OK. That is a heck of a mouthful of a post title for this loooong musing. It’s probably for the bravest among you to endure in detail (or just skip if you aren’t in the mood for neurotic fretting, LOL…to quote Big Rob: Go, save yourselves!).
Anyway – at least for myself – it needed to be stated. It’s been a very Jonas-y weekend, so while I have been savoring them, I’ve also had lots of time to reflect on their recent career happenin’s.
That title quote was encouragingly well-put by a repeat voice-of-reason, critic & rock expert (and my current, unofficial boo) Chris Willman. It came as a great relief to me last night in a Huffington Post blog piece entitled: “Jonas Haters, You Have Nothing to Fear But JoBro-Phobia Itself“. Like me, he’s apparently been pushed to edge by raging anti-Jonas backlash.
I was working up a doozy of a handwringing post…prompted by the frantic dismay that came from reading too many soul-crushingly negative reviews and now so-called “bleak” box office predictions (which I plow through out of a morbid sense of bloggerly obligation) for the 3-D Concert Experience and other hateful nonsense. I was feeling riddled with indignance and even some self-doubt; Chris’ column helped bring me back to a Jonas-friendly Earth.
Do I really care about what critics think? Not individually, no. They’re just regular people with the same baggage and frequently off-base preconceptions as all of us. They can’t tell me what to think or enjoy. But what bothered me was the trend: a critical mass of mocking disapproval – that despite managing to pull off a Grammy nomination and more under-the-radar musical accomplishments, the average cultural commentator thinks it’s OK to treat the Boys at best as a guilty pleasure, at worst as a joke. It’s not the industry role I think they deserve.
Needless to say it was bumming me out to have so few credible people stand up for the Boys and what made me take notice of them – skilled musicianship and stellar stage presence that makes them worthy of their now-overwhelming hype.
But then a hero came along (hehe)…
Find out what he said, after the jump!
Says Chris of the Jonases:
…what they are coming up with is bloody impressive, and not just for their age. Listen to the dozen-plus songs performed in this concert movie (and it is a concert movie, not a pseudo-documentary, a few backstage bits aside) and you’ll hear unpretentiously propulsive rockers like “Pushin’ Me Away” that could have been hits even in the more demanding late ’60s. In fact, if many of the Jonas Brothers’ songs appeared in a vintage compilation like Nuggets, the celebrated garage-rock collection that is a staple in every rock critic’s household, the rock intelligentsia would have collective dry-mouth from slobbering over these newly discovered gems.
That’s an important observation that needs to made clear about the Jonas Brothers and their music, and one which should be relentlessly touted to the naysayers above all else. Commercial success is awesome – but emphasizing their musical achievements should be probably more important than commercial benchmarks and a desperate scramble to achieve them.
Let me take a breath for a moment here, and enjoy some nice live video of the song Willman likes to hold up as an example of Jonas prowess (I obviously agree):
All right, then. So, on the basis of this alone, maybe I should just shut out the haters, but often I can’t. I am just not good at ignoring the smarmy chattering classes who I can’t resist thinking need to be told the truth.
Sometimes it bugs me because underneath the familiar dismissiveness towards the Brothers – unfortunately the current default position in most things I read – there are repeated points of criticism that ring understandable. Something about the Jonases’ current marketing allows critics to push the value of their music to the wayside, and instead only look only at their earnings before proceeding to shower them with artistic disrespect and focus on musically-irrelevant “news” about purity rings, personal lives or their perception that the Jonases are all prepackaged personalities and arrogance (say hwa?). WDT know that isn’t true – we’ve seen their realness, humility and grace displayed a million and one times over the past few years.
So why has this been so hard to convey beyond the target demographic? Is it the critics’ problem, or the Jonas Group’s? Are Disney execs to blame? I surely don’t think the Guys should have to compromise themselves or their beliefs, ever, and they don’t appear to. But often that fact – and the parts of their personality that don’t rely on that aspect of themselves – seems like something only superfans can see. I sometimes wonder if Disney handlers are completely clueless that there are many curious adults and serious critics looking for a toehold of insight into the Jonas magic-beyond-the-music, and that they are failing to be satisfied, so far.
So, I worry. I worry that each Disney project makes it harder on the Boys. I worry about them getting defined as little but a target for cynical snark-peddlers. I still worry they might be slightly mis-positioned by the very corporation to whom they owe their household name, who seem to play right into the haters’ hands by keeping their eyes on the prize of the moment (money from the young and hysterical) without a care for the Jonases’ musical future or reputation (what do they really care?).
JB3DCE might not cut it as a rock-documentary (it should never have been promoted as such, anyway) but I adore the movie, of course, duh. I sort of wish that some of the more natural charms of “Living the Dream“, or even a live chat came through for the benefit of those forced to review this movie without that context that we have. (I see what they were going for overall, and it wasn’t that “holistic view of Jonas” some of us may have wanted.)
But what I really wanted was a movie for everyone else to fall in love with the sound and energy and personality of the Jonas experience. Many reviews made it abundantly clear that this mission was not accomplished the majority of the time. Whatever! How hard could it be, just looking at this?…
Of course, Willman rocks a defense much better than I could. He doesn’t let frustration with peer ignorance get the better of him or rail against the failure of the producers to showcase the Jonases offstage perfectly and authentically, as I did in my head. He simply puts it in perspective and sets the record straight in terms of what to focus on in the film – the concert sequences - it’s an exquisite concert movie of a great young group and that should be more than enough for you people!!
Oh, and he throws critics’ ridiculous biases in their faces wonderfully with more of his historic rock expertise:
The Los Angeles Times review of the new film, which couldn’t be bothered to definitely distinguish which brother is which, found the tuneage “mostly sounding like a modernized iteration of the glam-pop style of Cheap Trick or Redd Kross but minus the rust-belt roots or ironic self-regard.” Sounds like a resounding endorsement to me, though the critic in question meant it as a slam.
