It’s funny…when the Boys made their online appearance talking influences, one of the first things that sprung to mind afterward was…”But wherefore Stevie?” Maybe it was an intentional omission, because – as we all know by now – you make a Jonas wish and it doesn’t rain, but it pours. They’ll be performing with Mr. Wonder at the Grammy Awards ceremony this Sunday, and a network organizer (giving a report to the LA Times from rehearsals) had this to say regarding the pairing…
“The beauty of that,” said Jack Sussman, CBS’ executive VP for music specials, “is that Stevie is an icon that the Jonas Brothers look up to. He believes in them and their talent, and the audience will see that they are really good musicians, which they sometimes don’t get enough credit for. You have to give them props for walking out there with him.”
Oh, God. I hope so regarding the audience…and Stevie is a Discerning Type! YES – good news. And now I’ve got nerves!! Can’t wait. (I’d be crossing my fingers, but as the four lovelies at top there have been reminding us lately, superstition ain’t the way.)
More end of the week snippets, after the jump…
Stevie Wonder isn’t the only music hero or teen idol of yore the Boys were brushing elbows with this week (or at least being connected to in the media).
- The Boys attended the Neil Diamond MusiCares Person of the Year tribute ceremony, and opened the night by performing his song “Forever in Blue Jeans“. It looks like they played without their own band, no? (What do you think of the song choice?) Some of my fave shots below…
- Christopher Atkins (from Blue Lagoon!), currently promoting his role in a VH1 reality series, went to People Magazine to offer the Boys some vague/sage wisdom on navigating fame and life…very sweet, and I had actually read and agreed with this quote when I first read it in another context. Applied to the Jonases, I am not as sure…Atkins pursued an awfully different career path and lifestyle in his day! But he seems like a genuinely nice guy and he sure had some pretty hair and a stellar physique back in the day.
- Fresher-to-the scene artists were also talking up the Jonases this week: hip-hop’s “real pirate” Lil Wayne appeared on Letterman (in a more justly hilarious world the appropriate timestamp here would be 4:20, but you’ll find the JB mention at 1:29 here) and riffed on the mass admission that the Boys are adorable. I think this fact has been well-established across the board, so I am hoping more people follow country performer Dierks Bentley’s lead and start to admit what good music they make – check out his Jonas musings to EW’s Popwatch blog here. I love his emphasis on their vocal “bravado” and “moves”!!
More of this sort of props (instead of that usual backhanded kind), please!

Nice graphic Mememoi!
RE: Christopher Atkins – I do think the Boys have their feet on the ground as to the reality of the fleeting nature of fame – they have said so much – I think Joe said that is resolution was to continue to have a great year – but I think it has more to do with them feeling that they have so much to share with us, and they want to take the opportunity to really talk about issues that are important to them. And… the lagoon is so, so BLUE! Boat.
I think I see JT in the back in pic one – No? Where is Garbo, Jack, and Ryan????
Lil Wayne brought the lulz, and I am SO glad they are being given their props.
I can not express how excited I am for them and this opportunity!
I have had too much coffee…….
True re: the Boys sense of the reality of fame. But to be fair to the Boys, Chris Atkins blew his fame by being a Studio 54 party monster. So far the Jonases don’t seem in danger of derailing their career in that way!
I giggled a lot at the Christopher Atkins article. “Blue Lagoon” was totally my guilty pleasure the summer of 1980, when I was 16 going on 17. I paid hard earned baby-sitting money to ogle Chris in the theatre. Let me tell you, he was HAWT!!! lol.
I think that JB is far wiser than most former heartthrobs.
The LA Times piece was cool. Changing the perception of JB, one Discerning Type at a time.
I will confess to loving “Forever in Blue Jeans” when I was in high school. I loved Neil Diamond madly, one of my best friends also loved him and she played guitar. We would harmonize to Neil at all the Drama Club parties. “Red Red Wine” anyone? And our “Sweet Caroline” ROCKED!
I would have loved to see JB’s rendition, but am I splitting hairs to wonder if their wearing shiny three piece suits maybe was a bit of a juxtaposition?
Robert Plant is looking interesting …
Anyway, Forever in Blue Jeans – that is OK. I could have picked a better one to cover!
