Another JONAS sneak peek! Yahooo!
We get to see more acting, and a bit of how the show will flow. We learn that their favorite back-up singer likes to swim in swamps (for some reason), the name Malcolm Meckle causes more than just a bit of stress, and all three Guys have a knack for physical humor.
I like it. I like it a lot.
Check it after the jump!
I am really impressed with Nick in this clip (all of them, really). Nick has been so preemptively hard on himself in regards to his acting he had me expecting less from him (you trickster, you). I think he is just being too hard on himself. I also just love the way Kevin talks, and how well both he and Joe do with the physical part of this scene.
The clip also has some scary moments like the one below:
That..that right there is nearly an “Oh, My Nose” moment. DUCK, JOE, DUCK!
Look on the bright side, Marsha, at least you didn’t have to get a frogectomy. P.S. Your shirt rocks.
Also released (or unlocked in this case) this weekend is the Stellavator Stylin’ game on the JONAS website. You get to dress the Guys up for different events. You have to get everything just right and the clock is ticking! DO NOT send Joe out in that wrinkly shirt, that just won’t do. The game is fun, and surprisingly challenging. Have fun!

I love the Brady Bunch comparison, cpaig!
The fact that Nick can keep a straight face while delivering the “frogectomy” lines is impressive. I am going to have fun watching hm.
The more clips I see, the easier it is to discern that they really are not just being themselves. They are acting. That seems kind of obvious, but I still bet some viewers won’t get it. Is there anything these boys can’t do?
And yes, Stella’s sweater is horrible. I am guessing that having her as their stylist will be another running joke.
Two weeks, Revelers!
Can I say that I LOVE the raucous physical comedy? And that the guys ROCK at it?
I can’t wait, I can’t wait, I can’t wait!
I could watch these guys all day.
Poor Stella. lol
That was really cute, I loved the way Joe just fell to the ground. I’m so excited!
I just cannot wait. With every clip, every little bit they throw out there, I get more and more giddy. This bit really does show the promise for the timing and physical elements of the show. I think you’re right, though, sharpld, a lot of people just aren’t going to get that they are acting, which is really too bad. We will know better, though.
Marcia! Marcia! Marcia!
thanks cpaig for the clip connecting the 2 shows. So funny. Marcia was THE style idol back in the day with her mini skirts and her pin straight hair.
I really can’t wait, the teasers are so good and I am looking forward to an entire episode to see how it all comes together.
Sharpld you make a great point about their acting. It will be interesting to see how the critics view it all. I don’t care what they say but I wonder if we need to gear up for more Jonas bashing? hope not. It all looks so cute and clever to me.
c’mon May 2nd!!
I think it will get good critical response! It seems to be so well done!
I have nothing to say except I love them.. duh!!
Is it may 2 yet?? So ready!!!
PS… Anyone who has the nerve to take this show too seriously, or bash our boys will get their asses kicked!! WDNTFTW!!
Any guesses what I just said?
We Discerning Ninja Types For The Win?
Woot woot!! Winner winner Chicken dinner!!
Nicely done sharpid!
I hope you all have a wonderful day.. sending hugs and smiles your way!
Hello everyone! Hope you all had a wonderful weekend!
I am loving these posts on new promos for JONAS. They’re great! Each new one makes me more and more excited for the show! We only have a couple of weeks left. YAY!
It sounds like the boys are getting some much needed time off. I wonder what they will do with all that free time! It seems as though Joe arrived in LA alone and supposedly Nick has been spotted in Tennessee. Goodness! It amazes me how they can get places so fast. I’m so happy for them that they get some time to do what they please- I hope they actually relax and enjoy it, and that we don’t see any paparazzi pics of them. For the love people just leave them alone for two weeks!
I wouldn’t complain if there was a twitter update occasionally just letting us know they are alive.
agreed-I hope they get to have some fun and relax. I would kind of like to know where Kevin is though. Just curious.
And Nick is going to be on The Doctors and that airs on May 1st. Of course it’s about diabetes.
What’s The Doctors? It sounds like a soap opera! What station is it on?