…
But two decades on, do we really require “ironic self-regard” as a prerequisite for enjoying the timeless virtues of nitty-gritty riffs, soaring hooks, clever bridges, and reasonably articulated puppy lust? Even if the purveyors are preternaturally talented, or at least largely self-made, teens? We once bought the earnest, adolescent glee of “Can’t Buy Me Love” without forcing the song to pass some archness bar; perhaps it’s not a nullification of everything we’ve learned about the world since to embrace it again.
We discerning types know how to steel ourselves against unfair negativity. But impressionable young fans do not, I don’t see how this couldn’t have a negative impact. We may not want to address it further, but the Jonases’ management has no real choice.
The fact remains that the Jonas Brothers do have the eyes of the world on them right now. This isn’t easy to come by, and I still think they’d do best not to squander it, by pandering to a fickle audience that is best for Disney but not always for the band (letting commercial goals trump artistic ones) and, further, letting the jerks out there manipulate their image into a false one. You only get one reputation. In any case, it is nice to have someone other than squealing superfans (myself included a lot of the time) take an interest in safeguarding their public dignity for the long haul, while it’s still developing.
Anyway – I was happy, on my last viewing of the movie, with LBF, to let my reservations melt away. I watched her bop and clap along…she was, indeed, in love with the experience, and reminded me why I have been too for all this time…for us it is about musical performance.
Great is great…it doesn’t have to matter what other people think – or buy – and I sure don’t want to see the Jonases burned by any of that.
Please give Chris Willman’s whole piece a read and thank him for not bowing to the status quo!
So take heart, but seeing as this is mostly still an official handwringer post, feel free to air your own frettings, misgivings, ideas & supersonic blasts of positivity (please!) in the comments, below, and consider…
What do you think about commercial and critical expectations and judgments the Boys are subjected to these days?

Heehee…sorry for the neverendingness of this post…I had to get it all out after reading so much icky press, y’all.
EPIC!!!!!
mememoi that CW article is so great. I hate parents like the ones he describes. Dreading taking their kids to the JB movie? really?
And I thought exactly the same thing about the Cheap Trick comparison(awesome, no?) and the laziness of the critics who reviewed the film. I’ve seen so many errors: Kevin doing handsprings, Nick 17 years old, etc…
So I think you’ve said it all and I hope that this is the start of a pro JB movement that goes beyond the Disney/boy band (enough already) image and focuses on THE MUSIC.
Because it’s so great and it’s just going to get better..
Exactly merry, “a pro-JB movement”, LOL – that is it exactly!!!
Can I sit near you when you go to the concert with him?
I’m going to comment him if I can come up with something intelligent enough.
But wow, it’s just what’s needed tonight.
Although after reading how they came up with the original movie weekend take projections (they can’t talk to teens and it’s actually Saturdays that make or break it not Fridays) I can see how they can be off.
But that’s no excuse for the way the 2nd place finish is being reported. Shame on Perez Hilton especially.
so the “movement” begins!!
Ignore the JBs at your own risk.
love it.
Heehee, merry you always see me (not that it is hard), LOL!
Yeah, the reporting and projections set them up for a fall. Where did you see the formula?
Merry, totes comment him – what’s intelligent? As long as we thank him and don’t look like psychos, I figure it’s all good.
and you’re doing a great job defending them all over the blogosphere! Not an easy feat.
I’ll try to find the article that listed the formula, just a general google search under JBs.
I thought I did some commenting on the HP during the election but I can’t remember my screen name-it seems like years ago.
But you’re right-he really deserves some support.
It was in The Carpetbagger a NYT blog:
The chasm between industry expectations and reality for the Jonas Brothers film underscores the difficulty in predicting demand for children’s films. Friday results are normally extrapolated to come up with a weekend estimate, but Saturday matinees can make or break (as they did in this case) the final tally. The polling services upon which studios rely are also not allowed to directly contact minors. Mr. Viane said 65 percent of “The Jonas Brothers” audience was under 17 years old.
Hey, 35% over 17. We’re out there!
Yet another post that makes me go “Yes! That’s just it, but much better than I could’ve articulated it!” The Willman article is fantastic – I think I may have to direct several friends and family members in that direction.
“we’ve seen their realness, humility and grace displayed a million and one times over the past few years”
I dragged my parents with me to the movie, and I think what my mom took away from it, more than anything else, was how humbled (and at times overwhelmed) they are by their success and crazy fame. It still baffles me when people can’t see how genuinely charming they are when they just get to be themselves. People are so stubborn about the need to view anything genuinely upbeat and targeted largely at younger markets with derision.
and you are saying that so well lemming5fe.
I am often baffled by the same thing.
Thanks, lemming. I totally agree with you. Ugh.
Mememoi – Quick read – awesome (drinks)! I am going ot have to read this several times to get all of the gems. Thank you for this.
I will comment more lengthily later – but my short comment would be that my own philosophy about the Jonas Brothers is the “long haul.”
I am waiting it out. I am waiting for all the Disney mania to proceed and then fade out, and for them to go to their own label. I’m waiting for them to all grow into their 20s, grow up, write more mature-themed songs and get even better.
They are not going anywhere IMO because they are fantastically talented and totally driven.
So I’m waiting with them. And looking toward a different future. It won’t be like this forever. I am loving the fun parts of it and waiting for the future.
I like this flamom.
Me too.
Thank you so much Merry and Mememoi!!
Right there with you, flamom!
Awesome post Mememoi!
Well said!
LOL cpaig…well said is about all I can come up with in my head after this Jonas filled weekend…I am still quite blissed out.
Wow mememoi….thank you so much for this. It is exactly what we needed. I will go back and reread and leave a longer comment as I only have my phone now and that makes it very hard.
Both you and CW said it better than I ever could. I especially love what you said about being unsure that the Disney handlers know about the more mature fans.
And flamom…bravo! I too will wait for the boys and grow with them and I cannot wait to see what the future holds for them.
Congratulations boys on an amazing weekend and thank you for everything you gave us this month. The movie was amazing and if money were no object, I would see it evey single day. I can’t wait to see what you come up with next.
Oh Mollyanne you just reminded me that FABruary is over.
What a month!!!
