OMJ – I have to squee a little bit, because I am SO exited about the 51st Annual Grammy Awards which will air tonight at 8pm EST on CBS with Live From the Red Carpet: The 2009 Grammy Awards airing on E! from 5pm EST until the beginning of the show.
I am not just excited because the Guys are nominated for Best New Artist (and I hope they win), but also for their performance, with Stevie Wonder! I am excited because they are excited. I am excited for a great night of music. Whether they go home with the award tonight or not, I think they feel pretty great about this whole Grammy Awards thing, and so do I.
Here is hoping they bring the house down!

Lol, K, funny you should mention CR… I just watched it – dubbed in SWEDISH! It was pretty awful. Seeing Joe open his mouth and hearing a really weird Swedish voice come out is quite bizarre. But I couldn’t find the motivation to study any other way, so… I got creative. Lol. All I remember is that Mitchie’s mom kept saying “älskling” (dear) in a really annoying way.

I watched the performance with some friends – my friend’s TV was pretty small with poor sound, but I thought JB rocked it! I felt bad for Nick at the slip up of words.
Drove home (and missed the New Artist award – but I’m taping it all anyway) and have been watching everything on my TV. Yeah Neil Diamond! And I’m a band geek, so I loved the USC marching band with Radiohead.
Just rewatched the video of JB’s performance online again – the camera didn’t zoom in on JB much. And what’s with them standing around Stevie all the time? I’m guessing that the boys were encouraged to do that. It looked a little weird to me.
Oh, I loved the “Four Tops” song (with Ne-yo and Jamie Foxx for the 2 deceased members.) Great job.
I liked the horns to, Barbara. I have been hoping to see JB with some horns.
most of the acts have been really good-I thought the Radiohead thing was cool and the Four Tops tribute and Neil Diamond of course.
But I can’t see Joe in the coral tee in the front row any more. Did they move/change?

As you said, merry, most of the acts have been really good. The ones I saw on my friend’s TV I can’t really judge on – the sound and picture were weak/poor, so I couldn’t really judge!
I loved the horns on Burnin’ Up. Very Earth Wind & Fire’ish vibe, very funky.
I’m guessing that they were told to go by Stevie, because Stevie can’t move, and otherwise there wouldn’t be any shots of him with the boys. Stevie can’t interact with them if he can’t hear them, and he can’t hear them unless their close by.
I thought they did an awesome job. And you could tell how thrilled they were to be there.

I am sad but I am thrilled for how amazing (drink up) the boys were during their performance with Stevie. It was all I could have ever hoped for. They were all amazing. Joe on bongos, Garbo was rocking, I didn’t see John Taylor? Gotta watch again.

Barbara – I think there was definitely a camera problem during their set….either a malfunction or just bad direction. For some reason they all seemed to have to rush to that one spot on the stage by Stevie. But they made it work, as always. I felt like I was never looking at what I wanted to see (only the obliquest shot of Joe on the conga drums?! Unacceptable!

Seriously, it doesn’t bother me much that they didn’t win Best New Artist. I mean, I’m bummed, but the performance makes up for it x50! haha. They should be proud. It was sososo good. I loved the arrangement of “Burning Up” with the horns. Stevie calling back and forth with the guys was so cute. I was smiling the entire time, they all looked so happy.

I noticed Joe fix Stevie’s mic too, that was cute. Stevie definitely is a DT, no doubt! I’m so glad they were able to collaborate, and I know just getting to work with him would have been the highlight of their evening even if they had left there with a Grammy.

You know, I just keep learning the same lesson over and over this week about celebrities – we just don’t know what is going on. No matter how much we see and how much they let us in, we don’t know the half of it.

flamom, I agree – we only “know” what celebrities want us to know (usually until something is too wrong too hide, unfortunately). It is showbiz after all, and it is a crazy scene. I think any speculation into celebs’ private (and especially romantic) lives is a futile exercise, so I try to avoid it myself. You just gotta hope for the best for the ones you love and support.

Well, after working til 1 am I was delighted to find a tape of the grammy’s waiting for me on my kitchen table. So i fast forwarded through all the junk straight to the performance and I literally sat in shock the entire time. It was amazing, and they looked pretty good too, (joe’s hair was pretty amazing, along with those arms!)
Even though they didn’t win, I really do think that this whole experience may have helped more people take them seriously.
*sigh* I love Fabruary, and I can’t wait til tuesday!