I looked it up Jan – it’s on CBS, 9 am in NY but I guess you have to check locally for the right time.
I am glad they are taking some time off, too, and wil be happy not to see their gorgeous faces on the gossip sites for a few weeks. So, yeah, papparazzi, give them a break, please.
It is still odd for me to see them apart from each other, because there were so many years where that just didn’t happen. That said, it makes me feel better about them growing up to be their own people with different intersts and friends.
In all honesy, though, I would have put Kevin in TN before Nick.
Hmmm, I assume they are all spending quality time with their girls. I would think that Kev would have headed to Jersey, Joe back to LA, and some are saying that a certain Jordan Pruitt lives in Franklin, TN where Nick was spotted.
I’m just so happy that they have some time to be NORMAL! When was the last time they had two whole weeks off??
They are growing up which is always a big transition. Kevin – he’s going to be doing more and more “big boy” (LOL) stuff I’m sure.
I hate to be the Debbie Downer of the group, but I did not like that clip. I was itching to either mute or stop the clip for the entire minute.
An actual frog in her throat. That much physical comedy. It’s all too over the top for me.
I’m still trying with all my might to withhold judgement until the show airs (just as I was doing after hearing the “Pizza Girl” song). I’m thrilled at the prospect of 30 minutes of the boys every week but I’m just paranoid I’m going to spend 20 of those minutes cringing behind a pillow. I can’t help it!
I know I’m not the primarily demographic, and K, maybe I am taking the show too seriously, but I just don’t fully get it. Other clips have seemed promising but there’s something I can’t pinpoint. Almost like the show is trying too hard to be funny. How much can they rely on physical comedy to get them through an entire series? The comedy just doesn’t seem as smart as I was expecting either. I don’t know what I was expecting. It is Disney Channel…
That said, Joe’s disbelieving look at :30 secs is adorable, as is Kevin’s delivery of the line “there is a bug going around.”
::dodges tomatoes::
I won’t throw tomatoes at you, Mae. You were much nicer than my DH when I made him watch a promo with me. He is not a fan to start with and the TV show is, if anything, pushing him farther into the “No JB” camp. I am certain I will do some cringing. Maybe we should have special SR cringing pillows?
Thanks for understanding sharpld
I so badly want this show to be good for them, but if even I, as a huge fan, am cringing and questioning, what are the critics going to say? I just don’t want the boys to be torn apart.
SR cringing pillows are a brilliant idea!
LOL, I LOVE that idea!
I actually think they offer pillows at Cafepress…hmmm!!!!
I think my expectations were so low that I am really enjoying this.
I take it with a grain of salt.
I plan to just take it for what it is.
Aw, Mae – I always like your dose of straight talk. I usually agree quite a lot. This time is no different. This wasn’t my favorite of the clips so far, although I don’t mind the physical humor. The writing presented has just been a bit inconsistent, but I don’t think it matters too much – because it is what it is.
The last set of character clips were the best and most reassuring for me, yet. Especially Joe’s. I always find Joe to be the highlight because (and maybe I am projecting but this is what I have always liked about him) of the way he plays off the goofiness by never looking like he takes it too seriously. I think that allows him to look pretty slick no matter what silly thing he’s doing or saying, even in the music promo commercial (the songs and videos of which were making me flashback hard to my Kids Incorporated Fan days, LOL.)
I look forward to seeing how all these pieces (gags I love, gags I don’t love) fit together and how their performances hold up and how each boy comes off. They each have SUCH different strengths – I think that’s already clear in the clips we’ve seen.
And I also hope we are not fending off critics who take it all too seriously. This is not going to be Shakespeare, but it’ll be fine!! There will be great moments and bad ones.
Something that has driven me crazy about the Boys’ non-album, Disney Channel career is that they do very normal things on the Disney arc (ie. straightforward DCOM, and that the first season of any show is usually pretty iffy compared to the later ones which can get pretty brilliant), but when THEY do it, they never get the benefit of anonymity that the other shows get. I remember thinking the first seasons of Hannah Montana and Wizards of Waverly place were AWFUL. Now I LOL at those consistently. But with the Jonases, everyone is watching and expectations are through the roof. It doesn’t always play to their advantage. This bugs me.