Well said mememoi. And it needed to be said. I will send a virtual kiss to Chris Willman and say that finally someone gets it.
And I have to echo what you all have said about believing in the future of JB. The future that they will have beyond the hype, when they are no longer subjects of the Mouse King and can just be who WDT have always known them to be: truly gifted musicians and artists.
I am saddened that it all comes down to dollars and cents, when no pricetag can ever adequately convey the pure joy of seeing passionate artists perform wonderful music live.
OT but I heard Monsters Inc. 2 is due out in 2013 and I am so excited. I just love Monsters Inc. I love the world it exists in and I love the characters.
If you haven’t seen the Laugh Floor at Hollywood Studios (DW) you need to!
Oh, and also – if you’re in the Disney Movie Rewards program (and you should be!!!!!!) – don’t forget to get the form and mail in your Jonas Tickets (usually you can do up to 4) and get your points! Off to do that now!
I was just talking to a friend this morning about how I feel like the boys deserve a lot more credit than they receive. Also, its so frustrating that so many people are down on them all the time. It just seems like whenever someone is doing something good, and they’re successful everyone has to rag on them for it. I’m so glad that they are people out there aside from us, who recognize their talent and their worth as human beings. They do amazing things everyday. They deserve every ounce of success they receive.
random side note: Garbo twitter??
http://twitter.com/greggarbo
How do we verify if it’s really Greg? Because if it is, I will read it.
Is this JT? I don’t understand Twitter. Why would these people want strangers to see what they are saying? Shouldn’t they just do Facebook or IM people privatelY??

Quote: “But what I really wanted was a movie for everyone else to fall in love with the sound and energy and personality of the Jonas experience.”
Yes! Exactly! I didn’t realize that this was in the back of my mind as well, until I read that line. But in reality, I should have known that wasn’t going to happen anyway. The closeminded haters wouldn’t go if you gave them a free ticket so it really doesn’t matter. The movie is for us. They made it for us – the real, true fans, who have supported them on their rise. I am certain that box office earnings were not on the minds of Kevin, Joe, or Nick during the filming…only that their fans would be happy with the outcome, whether we be 14 or 40. And we, the fans that matter, are more than pleased!
Thanks for the link to that article, mememoi. I’ll stick to my original plan to avoid the negativity and just read that one over and over again…
It’s hard to know.
Although I did find it interesting that Garbo’s says that he got a ticket for running a stop sign, and then one of the guys from Honor Society’s says ‘consoling a friend who got a ticket for running a stop sign’ and the other guys’ say they are writing with Garbo today.
I’m thinking thats enough validity for me!
and I’m also thinking I have a Twitter addiction…
In other news, I’ve been avoiding checking Google Alerts today because of all of the negativity. I decided to open one and see what I found. One Article. Title: Jonas Brothers Rock in 3D film.
Maybe there are more supporters than I thought….
does Sibling Revelry have a Twitter so I can add it?
I found Demi Lovato too:
http://twitter.com/ddlovato
But I don’t have IRL friends on there. I would like to follow my own friends too …
who here has Twitter??
I do flamom! mollyanne1
Be careful flamom- it’s super addicting!
You can go ahead and find me if you want.

Hi all!
Sorry to be so late the the party, but I was sick a lot of the day, so my day is everyone else’s night.
I love the CW article, and while I despise the haters I am reminded of the quote that describes the boys as missionaries disguised as rock stars. I try to remember that those who strive to go against the grain while bringing life and light to everyone around them are often met with hate, ignorance, and the deepest of criticism. Having the courage to swim against the tide is often the most difficult thing one can do, but in the end when it is done from the heart for the right reason it is always rewarded.
I agree with flamom, that they are going no where, and the WDT are along for the ride… enjoying the highs, and holding their hands from a far as they deal with the lows.
I feel like Nick’s statement to BW was very telling; that they know their true fans are different, and we are indeed with them for the long hall.
All the haters can just shove it! Go rain on someone else’s parade… WDT’s come equipped with umbrella’s and rain boots!!
♥
Well said K! I’ve got my rain boots ready to go!
P.S. for anyone who wants to know.. I tweet!
twitter.com/livenoutlouder.
Very well put, K! They are fully aware that the tide is high right now and are riding the wave in their fashion, but that things will level out and their fans of a different color will still be there for them. No matter what BW was trying to imply.
K, sorry you weren’t feeling well. Loved your post (bring on the rain boots and umbrellas
Their blog about it all is (as Trish predicted) sweet and gracious and humble.
And while there are lots of great articles about the invasion I liked the USA Today one because it gives a few new details about their clothes and stuff.
And confirms that the big old mercedes really is Joe’s car.
Interesting choice…..
Tiffany thanks for posting Garbos twitter info. That’s a good one.
and yeah it can be addicting.
we are totally snowed in today! a fitting way to mark the end of Fabruary.
Thanks mer! I wrote you finally…
I just knew in my heart of hearts that was Joe’s car… something about it just makes me smile!!
Do you tweet??? If so, I have to follow you!!!
Sorry about the snow… man I am I sad fabruary is over!!!
LOL I just got the e-mail saying you are following me so now I am following you… yay!!!!
I usually just follow other people as you can see, mostly because while my 2 kids have state of the art cell phones(of course) mine is still pretty lame and does not have a qwerty keypad but once I upgrade I’ll be better about twittering. I do enjoy following everyone else.
and today is the day I’ll write you back…that’s a promise (“and we always keep our promises” jb on hm
)
I totally understand.. I just got a better cell phone this year with a qwerty key pad this year, and now I do not know how I ever lived without it!! No worries about writing me back, but I will be looking forward to it!!!!
We have twitter…I started following this supposed (likely – I recognize some of the friends) Greg and then saw how few followers he had and felt weird and undid it…lol. Twitter is weird and fascinating to me, esp. where celebrity-esque people are involved. Hm.
How did you find that, flamom?