I have to go see the performance pics now …
they were seriously wearing those same clothes to perform in? Did Joe have to run out at the end to chair the board meeting? LOL!
Forever in Blue Jeans really should not be played in suit and tie. Yeah. I guess they couldn’t change though. What you gonna do.
flamom, I just got a visual of Joe chairing a Board Meeting. LOL!
You’re welcome Coolmom! Powerful image, right?
(or not)
Anyway, I want to know what Neil Diamond has to say about the Jonas Brothers … Also, he has such a sexy way of performing and it doesn’t matter how old he is either. He just keeps on keeping on. I hope they do that.
are we going to get YouTubes from this? Neil did You Don’t Bring Me Flowers with Faith Hill!!!!!!
http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/news/stars-salute-neil-diamond-at-musicares-event-1003939488.story
PS I LOVE “Pretty Amazing Grace” – has everyone heard it?
Neil is the man. No doubt.
I like this: “In a nod to Diamond’s sparkly duds of the ’70s, Kimmel told him he was “one of the few Jews who look good in sequins.”"
True dat!!!!
Oh my – I just read this: “Jonas Brothers kicked off the show with “Forever in Blue Jeans.”
“Aren’t they adorable?” host Jimmy Kimmel joked. “These kids wouldn’t even have sideburns if it weren’t for Neil Diamond.”"
That is pretty funny.
I love Joe in the pinstripes!! And I still prefer to think of him in the incarnation of the Professor. LOL.
From San Diego Union Tribune:
“BEST NEW ARTIST
Nominees: Adele, Duffy, The Jonas Brothers, Lady Antebellum, Jazmine Sullivan.
A victory in this category is often a professional kiss of death (as past winners Starland Vocal Band, Jody Watley and Debby Boone can attest). But no matter, because unless none of the Grammy voters are parents, the enormous commercial impact of teen-pop kings The Jonas Brothers makes this a slam-dunk, however belatedly (The Jonas Brothers’ first album came out in 2006).
Will win: The Jonas Brothers. Should win (just so she’ll go away): Duffy.”
This is fascinating!!!!
“Diamond says he stayed away from rehearsals so the show will be a surprise to him. He says he loves the idea of other people singing his songs and he let them choose whichever ones they wanted.”
I’m still not going for the people calling it for the Boys at the Grammys!! LOL. I am stubborn.
I think the most compelling stat I have read is how rarely the Best New Artist award has gone to someone who was NOT nominated (and won) in other categories (usually multiple). it has happened maybe 3 or 4 times ever, and one of those times was Milli Vanilli.
But believe me, I want you all to be telling me “Told you so!!” on Sunday night.
Newsday says this:
“Should win: Adele. The British singersongwriter’s debut “19″ showed loads of promise.
Will win: Duffy. Young singer sounding old is generally impossible to beat, but the Jonas Brothers may pull off an upset.”
I agree with that logic mememoi. I was just thinking how Jonas Brothers or ALBL could easily be the best pop album of the year. I wish they had been nommed a few times!
Me too, DANG IT.
Fresno Bee:
“Best new artist
Nominees: Adele, Duffy, Jonas Brothers, Lady Antebellum, Jazmine Sullivan.
Sizing up the field: Trimming this down to the knitty gritty, this, to me, is Adele versus Jonas Bros.
Another thing the Grammys like to do is appear to be young, hip and with it, which is why I’m thinking they’ll go Jonas here.
I’m also subscribing to the theories that Adele and Duffy will split some of the vote and that, since Amy Winehouse won last year, voters won’t want to give the award to a British soul/pop singer two years in a row.
Winner: Jonas Brothers.”
My heart is beating out of my chest now. An old lady just can’t take so much excitement. Neil Diamond and the Jonas Brothers. (and Robert Plant, but kind of remembering him in his 20s LOL)
St. Petersburg/Tampa Times;
this is hilarious:
“BEST NEW ARTIST: My close personal pals the Jonas Brothers are shoo-ins for best new artists. Why? Because this is the first Grammy show my 5-year-old wants to watch. Because the tween-poppers have garnered genuine artistic cred. Lady Antebellum and Duffy are good, but have you seen Nick’s hair?”