But I know/hope they are too awesome as a band to be really damaged by it, because they aren’t so shallow that they need it – they do plenty of great musical stuff that is who they really are musically. I agree with Kevin, this is a cool way for them to get to try to spread their wings creatively – even if it won’t have a broad appeal.
Anyway, I TOTALLY know where you’re coming from – not wanting to cringe over it, and my rule of thumb has become that I try not to be a purist about some of the things they have to do because of their demographic and their label. If I can’t take it, I just ignore it (for example, I can NOT take the teenybopper magazines…I don’t feel obligated to acknowledge them at all).
I am fine with them doing stuff that could be categorized as a novelty, as long as it’s not messing with the great stuff – the albums and tours I love. And I figure one day we’ll all be able to look back fondly on these teenybopper days and chuckle.
OK…
/thesis!! I hope that didn’t sound like lecture, Mae. Just sharing how I personally rationalize it.
mememoi, the writing does seem inconsistent because I agree that Joe’s set of character clips seemed to work. Quite well actually. His attempt at using his hands to form a secret code to Nick actually made me laugh. Another of his clips that made me smile was when he doned the bowtie and proclaimed “it was ok! it was still him.” Joe asking about he bite marks in the candle, and Kevin’s “it smelled delicious” was good too.
What I cringed and gave a WTF look was Nick walking around with the cement bucket on his foot. I have no words for that. Way too over the top.
I just don’t feel like they had to take the over the top route to make their show work.
Funny you should mention Hannah Montana and Wizards as I honestly was hoping for more Wizards comedy. While home sick a few months ago I caught a marathon. And I LOL’d over and over. They took at silly concept and made it work with a certain type of, in my opinion, smart humor. The silly and smart complemented each other. I haven’t seen the earlier episodes so I really can’t comment, but I’ve really enjoyed what I’ve seen.
And don’t apologize for your thesis! I appreciate hearing about how you rationalize it. Helps me!
Really mememoi? You mean you DON’T read Tiger Beat and Bop cover to cover? How then, pray tell, do you get smart?
Heehee, I KNOW. Think of everything I’ve MISSED. Considering there must be like 30,000 issues of these mags with them featureed prominently, someone could probably teach a college course on the content therein!
No tomatoes, Mae.
You are absolutely entitled to your opinion, and I’m sure you won’t be alone. But I do think you might have to lower your expectations if you are going to find any enjoyment in the show.
I don’t think the show is meant to be taken seriously at all. The whole vibe is “wacky” versus “comic.” Comic is finding humor is realistic situations, wacky is taking a reality and stretching it to crazy limits. For example, when Penny’s angel wings were HUGE and crashing into everyone and everything. And when they are dancing on a pizza singing to a beautiful giant of a girl. Even the names of incidental characters and such are goofy. “Horace Mantis Academy”? “Malcolm Meckle” the record executive? WACKY! It’s never going to be subtle. And it’s not going to appeal to everyone.
I think this choice was the right one for JB, precisely because they are novice actors. Acting natural in a crazy non-realistic world is easier to do than achieving credible comic acting in a realistic world. This show is completely playing to JB’s existing strengths: enormous charisma, naturally funny personalities, innate adorableness, guileless, sweet likability, and effortless charm. These things would not have helped them if they were required to sustain scenes of 5-8 minutes at a time, with the timing and give-and-take required to pull off a typical sit-com show. That requires technique and experience that JB does not have. Not that they couldn’t acquire it, but this way they can show off what they do best right now, to the delight of their adoring audience.
If you think you will be cringing at this, you don’t even want to know how painful it might have been, if they had been shoe-horned into a typical Disney sit-com.
You make a very good point coolmom. They were limited as to what would work for them based of their acting ability, but it still really bothers me that the comedy seems so forced. From what I’ve seen its seems like everything is going to feel overly contrived. I was hoping for a better mix of your explanations of “comic” and “wacky.”