Oh, and we have a blog Twitter…
http://twitter.com/SiblingRevelry
I think those guys (GregG) have to know that once they start doing something like that, the fans will follow them as Twitter does not have a ‘friends only’ setting or anything. I don’t know…
And as to the boys’ negative reviews–pffft. Haters step to the left. I am trying to stay positive and enjoy reading the boys’ MySpace and FFE bulletins that they love us, appreciate us, and that the movie was for US. I have to believe that the boys don’t care about the negativity or else I will get really, really, really upset.
That’s my girl!! Tell ‘em to step to the left!!!
They are used to the negativity, and I know their faith really helps them.. I also know that they know that this comes with the territory.. hello, Columbia dropped them!!! I hope they (Columbia) are kicking themselves everyday!
Our boys are really good at being ducks, and letting it roll off their backs.
K, you are killin’ it with awesome metaphors today. “Ducks”, “umbrellas and rainboots” – awesome.
I think you can make a Twitter private…a friend of mind has a request-only Twitter, I have no idea how he did that.
It seems to me John Taylor is very happy fielding fans on his MySpace and stuff…maybe Greg is trying to get back into that too?
Twitter treads such a fine line between public and private that I find it kind of unsettling, figuring out what’s okay to follow and respond to, or not. You know?
And I agree with the last thing you said about the negativity Amanda…believing that is probably best for comfort.
I think that you can block people who are following you if you want- like, if they are someone you have never heard of and are being total creepers.
I found it! Go under settings at the top and at the bottom of the account tab, you can check to “protect my updates” so that only people you approve can follow your updates. Gosh I’m so smart.
I feel a little better now that I’ve slept on it. I was feeling very down and doubtful last night after reading several reviews and articles.
We know who the boys are and they know who their fans are- rain or shine, we will be there and so will they. Sure, in a few years, the fickle fans will start dropping off, and that is quite ok with me.
I hope the boys are able to ignore the ‘official’ numbers and see the reviews from their fans. I hope that they see how much we appreciate that they made this movie for us.
And, do we really think that is the real garbo and JT? Hmm I could easily see some creeper creating several fake accounts and coordinating them so that it seems legit. Oh who cares, I’ll follow them anyway and just hope it’s the real them. Hooray bulldozer!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’m pretty sure it’s them because they’re chatting with Mike Schmid (yay, we love Mike!), Kay Hanley (love her too) & Rob Hoffman…and those are accounts linked from/to their official blogs and other sites. So, yeah.
Hooray Bulldozer indeed!!! Molls. I am following them too what can it hurt..
Mememoi, thank you for the compliment.. I am sorry.. I tend to be a metaphoric person.. I hope it is not annoying.
No, it’s not annoying at all – I really meant it, I love a good metaphor. That sounds so dorky.
Oh, BTW, my cousin and I were sure to give Bulldozer lots of love during the movie. They got some cheers from my audience but I’m pretty sure we were the only ones screaming “YAY BULLDOZER!” and “NO WAY JOHN TAYLOR!”.
Oh an re:twittering, I have heard this is probably real, it’s just not revved up, promoted or in use yet.
http://twitter.com/JonasBrosMusic
Not sure…but if so, it won’t be “personal” per se like Demi Lovato’s (I actually like the way hers is done)…it’ll be more like SayNow, I would assume?
Ok, I bit…I am now 1 of 4 followers for JonasBrosMusic…
I too like Demi’s mememoi. I follow her… I added JonasBrosMusic… what the heck!!! It is fun!
Oh, and mememoi, I prefer this version of ‘Hero’…
http://video.qwaszx.org/view_youtube.php?id=13
lol! Check it out and vote for Danny for American Idol!
So, the only theater in Boise that’s showing the JB3DCE just HAPPENS to be across the street, literally seconds from the Costco where I work…so after work last night, my car actually drove itself into the theater parking lot, lol.
I was one of about 30-35 in the theater (I was trying to count in the dark). At least 10-15 little kids. NO ONE clapped or sang along (except for me!) to my knowledge. I really want to go to a fuller showing where people are getting into it!! But if I go during the week, when the kids are in school, I know it won’t be that way. Sigh. At least I gave the boys 6 tickets worth this weekend.
love it Amanda!!!
so glad you went again.
I was thinking the same thing-I’m going to go alone at least once thie week (to the Zeigfield where they had the Camp Rocl premiere and it has a huuuge screen)
BUT will I be the only one there?
can’t wait to hear about flamom’s solo show.
Yeah, I wonder the same thing about dwindling attendance. LBF wants to go again (we were supposed to repeat last night and I decided not to, because of the storm arriving), and I told her maybe next weekend!
I liked seeing it with 3 other people. I would not have minded being alone. I could finally hear the dialogue. I loved when Joe said “I paid for the car with my credit card!” and when BR said “Go, save yourselves!” Very funny. And the breakfast was hilarious of course. I never understood any of the lines before other than “peach jelly?” LOL
Obviously it is fun whichever way, but seeing the whole audience get into it was really gratifying in our sold-out show (Friday night) and the less sold-out ones, too. Seeing the fans down in front all on their feet…It just makes you grin.
That’s why we did both shows on Friday. We got the full experience at the first one….people singing and clapping (although we weren’t allowed to leave our seats or even stand for that matter). Screaming and everything….it was so fun. But it was so nice at the 11:00 show to have it quieter and to be able to hear the dialogue and really take everything in without being distracted. I’m glad it was in that order, too.
At the theater we went to on Saturday, they had the huge cardboard thing outside the entrance- of the boys getting off the plane. We took our picture next to it. We also took our picture next to the poster outside- where they have posters of all the movies playing at the theater. We were lucky that it was at our level and not up high
Oh and we got the JONAS posters!
I’m replying to myself- oops- but I hung it in my closet underneath my Rolling Stone Cover poster.
Whoever came up with the idea of putting the posters in the closet is a genius.
That is so cool moll!!! You should put the pics on FB so we can see them!!
lol @ posters in closets.
we took a ton of pictures of the scrolling marquee that said JB 3D-it just looked cool.
I have to take credit for that. But I’m not sure I’d call it genius. No, I definitely would not.