I have seen that hair, and it does deserve a Grammy.
I think if the Jonas Brothers DON’T win BNA, there should be a stipulation that whoever DOES win should have to drive Nick Jonas home, since he doesn’t drive.
This is our local paper (Sun-Sentinel)’s current poll results:
Best new artist
Adele (7 responses)
17.9%
Duffy (11 responses)
28.2%
Jonas Brothers (13 responses)
33.3%
Lady Antebellum (4 responses)
10.3%
Jazmine Sullivan (4 responses)
10.3%
* 39 total responses (Results not scientific)
I’m not even bothering to post reviews (even if they pick the JB to win!) from guys who just want to hate the Jonas Brothers/Disney/etc. and spit on them.
The people who use the reasoning that the JB will not win because they should have been nominated with an earlier CD – this does not make sense. Because if that reasoning affected the decision, they would not have been nominated. I mean, the people who nominated them are the ones who choose the winner, right? So if the nomination is made, then we can assume they meet the qualifications to actually WIN.
I am so nervous you’d think *I* was up for a Grammy! OMG, I’ll be a basketcase by tomorrow night!
Forever in Blue Jeans…I’ve got to hear this! Surely it will leak out eventually, right? RIGHT?! I have fond memories of listening to Neil Diamond on long car trips as a kid.
BTW, that pic at the top was my favorite of them from the event. Mmm, so handsome!
OH God, that picture….. Help! I haven’t been able to see any of the pictures (jonashq isn’t working for me again… not surprisingly) and that one is just beautiful. I loooooove Nick’s outfit. That’s it – I refuse to believe that he’s only 16. No 16-year-old boy looks like THAT. It’s just not possible! Especially now that I know that those Sprouse twins are 16.
And now, a confession… I had never heard a Neil Diamond song in my life until a few minutes ago. What can I say – I’m young! Ok, that’s no excuse… He’s a legend, and I’ve heard of HIM, I just hadn’t heard any of his songs. But I’ve listened FIBJ, Sweet Caroline, Red Red Wine and Pretty Amazing Grace now. I especially like PAG! There’s just something great about old music. I would love to hear the Boys’ version of FIBJ… I’m sure they rocked it!
And I’m so nervous about the Grammys, too! I’ve been thinking about it all day. I don’t know how I’m supposed to be able to sleep that night without knowing if they won or not…
What time does the show start?
*listened to
Yay, I got to see the pics, Nick J Online has them. You know… Sometimes Joe looks so beautiful that he doesn’t even look real. Those eyes!
One more thing, and then my Joenologue is over.

Mmmmmmmm.
Don’t miss Cracklin’ Rosie, America, I Am I Said, Solitary Man, Cherry Cherry, September Morn, and Love on the Rocks!
Oh yeah I downloaded that one earlier this morning Elisa! It’s yummy, huh?
I’m betting NIck sang Forever in Blue Jeans, at least most of it … I want to hear it!!!!!
Neil in Rolling Stone … do you love it or what??? I love the 70s.
Annie Leibowitz … not as risque in those days? or maybe because he was a grown man? LOL

Hi everyone!
I am so nervous for the Grammy’s I might throw up~
I want them to win so badly… I know I know we have to be happy they are nominated, and I am.. i just refuse to give up hope.
I feel as though I am missing out on great pictures I should have seen… What did I miss???
Elisa…
I may have just died… Thank you. ♥ He is just exquisite!! Can we use that term for a man???
Yea-great picture, great post.
oh the nerves are really starting to get to me a bit.
I really dislike Duffy, her voice just rubs me the wrong way and if she were to win I would not be happy.
I made the same point mememoi about how hard it is to win if you only have 1 nom. (Milli Vanilli was 1 example-yikes) but still…they so deserve it.
I love Cracklin Rosie and Sweet Caroline-those are my favorites.
That cover is a classic Flamom.
Coolmom I loved Chris Atkins too-he was a local NY suburban kid and it seemed like everyone knew someone who knew him. But nobody actually met him,
I actually love the Blue Lagoon, it’s on all the time at 2-3 am and the dialogue is bad but Brooke Shields was so pretty.
But the JBs are in such a different situation being brothers and musicians.
gah! I know there are Grammy more events tonight.
