3, 2009 at 11:01 pm coolmom823

It’s a must, as is Beach Blanket Bingo. ;)

Can you believe that Joe is EVERY**effin**WHERE with his vid? LOL!

            • on June 3, 2009 at 11:11 pm mememoi

I sort of can’t…but then I really can.

              Joe is supernova.

And he only has to be himself to be that.

At least it seems like he doesn’t have to work at it, he just has to let himself go. It’s inexplicable and completely logical, all at once.

That’s the way “Star Quality” works.

Blows my mind, watching these stars of “ours” being born, and reborn. :)

Did you know that he’s on the Yahoo Home Page?

Can’t wait to see this magazine. And the Boys look absolutely beautiful! Those spring colors are amazing on them. *sigh*

I love Mama J so much!! She is such an inspiration.. and I am so glad that she allows them freedom to learn, and grow while keeping a close eye on them.. I am not a parent, and probably never will be but that has to be a hard thing to balance at times…

  7. on June 4, 2009 at 10:16 am sharpld

I love reading about how the Jonas family came to be. Mama and Papa J lived from passion and faith and they passed that on to their sons. Their beginnings were so humble and I admire them so much for maintaining sight of where they started. It seems so easy for people who have had nothing and suddenly come into everything to get lost. The Jonases seem to understand that it was hard work, faith and passion that got them where they are and that is what it will take to stay on top. I appreciated Mama J’s comment that she wanted to raise children that were a joy to be around and instill manners and good behavior because they would be adults far longer than they would be children. It is such a logical statement, but one I have never thought about in just that way in the raising of my daughter.

I am constantly amazed by just how much of my life the JB and their family can touch and provide inspiration.

  8. on June 4, 2009 at 11:07 am Mae

WOW in under 24 hours Joe’s ‘Single Ladies’ video has gotten over 1.1 million views!

    That is insane.

  9. on June 4, 2009 at 11:27 am coolmom823

I can’t wait to read the Good Housekeeping article in its entirety. And I have the utmost respect and admiration for Denise.

Please don’t anybody get upset about this, but I was just thinking that IMO Denise would be sort of an intimidating mother-in-law to have. Am I the only person to think this? It’s just that she has been the Queen Bee, so to speak, for so long in that House of Testosterone that I wonder how the pecking order will play out when other women start getting into the mix? :)

    • on June 4, 2009 at 11:36 am mememoi

      Oh, I agree!

This is why, though I try to keep my mental distance, I have a fundamental respect for any longterm girlfriend-of-Jonas. LOL.

But her heart seems very much in the right place. She doesn’t seem like a woman to pick petty battles.

      • on June 4, 2009 at 11:46 am coolmom823

That’s exactly what I mean, girlfriend-of-Jonas, lol! But I concur that she seems like a fair-minded good person. And, the wife-of-Jonas would have lots of compensations… ;)

  10. on June 4, 2009 at 1:42 pm Trish

“You know it’s bad when your mama doesn’t like her…” ;)

I know what you mean, Coolmom, and it’s not a bad thing. Denise has set a high standard to live up to. The girls that eventually win the boys hearts will be ones that understand the Jonas family dynamic and can handle it. I think that Denise will love having daughter-in-laws to befriend since it’s been nothing but boys for going on 22 years!

  11. on June 4, 2009 at 3:21 pm Jan

Denise’s statement reminded me of something that my cousin once said: I would hate for my children to be the ones that people dreaded seeing coming. It’s so true. As a former kindergarten teacher, there were there select few over the years that you always hoped would be absent (and never were!).

On nickjonline, there is a video of the boys singing “Time for Me to Fly” on 11/11/05. That’s only 5 days before Nick’s diagnosis. His shirt is just hanging on him.

    • on June 4, 2009 at 3:35 pm mollyanne

Thanks for the tip Jan. Wow. It’s almost hard to watch, just knowing how awful he must have felt then.

It’s a great video though, they all look so incredibly young.

  12. on June 4, 2009 at 3:22 pm Trish

WHAT?! Just caught the tail end of a spot on Disney Channel with the Boys saying to catch the premiere of their video “Fly With Me” on Sunday!

    • on June 4, 2009 at 3:31 pm mollyanne

I saw your comment and looked around and JonasHQ had something about that too!

HUH?!?! A new video, already? Surely not….would they really release two singles so close to each other?! Seems strange.

    • on June 4, 2009 at 3:53 pm Jan

I bet it has scenes from Night at the Museum 2 in it as well as the boys singing the song. That’s what videos that go with movies are often like.

  13. on June 4, 2009 at 5:10 pm merry27

so much Jonas stuff! I bet the Fly With Me video is just waht Jan says it is, scenes from NATM2 spliced with them playing (hopefully)

And here are some lyrics from Much Better:

I get a rep for breakin’ hearts
    Now I’m done with superstars
And all the tears on her guitar
    I’m not bitter

    But now I see
    Everything I’d ever need
Is the girl in front of me
    She’s much better

    pretty obvs. who it’s about.

    • on June 4, 2009 at 5:31 pm Barbara

Hmm. One could argue that CB is a “superstar”. LOL. :)

      • on June 4, 2009 at 5:42 pm merry27

lol! I say CB is a solid B-lister getting a nice bump from her current boyfriend.

I wonder if those really are the right lyrics though? I saw them on a few Jonas sites but I never checked the source so I apologize if they’re not real.

        • on June 4, 2009 at 7:11 pm coolmom823

Here’s where I saw it merry:

          http://www.starmagazine.com/jonas_brothers_much_better_taylor_swift/news/15671

Star is such a realiable source, lol!

      • on June 4, 2009 at 7:22 pm mememoi

Nah, she’s def. not a superstar yet…though definitely of some kind of reknown.

I hesitate to say I like her, only because I am trying to stay indifferent!!! I feel burned by Taylor by proxy, haha. :) I am no longer subconsciously befriending/supporting the girls they date, too dangerous and weird. I prefer to ignore them.

If those ARE the real lyrics, at least they don’t rhyme
“Is the girl in front of me” with “who was in ‘10,000 BC’”…

        (wokka wokka?)

It keeps the “better” girl nicely non-specific. ;)

        • on June 4, 2009 at 7:50 pm mollyanne1

Hahahahah you’re lyrics are hilarious mememoi.

I just dno’t understand how this went from a song about and for the fans, to a song about ex and current girlfriends. Interesting.

    • on June 4, 2009 at 11:46 pm Jan

When they said “Much Better” was a song for the fans, I’m beginning to think they meant they feel they owe the fans an explanation of what went down last fall with Taylor/Camilla.

  14. on June 4, 2009 at 5:43 pm merry27

and I never commented on Denise Jonas-there’s so much in that article I didn’t know. I really look forward to reading the rest of it.

Are they going to be on the cover?

    • on June 4, 2009 at 7:12 pm coolmom823

They are, according to the video.