By the way, I have to change out my closet posters. I’m tired of the current ones LOL.
yea our Friday show also rocked and I was so happy when my daughter ran down the aisle and went wild because she never has anyone to share her JB love with.
besides me but I don’t really count.
and we will probably see it again next weekend too.
But I’m confused, will it continue to play beyond that?
also the MSNBC analyst (yes my husband is home) was surprised at the #2 finish but said “It is NOT the Jonas Brothers-it’s that fact that it was a 3 D movie.”
still not sure what she meant but t was a nice to hear some support.
The movie just makes me grin, mememoi, no matter what. I left the theater yesterday with a huge smile on my face, and I smiled as I passed the 4 theater workers standing there, brooms and trashcans at the ready…
I smile at Joe & Kevin’s bare skin, I smile at the frightening birds pecking the screen, I smile at Nick on the drums (actually I drool at Nick on the drums), I smile at Kevin nodding at the camera, I smile at Garbo sharing the mic with Nick, I smile at John Taylor sharing his mic with Kevin, I smile at Ryan, everytime, when he plays the opening notes to the concert, etc. etc. etc. How can you not?!
Yes Amanda! Great observations….I loved it all!
I’m glad y’all liked the blog… It didn’t get very prominent placement on HuffPost, compared to, say, the negative Associated Press review that the site also ran, so I’m glad you latched onto it. I was expecting to get some negative responses from the haters, but I don’t know if none of them saw it or they were just too exasperated to comment. But if the “pro” replies that are on the page now are from any of you, thank you again…
Thank you for giving all of us something to cheer about and for seeing what we see.. It is nice to know we are not alone.. And to all haters we say… Step to the left!
No, thank you! You said it better than any of us could have. And thanks to mememoi for bringing it to our attention.
yes mollyanne- thanks to mememoi for bringng it to our attention.
yes many of us gave you the positive feedback you so deserve. I’m ctmini27
The article meant a lot to us. You said what we’ve been trying to say for some time now.
And can I add it’s kind of a thrill that you’re actually here.
Can we look forward to more of your insight?
Thank you, Mr. Willman for having the insight to listen through the miasma of hype and Disney-backlash to hear what is the Jonas Brother’s gift: their music.
We fans who have been around the block of experience cannot wait to see what these young men create as they continue to mature and delight.
Thanks for lighting a candle!
Yeah, I’ll echo everyone’s gratitude to you here, Chris.
It certainly was buried…it didn’t come through on alerts, I only found it myself because some kind soul posted it to Nikki Finke’s Deadline Hollywood Daily (I subscribe) report on the diminished box office projections with the comment “The kids are all right.”
What can I say…it doesn’t seem to be a common human trait to stand up in the face of backlash and disapproval.
So thanks again.
(And I was LizzyTish.)
Hi Chris, just got to compliment you on using “kvetchers” in the article. Too funny.
Since I am stuck at home today… (Muttering swear words) I will share it with all of you!!!
Amanda you are so right… how can you not smile, and anyone who needs to smile should see this movie..
I melt a bit more each time any of them play to the camera.. and seeing Joe & his arms & his skin & his everything in 3D just makes me turn to goo!! I have more to say but for now I will stop rambling…
no keep rambilng.
you know we love it.
One of my favorite scenes was the fans shouting
“move that truck”
It cracks me up, just the look on the drivers face.
Loved that one too… poor Fedex guy…
I have to say, one of my favorite moments was during the “Play My Music” montage when they do that closeup of Joe singing his line….swooon…
That, and Kevin’s rock and roll face, “hey bebeh” look, grab at the camera, his “video girl” solo, that little kick thing he does off the edge of the catwalk, jumping up and down on their way to TS for their album release, jumping on the ramp…
all good, and my sister came out and declared Kevin her favorite.
for all of those reasons.
Cool merry, obviously taste and discernment run in your family!
oh yeah we’ve got taste!!
at least where the JBs are concerned.
Not so sure about anywhere else
But boy did that movie do a great job showcasing Kevin and his talents.
love it
Here here cpaig. What WASN’T there to love about Kevin in the movie? As far as I’m concerned, him looking into the camera often is a gift, just more opportunities for me to be thrilled!
Yes! I think I shouted “Look at his curls!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”.
And I loved when at some point, they were all at the end of the catwalk singing and playing and Kevin turns around and runs the length of the catwalk back up to the stage with his fist in the air. Ahhhhhhh!
I can’t get over Joe’s reaction in the car to seeing all of the people in TS for the album release. He looked like a little kid who just couldn’t be any more excited about something. So endearing.
I totally agree with everything you said, and as a smile bursts across my face I have to say that I screamed and mumbled something excitedly when I saw the Kevin dance in SOS! I was sooooooo excited!!!
That “Hey Bebeh” look does me in every time!!! I too loved the jumping on the ramp, just too much excitement to contain… Love it!!!
I just love to see how giddy and excited they get.. Their joy is pure and contagious; you cannot help but be effected by it….
Random Story… some friends came to visit me on Saturday night and they took me out to Red Lobster for dinner.. Well they hate JB and felt the need to make fun of them every chance they got.. I snapped on them.. Any hoo… the point of this story is out table was lose and it kept turning, so randomly my friend’s boyfriend started shaking it. I died laughing!!! Of course I could not tell them why, but I instantly felt like I was at breakfast with Joe.
*Sigh*
lol-hope you did an “after shock” !!
see the jbs can cheer us up anytime.
I am here in the theatre and there are 4 of us total.
who are the other 4?? any WTD potential?
enjoy and we look forward to hearing more.
er, WDT that is.
I did not get to “meet” them. They were young though. They came in right as it was starting. It was just those 3 girls and me.
I am excited! I love my boys!
Have fun Flamom!
Moll, I love your gravatar…
Why thank you!
Mer~
I didn’t because they are lame.. but I really wanted to!!!
well at least you got to smile about it.
they do sound lame BUT we all have friends like that.
so in the USA Today article it mentions that they have filmed 20 out of 22 episodes for Jonas.
sweet.
They are almost done and can get back to the cd and concerts.
Did you also see they added a date in Paris in June?