The wacky comedy isn’t my cup of tea at all, if that wasn’t already completely obvious! In my opinion, it makes the boys seem really young which makes sense as they are trying to appeal to a Disney Channel audience, but it gives me a weird vibe. Kevin and Joe are going to be 22 and 20 this year. It just doesn’t fit in my mind.
p.s. I loved how you described their strengths. Talk about hitting the nail on the head
You are absolutely right, Mae, wacky comedy can feel contrived. It’s the nature of the beast. Not everyone’s cup o’tea!
I have to agree that it does make the boys seem youngish, and I think that it’s what Disney has decided that the audience requires. For good or ill, the Kingdom of Mouse is populated with the very young. I look to my girls as the benchmark, and they think the wackiness is divine. To them, it’s F-U-N! Their reaction is exactly what Disney is hoping for.
And as mememoi pointed out, it’s unfortunate that this project won’t be able to skulk into the line-up and have a chance to work out any kinks before nay-sayers start taking shots at it. That’s something that is grossly unfair about JB’s positioning in the Disney pantheon vis-a-vis other stars. Where were the haters when HM premiered?
I’ve already made peace with the criticism that is sure to be leveled at the show once it airs. And I have decided that I’m going to enjoy the show, because I happen to love wacky comedy, and because I love JB, and also because I know how much worse it might have been.
Que sera, que sera, KWIM?
GREAT assessment coolmom!
I think the difference is the level of subtlety they are able to draw from the Boys and that’s what they have to work with. They are not incapable of subtlety (esp. Joe in my opinion! heehee) but it is not a consistent strength. I think they did what they had to do.
Mae, thank you for opening up this conversation. I was afraid to for fear of cyber-tomatoes being thrown at me!! I am naturally a hand-wringer, and some of what I’ve seen makes me cringe, too. But at the same time, some of it has been hilarious. And I agree about the age thing…when are they going to be too old for Disney? Seems that Kevin and Joe are already there, and I have to wonder if they are comfortable in the position they are now in. All eyes will be on this show, and I hate that the critics and haters are going to have a hey-day with this if it bombs. I know, who cares what they say, but after so much of it, it does have an impact on their reputation. I hope I am wrong, but I don’t have a good feeling about the show. Sorry!!! It will be fun to see them every week, though!
On a more positive vibe – did you see where Nick will be on “The Doctors” on May 1? Something about an episode about diabetes and a girl who suffers from it gets to meet him and they have a surprise for her. I think it’s on Jonashq.
Such good questions Monica…I wish I knew: are they really excited about this, or are they gamely fulfilling a contractual obligation like the pros they are, grinning and bearing it?
Don’t think we’ll ever know that one until if/when they write their memoirs, which I mention often – I CAN’T WAIT FOR.
Love reading what everyone has to say about the shows. Very insightful.
I thought I remember them saying in an interview that (I think it was Nick?) they are glad they are doing this so that they have something to offer their young fans- as their music gets more mature and the concerts more intense, this is something that young fans can enjoy while older fans enjoy the new cd for what it is.
I could also totally be making that up. Maybe I dreamt it?
And mememoi, are you saying that you don’t have a subscription to Tiger Beat and Bop? What the heck do you use for reading material then?
lol molly, did you see my comment to mememoi above? Great minds, eh?
Hahaha, I didn’t see it! it’s so tiny, all hidden up there.
Actually, I was stealing your witty comments and claiming them as my own.
Shockingly, I do not.
In the spirit of full disclosure, tho, LBF did once have her dad pick up an M magazine for her at 7 Eleven. We did use the posters and they are pretty great!!!
thanks to Mae for bringing up some interesting points and to SR for allowing intelligent discussion with no tomato throwing.
My expectations were also very low and I have been pleasantly surprised but I just enjoy looking at them so much that I think I can’t be objective anymore.
The reason I brought up critics in an earlier post was because of my husband’s negative reaction to the promo and he is a JB supporter.
But my daughter has laughed hard at everything and I guess she is their target audience and that’s important. Disney doesn’t need to make it appealing to older fans.
Molly that sounds like something Nick would say and it kind of makes sense.
I love the ideas of the cringe pillows-so funny.