I just watched the performance again… Still loving it! I have to ask – was Jailbait trying to break some kind of a sexiness record? I mean, the plain white t-shirt, the leather jacket, his guitar antics AND vocals in Superstition – I’m sure there was a room full of newly converted Fanladies by the end of the performance.
And re. Joe’s bling – I actually found it really sexy!
As well as his outfit… I always appreciate anything that will allow us to admire those arms. ♥
I also watched M and TS’s performance. Blah. It was obvious that Miley’s voice is about a million times stronger than T’s, but she did look like she was trying way too hard. Like she was trying to show her new “BFF” that she really is the better singer. Lol! I have to say that this is the first time I’ve seen an ok live performance from TS. Usually she’s sooooo bad. This was a good song choice for her, because she doesn’t exactly have the strongest voice.
I still love the song. I just wish it wasn’t written by someone who’s so damn annoying!
P.S. There was a Finn among the Grammy winners! Yay. Best Instrumental Soloist(s) Performance (With Orchestra): Hilary Hahn, Schoenberg, Sibelius: Violin Concertos (Esa-Pekka Salonen, conductor). Not exactly the most fascinating category, but still… Pretty cool for us.

As usual, thefirst people to speak up people are pretty polarized on their performance. (What?! Really?!) Sigh. Preconceived notions are a pretty heavy thing to shake off I guess!! But I have seen a couple of positive mentions, so that is good – if it’s healthy criticism I can suck it up but haters need to move to the left quickly before I can reach them with my smacking hand…before I go back to not caring what they think.

Man alive, they were all so ON last night. Loved Kev’s outfit and red guitar! He was rocking out as usual…it was totally awesome. Molly, I wish I could relax, but no, I’ve got English tomorrow and French on Wednesday (these are all listening comprehension tests). But THEN I’ll get to relax! I don’t think Ryan Seacrest was drunk. I think he is just a jerk. He is that kid in the schoolyard who kisses butt or mocks people (depending) so that the rest of us can ooh and ahh or laugh and laugh. Not very noble. I couldn’t even look at the screen during the Paula Abdul segment. I covered my eyes; it was shameful.

It’s an old BBC radio interview, I’m sure you’ve all heard it! It’s so funny… I kept laughing the entire time. I loved it when they were talking about being recognized in England and whether it’s nice to be able to walk around like normal people for a change, and then Joe’s like “Sometimes it’s nice, sometimes you really want to be spotted and be like, ‘NOTICE ME!’” and then Kevin says “He means when he sees a girl!” Hahaha.
Oh, sometimes studying is such hard work.
I just watched the Grammy performance again. It was a little rough I guess. It seems like it could have used some more polishing and rehearsal – to make it flow better. Stevie and the guys seemed to enjoy each other but they needed more time to gel I think.
I have never loved Nick more than when he flubbed that line and he shut his eyes and you can see exactly how he is feeling. I just felt like – poor Nicky, poor boy! My heart really broke for him. (and I love him a LOT) I just want to reach through the TV and squeeze him tight.
It’s probably not as bad as falling and cutting your hand open though. LOL
These kinds of experiences are great for keeping humble and helping them grow. They are only kids after all and they are doing all these grownup things.
And Nick really looked good – he had such a different vibe going than usual, I loved it.
BTW Kevin fans, my DD really enjoyed Kevin dancing all around Stevie – she thought it was adorable. Kevin was the most non-freaking-out Jonas Brother last night. Joe and Nick were both strung pretty tight!
I don’t think the performance was rough – it was different – and it is always jarring when they abbreviate a song and then have to transition into a new one.
I liked it. I think they should be proud.
Flamom, I felt exactly the same way when Nick messed up the lyrics… I just wanted to give him a hug! Or two.
Oh, and I thought that the performance was awesome! A bit rough around the edges, maybe, but I think that’s what made it so unbelievable. It was so real, and you could feel their excitement – which might not have been the case if it had been overly practiced and planned from the beginning to the end.

My computer crashed on Saturday and I spent all afternoon with tech support getting it wiped clean and then reformatted. Since I couldn’t get on the computer yesterday, I watched the Grammy red carpet on E! (annoyed that JB weren’t interviewed but glad they didn’t talk to Seacrest) and then all of the Grammys. My thoughts:
The Jonas Brothers and Stevie Wonder hit it out of the park!! They sounded fabulous together. Nick was so cute (and quick to fix it) when he made his mistake. We’re all human, Nick.
Miley Cyrus’ and Taylor Swift’s voices don’t sound good together. They have such different sounding voices that it was jarring to hear one after the other. They are both talented, but girls, don’t sing together again!
What a shame about Chris Brown and Rihanna. My sister said that she felt sorry for her because the paps will probably be trying to take a photo of her bruised face. I feel sorry for her because she (not only got hit by her boyfriend) probably had picked out a lovely dress to wear and then didn’t get to go. I hope Rihanna sets an example for young girls everywhere and doesn’t go back to Chris Brown. If he hits you once, he’ll hit you again.