I wonder why they are releasing dates one at a time like that. It doesn’t exactly say “world tour” but maybe these are warm ups? Or connected to the movie release overseas?
I would guess movie releases… but what do I know.. LOL
I think so too. I think they will be in the US in teh summer as Mama J indicated, but they will be flying over the ocean every so often for movie premieres/promotion.
Hey guys, I’m back!!
I missed you all! Had a great time and I have so much to say (omg the movie & the soundtrack! And my God those 10-year-olds in the theatre nearly made me deaf… They were screaming before, during AND after the movie. One girl kept screaming “I love the Jonas Brothers” in the parking lot and a group of girls chanted SOS all the way to their car… It was INSANE.)
ANYWAY, I want to read all of your comments and posts (I feel so out of it, I have no idea what’s happened in the Jonas world…) and then we’ll talk! Brace yourselves… Whether you want it or not, I need to talk to someone about the movie. My parents didn’t really contribute much to the conversation… I would say “I really loved -insert scene here-, what did you think?” and their answers would be something like “Mhmhmhmn uh-huh!”. Mom thought Nick was cute (I think the exact word was “cutie”… Tell me about it, Mom!) but both her and my stepdad thought that Joe’s “a bit of a diva”. I tried to explain that that’s just the way he’s on stage, but I don’t know if I got through to them… Obviously they don’t have a clue. My stepdad was impressed with Kevin’s guitar playing. : )
Oh my gosh, I was supposed to just say hi, but you know me… Always babbling! Lol. Bear with me!
E!!!!
HI!! YAY! Okay I am going to settle down now, but just know you were missed and I will blab with you all you want.
Elisa, I think when they say Joe is a diva, they mean because he is so pretty. It’s not like he acts spoiled or selfish, you know?
Oh I wish they had meant that!
ELISA! HI! We missed you so much and welcome back! Cannot WAIT to hear your take on the movie…….now get to reading all of these posts/comments!
Welcome back Elisa!
I think we all feel as if we have been banging our heads against brick walls in terms of discussing JB with non fans lately, so talk away – we understand.
LOL I look like I pushed my way to the front of the line to reply to Elisa… sorry all, I am still figuring out this new comment thing..
Thank you for the warm welcome! Molly, how was your trip?
I’m working my way through everything (man, I missed a lot!) but I just had to come and comment on the Moviefone thing right away… Oh my goodness! I couldn’t stop laughing. Joe and Nick’s bike trip….. LOL. “Do we really talk like that?”. And Kevin getting a text… “Obviously, Kevin can’t live without his phone.” “SORRY!”. And Joe’s “Pirate’s life” story. He’s totally right, you know – I have no idea what’s sung in the verses, I only remember the “Pirate’s life for me” parts.
The whole thing was just hilarious and adorable and you know, real. Of course, you already knew that, but I just had to state the obvious!
And on one of the threads (I think it was the Bulldozer one) you were talking about Jonas haters and, well… Let’s just say that Chelsea Handler and her obnoxious guest got me in a really bad mood one night in FL. I made the mistake of watching Chelsea Lately for a couple of minutes and Hellsea and her guest (some annoying scottish actress, never heard of her and don’t remember the name… And don’t care to know it, either) were making fun of the Boys. I was in SUCH a bad mood the entire night and I couldn’t get her comments out of my head. It was crazy, it’s like I actually knew the Boys and she had insulted my friends… She really got to me! How stupid is that? I mean, Chelsea Handler, who hasn’t accomplished anything worth mentioning in her life and makes a living of making fun of others is obviously not someone whose opinion matters. She’s just so damn annoying!! But I guess that’s her main goal in life, to irritate people…
Hehe, and the length of my rant shows just how much the woman bugs me.
LOL! Oh Elisa, how we missed you!
My trip was wonderful, although much too short! I got my warm weather and sunshine though, and got to lay by the pool with my book.
How was yours? What fun things did you do down there? (Besides go to wal-mart of course
)
LOL@ Chelsea Handler….I have no idea why she gets her own talk show. Man, her and Perez should team up and really make peoples’ lives miserable…..oh wait, they already do on occasion. UGH.
Elisa,
It is okay to go Ninja on some folks… She is beyond annoying, and I would have felt the exact same way.. It is sad when you have nothing better to do than tear people down.. She needs o get over herself!
Lol, Perez + Chelsea = Team Misery.
Aw, Molly, your vacation sounds lovely, and, actually a lot like mine! And I have to say that my vacation was way too short, too. It was NOT nice coming back to the snow and freezing weather.
In addition to sunbathing (I totally got that CR beach towel, btw! Lol) and Wal-Mart-ing (ohh, heaven) we went to Everglades (?) and saw a lot of alligators (scaaaary) and birds and turtles etc., that was a lot of fun. And then there was The Movie. (That one requires a comment of its own). A LOT of shopping. I went a little overboard and spent 800 dollars. Oops. I… Bought the Bonus Jonas Edition and watched the DVD. It was just as lovely as you all said! Made me love them a little bit more again. (You’d really think that’d be impossible by now but nope, guess not!). I really hope it works on my computer. I also got hooked on Disney Channel and developed a major crush on David Henrie. Lol! But MAINLY I was on the beach and shopped. Or ate. I ate a lot. American food is so good!
I’m about to watch the Live Chat now, I’m pretty excited!
Btw, Mememoi – http://siblingrevelry.files.wordpress.com/2009/02/usatodayfab09.jpg Thank you! Loooove the pic.
P.S. You should know that I haven’t slept in 30 hours. I’m a bit hyper!
Wow! Sounds like one heck of a vacation- I always eat too much on vacation too. And for some reason, I will only drink orange juice when I’m in Florida….it’s so good down there. When I think about it here at home, all I can think about is how it tastes after you brush your teeth. Ewww.
I’m glad you had fun! You sound like a fun shopping buddy! And yay for the Bonus Jonas DVD! Isn’t it just the best?!
And LOL @ the Disney Channel. It’s strangely addicting to me too.
Elisa
Welcome back!!!
lol @ David Henrie-probably the only reason to watch that show.