Exactly…Disney doesn’t need to make it appealing to adults. And that’s fair enough and totally acceptable.
BUT – If they were a bit more aware of what was going on with this band though, they would at least TRY to appeal to older fans.
This was the shortcoming of Camp Rock (for me) and (though I LOVE LOVE LOVE it) the same shortcoming affected the 3-D movie. I don’t really get what the problem is, or who that misdirection might be coming from, but it does kinda bother me that it’s becoming the rule rather than the exception. The classiest thing Disney did with them were the “Living the Dream” shorts.
Huh. It’s strange. Just another handwringer on the pile.
I think because we know how naturally funny and charming they can be it’s odd when that doesn’t come across.
And as long as Disney is making $$ they won’t change.
which is fine, I guess.
Since we have only seen a few minutes we don’t really know at this point if there will be some more mature stuff. As coolmom pointed out, Horace Mantis is funny and Nick yelling Stella might be over the heads of most tweens.
I think it will be like a scale with the show on one end, the cd on the other and the concert kind of in the middle.
So you can enjoy your Jonases lots of different ways.
Another thing that causes the cringing, btw, is having so much familiarity with the group, caring about them as obsessively as we do and the desire for other people to see why they don’t suck. It is painful to see them have to do things that are going to prevent other people from getting there with them.
Oh, well.
I still think they are better actors than the Monkees were, and that show was great.
You put it so well! Exactly!! I just wish other people would GET how awesome the Boys are.
Ugh, I hate computers… everything I wrote just disappeared! Well, let’s try this again…
Cpaig, the title of this post was my absolute favourite moment of the clip… There’s something about the way Nick said it that made me laugh and watch the same thing again… and again… and again.
Great conversation, ladies, as always… I don’t think I’ve cringed once, yet, and I think I’m going to enjoy the show! I’ve really liked the previews so far, I guess I’m immature enough to appreciate the Disney Channel, in-your-face type of humor.
My only problem with these Disney projects is that they make it harded for the Boys to achieve credibility in the music industry. So many people already have this image of the Jonas Brothers being just another “Disney group”… It really bothers me because the Boys’ music is truly amazing and Disney has nothing to do with it. They are so much more talented than people give them credit for. But some day, some day…
P.S. I can only hope that Joe spends this free time to work on his “Single Ladies” dance moves…
Just kidding!
Single Ladies should be soon. I hope.
It seems like a year ago that we saw that video.
and I heard the song on the radio the other day and it sounded like something from the archives.
I don’t think I’ve cringed yet, either. Maybe for the toe stomping bit in this clip, but it was mostly OK. I’m curious to see what the whole show together looks like.
I’ve watched Hannah Montana and enjoyed some of the episodes. Wizards of Waverly Place I don’t like, nor Suite Life. Sonny with a Chance I find cute, except for some of the parts with the lesser characters.
I guess I’m mostly a kid at heart! (Turning 40 this summer – argh!)
I hope the show does well. So far I think it’s a cut above all the other shows on Disney. (Which maybe isn’t saying much!)
Btw – I have never watched the Brady Bunch. That clip was my first glimpse of the show… I’ve heard of it, of course, but I’ve never actually watched it.
Elisa, if you ever get the chance to see it somehow, you totally should. It’s truly an American Popular Culture icon, absolutely a touchstone of 70’s sit-com fabulousness!
In other words, it’s so bad it’s GREAT!!!
oh yeah it’s like a time capsule!
OMGOMGOMGOMGOMG go to JONASHQ NOW. Is that the real cover for the CD? If it is, I just died.
It’s the ONE!

OH MY GOD Molly!!!!!!!
I LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT!
Sorry for the caps… But I am SO excited, I swear I got all teary-eyed when I saw it!!
It’s BEAUTIFUL!! Seriously can’t think of a better word!
Ahhhhhhh. I want to frame that picture!
New album cover thread!
I have to catch up! But I did not like poor Nick with the cement foot either. But I think just cause I felt bad for him. LOL
Everyone (esp kids) loves physical comedy – I do think that is Disney’s niche and it does mostly work.