Looking forward to hearing all about your trip. It sounds like a great time.
And don’t worry about CH -no one likes her.
LOL Elisa you are killing me… $800 shopping… we could totally shop together.
I am so glad you had a good time.. I have been to the Everglades it is fun!
What is your favorite American food???
I’ve heard great things about visiting the Everglades…I was surprised. I really wanted to go until last night when I watched this show on Animal Planet about giant snakes and how people are letting loose their pythons or constrictors or something in the Everglades and they are getting huge and eating crocodiles. Gah!
yay for shopping! Thanks for helping to boost our ecnomy.
Eww, Molly, crocodile-eating snakes? Ugh! I’m glad I didn’t see any snakes, big or small.
My favourite American food… Pizza (pepperoni) and Krispy Kreme donuts. Mmmm! And cookie dough ice cream.
Haven’t watched the whole live chat yet, but I just have to say that Nick has the cutest handwriting. He’s such a guy!
Joe’s monkey song! “Wouldn’t that be in the jungle?” “Oh”, and then he started over. Lol.
And Joe pushing Nick’s head down because his hair was in front of the big math problem. I don’t know why, but I thought that was really cute.
Welcome home Elisa!!
My eyes perked up at the mention of Krispy Kreme’s! They are a southern invention and I never get tired of them! I hope you had one that was hot and fresh!
Lol, Merry… Oh, the sacrifices I do for your country! I really did all that shopping out of the goodness of my heart.
Oh no, Joe, you didn’t just bring up HS…
LOL! Don’t worry the tiny one doesn’t pop up out of nowhere. That’s the only HS reference in the entire chat I believe. I thought of you instantly when he mentioned it…”Oh I can’t wait to hear what Elisa has to say about that.”
OHH, now I get it! So, there was this group of 13-year-olds in front of us when we went to see the movie, and one of the girls seemed to be like “the leader”, she was the first one there and then sort of welcomed all her friends to their seats, and then urged them to stand up (yeah, thanks for blocking my view!) when SOS started playing… So she was the “Theatre captain”. Ooooookay.
Nick checking his bloodsugar was cute.
Haha, Molly, you know me too well.
haha! Did you see the pictures from this weekend of Joe in GLASSES? They’re over at Just Jared Jr I believe…..the press conference in Austin, TX maybe?
Wow.
“Twitter (or did he actually say more like “tweeter”? haha) or twotter or whatever that new thing is…” LOL! Oh, I totally forgive Joe for the little HS reference, because everything else he says is so hilarious
NO! I’m still watching the live chat but I will check that out right away… I believe the “wow”!
Wait…
Boys on access hollywood tonight… Please no one miss it!!! ♥
It’s on at 12:30 pm tomorrow for me but I will be at the 3D Concert Experience with my BFF! Oh well – let me know what happens!
Ok, wow is right. Hellooo, Professor Jonas.
Oh that’s cool, K! And if I was still in America, I’d be able to watch it. Hmph. I want to go back.
I am so sorry friend!!! I shall watch it for us both…
I was thinking so many intelligent things to say this morning on the way to the theater but of course I forget them all now.
I guess what I want to say is that it does not matter what people say about the Jonas Brothers. People are going to rip them apart because it is so much easier to tear apart someone else who is doing right, than it is to do right yourself. And if you don’t want to take the time and effort and fortitude to do right, well, it bothers you that other people DO. So you destroy them. This is true since the beginning of all time; before the Jonas Brothers and after.
So when you support the Jonas Brothers, you know you are going against a large portion of society and there is nothing wrong with it – in fact, many times that means you are on the right side. Sometimes the right side -IS the smaller side. Majority usually takes the “feel good” or “live and let live” position and not the tough and hard-to-live-out position.
I also think their age and the Disney thing is going to work against them in some ways. But … it’s going to work FOR them in other ways. For instance, right now they are ALL OVER the place. So we get them nightly on TV, on the Internet, on the radio, in the movies, etc. We should enjoy that (as we are doing!).
Because that is not going to be forever. At some point, they will grow older and be independent and they will probably not scattershot their projects, and take longer on the CDs and movies or books or other projects. We will see new material less often and they will have less exposure.
That will also be enjoyable in its way, a different way. It’s still great joy for me when Great White has new material out and recently Depeche Mode, U2 and Hanson have new material out. Someone out there (many someones) are still big fans of those groups and they are still making music. For those fans. The Jonas Brothers will make music for us for many many years – we know they love it, and we know Nick lives for it so we can count on it. That has zero to do with Disney.
At that point they won’t be attracting new young fans but they’ll be keeping some of the young fans they had, they’ll have us and they will pick up newish/youngish fans along the way.
They still might be huge – I hope so – there are lots of groups with huge careers throughout and they are as good as those guys. But if they’re not, that’s OK too.
And it is of no importance how Hannah Montana’s 3D movie did vs. theirs. If Hannah Montana did not have a 3D movie then what would we compare the earnings to? Hannah Montana is a fictitious character and the TV show is ending this year. No one will remember her (a la Lizzie McGuire) in a year or two.
Whereas the Jonas Brothers movie is first in hopefully a history of movies and concert DVDs.
Anyway, those are some of my recent thoughts.
It should not be embarrassing to like the Jonas Brothers – yes they are good boys and that is a good thing, not a bad thing. And yes they are young but pop music is usually best created by the young. And it’s not a crime to enjoy it even if you’re someone who has a concert shirt older than Joe Jonas.
All absolutely true, flamom, so well put and important to remember.
flamom all true and well said. As usual.
It’s such a great point about Hannah Montanna being a fictional character-one that Miley Cyrus clearly wants to distance herself from.
It remains to be seen if Miley on her own without her show can continue to grow with her fans.
Never a problem for the JBs. They are who they are.
Flamom, you made me cry!!! I mean that in the best possible way…
I’M YOURS!
Sorry, Flamom, I’m watching the Live Chat and I just freaked out a little…
You’re absolutely right. You always manage to organize your thoughts so well! I completely agree but don’t really have anything to add because you said it so well.
And now I’m reading your comments about the chat and Flamom is speaking wise words there as well: “And why does Nick have to look so cute all. the. time.”
I know!
Better late than never – WELCOME BAAAACK!
Well ladies, I had a private showing for the movie today at 1:00pm EST. I now know without a doubt what I had heretofor only suspected: my town is full of smug, pretentious types who don’t know how to have fun.
But SO WHAT? I did the Revelers proud all by my lonesome, sang loudly, and had a blast. It was even better the second time around!
Assuming my couch cushion change searches and household buget can stand the strain (who needs lunch anyway?) I will try to go every day this week.
And I’m just waiting for some overzealous employee to comment on my repeat attendance. I’d love an excuse to set someone straight, lol!
You GO Coolmom!!!!
wait you were the only one there????
coolmom that is way cool.
you rule.
I love the every day plan! such a great idea.
Coolmom, I have now been 3x to the same theater, same row, same seat…and the ticket seller girl was all, “…do you need ANOTHER pair of 3D glasses?!” lol
I look forward to Access Hollywood. Thanks for reminding us K!
AH is also the only entertainment show that didn’t post the Rhianna pictures and won’t report on the Octuplets’ mom so that is cool.
Happy to help Merry, and p.s. I wrote you back.
wow-you’re fast!! looking forward to it.
there’s a couple of gems in this interview:
aside from the pictures
http://omg.yahoo.com/blogs/crush/jetsettin…4S0Ppxx.;_ylv=3
merry, is it me or is there something amiss with this link? I get a page saying the page has been moved.
oops sorry-It can still be found under the Blog section after you click on the link
“jet setting with eth Jonas Brothers”
I just watched the Barbara Walters interview, and I thought it was incredibly awkward. The Boys handled it well, but it’s just that the questions were so (in Mememoi’s words) lame! I mean, EVERYBODY knows what the rings signify… And the whole Miley thing… Argh! I hate it when journalists waste precious time by asking the same (mostly irrelevant) questions over and over again, when so many people would give anything to have the opportunity to actually talk to the Boys about something that really matters, and ask them NEW questions. Possibly even about their music and career, not just their personal lives. Making the person you’re interviewing feel uncomfortable isn’t the only way to make a serious and “deep” interview.
Merry – I would LOVE to see the movie without all the screaming! It was so annoying, I missed most of the adorable breakfast scene because the girls were screaming so loud that I couldn’t hear what the Boys were saying in the beginning… Really frustrating! And what was funny was that it seemed like the screaming girls weren’t really singing along that much (except for SOS and BU), they were more into the whole “I love you Nick” and “ohmygodnickinatanktop” screaming thing. I totally sang along, every word, and LOUD of course, but only squeed on the inside. And smiled like an idiot the entire time.
I’m pretty sure that there will be NO screaming in a Finnish movie theatre, so I’m excited to see it again here! But I’ll have to wait till April… Boo! But of course I am happy that I got to see it, hearing damage or no. The movie was awesome, and I honestly didn’t stop talking about it for two days. I can’t wait to have it on DVD!!
I’m only getting started here… I still want to talk about the soundtrack (oh <3) and my favourite parts of the movie, but that will have to wait till tomorrow, because it’s almost 2.30 am… And I haven’t slept in two days. And I have a school thing in the morning.
OH and I didn’t even remember to mention that I really hated how she went on and on about Nick’s diabetes! I know that he has been very public about it, but still it can’t be the easiest thing to talk about… And I felt like she was really trying to milk the pitty cow there.
End rant!
Oops, and I was talking to coolmom, not Merry. (there’s that sleep deprivation for you!)
Btw, coolmom, how was your trip?
No prob, elisa. Yes indeedy it was very quiet in my theatre today, except when I was singing or gasped with joy at Kevin’s sweaty chest!
Thanks for asking, my trip was GREAT! The weather couldn’t have been more perfect: warm, sunny, the kids could swim most days. Super relaxing and rejuvenating – exactly what I need to get over the winter blahs!
Coolmom, I love that you just said gasped over Kevin’s sweaty chest… something about it makes my heart smile!!!
A.H. Great times.. lots of Joe in glasses.. They deserve a thank you note!!! also, the Brian Williams thing at the end. Hilarious.. he gets a high five.
**Side note,
Joseph Adam Jonas~
If you happen to google yourself and stumble upon this please wear your glasses more often. We really like them on you!! ♥**
there’s a new post !!!
but K, how lucky is Maria M?
And that was Jared they were playing moods with.
It looks fun.
Joe-agreed. Your glasses are awesome (drink! green tea!)
Joe in glasses….I seriously needed my beta blocker after seeing that! Mmmm!!
I replied to your earlier post, but in case it gets lost, welcome home Elisa!
Amanda – too funny about the 3D glasses! LOL!!!
Coolmom – so great you were able to see it all alone. That’s what I’m hoping for this week myself (well, not totally alone – I’ll have my daughter) but we can both squee at Kevin’s sweaty chest together!
Aww, man, I missed the AH thing. I’ll have to hunt it up….
Hi SRs,Its my 20th birthday today.I got some awesome gifts:
-HSM3 on DVD

Back to Jonas,I got my tickets for Wembley Arena, not bad seats.I’m at the front of the back tiers(if that makes any sense!).Welcome back Elisa!
I wish I could see the movie, damn May 29th:( Hope everyone had a great Jonas weekend.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Becky!!!
*balloons, streamers, confetti*
Happy Birthday!! WOOOOOOOOT!
Hope you have an awesome day and enjoy your gifts!!
Happy, happy birthday, Becky!! Awesome gifts, your family is so cool!
And I am totally jealous of your concert tickets, but very happy for you at the same time. Wish I could go!
And btw, I just have to say that you Brits are the friendliest people… We had a connecting flight from London and everyone at the airport was just so NICE. Plus I love the British accent. One woman, who checked my passport, sounded EXACTLY like Kate Winslet and she told me that my picture was lovely. It’s not (it looks like a mug shot, lol) but it was sweet of her to say that.
Anyway, hope your birthday has been wonderful!