Okay… I am pulling up my big girl pants, and being woman enough to admit it… CB is beautiful! No, I don’t know her but there is something about her; I don’t think she is shady. However, if I am wrong it will be ninja in full force!!
Sorry i am all over the place today…
My gram and I have spent many hours rockin’ out to Neil Diamond! My friends stare at me when he comes on and I can sing along word for word.
I really enjoyed the DB article… He is on the road with BP… I bet the boys would enjoy catching that show!
K
well done re CB and I agree.
She looked really nice and appropriate last night.
But it’s weird the way they follow each other to events.
Thank you Merry.
We must love them enough to want them to love. Looking at the pictures I can see why he was crushin’ on her.
I think it is sad that they have to follow each other and they can’t just go together…. I can just imagine them gazing at each other from across the room. It has to be hard!
What was CB’s “reason” for being there, anyway? I don’t get it. Doesn’t she need a “cover story?” I mean, she is not sitting with him, not walking with him, not next to him. Do they meet in the stair well or something LOL? Seems dopey.
I think she is very exotic and uniquely beautiful. But last night her hair was all scraggly and I did not like it off her face. But rare miss for her! She is almost always very lovely.
yea I guess the only “reason” she was there was to support him and the same when he went to the Push premiere.
so celebs are weird/different.
I can’t imagine doing anything like that for any guy (uh, well maybe a JB).
Maybe Joe was hogging the flat iron Flamom? jk!
LOL Merry that is too funny.
I am sure she wanted to be there just to be with him.. I mean if you had a chance to gaze across the room, and see that face would you pass it up??
actually I guess it might be kind of awesome when you put it that way K……
Elisa, just for you, more “must listen” Neil Diamond classics:
Song Sung Blue
Holly Holy
Play Me
Cherry, Cherry
Shilo
Brother Love’s Traveling Salvation Show
Great 70’s pop rock. Totally my era. Love it!
BTW, the Grammy’s broadcast begins at 8:00pm EST.
Yeah, I think I could soldier through some chicken dinners if I got to gaze at my JB boyfriend!
Awesome… Yes, awesome indeed Merry. Drink up!
Coolmom,
It might cause me to stumble and choke on my chicken, but I am pretty sure I could too. *Sigh*
At least at Push, he sat next to her and left holding her hand, right?
actually I guess it could be almost respectful-she had her moment at the Push premiere and he was with his bros (where he belonged) last night.
So that could be part of it too.
But sit together. we can take it. If my daughter has accepted them (because they WILL break up so she actually feels she has a better chance of marrying Joe than CB) than they can go a bit more public.
yea for the awesome drinking game!! I saw some “awesome” brand paper towels today and cracked up.
Merry, I agree… she can sit next to her man and hold his hand… God knows we would!
I think she knows how fantastic he is. She just has to remember to represent for the rest of us fan ladies.
Merry, LOL did you buy them?? I probably would have.
Camilla Belle… Sigh. Yes, she is beautiful – so beautiful that she kind of makes me hate myself! – but I still don’t think she’s a good match for Joe. I’m being a total brat about this (I mean, I’m ACTUALLY jealous of her) but that’s just the way I feel. Of course, if she makes Joe happy, that’s all that matters. And I should try harder to like her. I mean, if Joe has chosen to be with her, she must be pretty ‘awesome’.
Coolmom, thanks for the song recommendations! I will get on those tomorrow. I love finding new music!
Btw, I was just watching a show about the 25 most memorable Grammy performances (as voted by viewers) and while watching I just kept thinking that, after this Sunday, there’ll probably be another performance to add on the list. Because, you know… Jonas Brothers AND Stevie Wonder – that is going to be epic. Can’t wait!
Elisa… you are beautiful so stop hating yourself right now!!
I wish I had a tivo because I know I am going to watch tomorrow night’s performance. GAH!! Okay, I I feel a bit better…
Ok, so I know I’m going to get flack for this but I was checking out Oceanup and there’s some awesome pics of the boys Grammy rehearsal there. Supposedly they are playing Burnin’ Up into Superstition???? Sorry I’ve strayed!!!!
Elisa….. STOP IT RIGHT NOW! Tha’t in my teacher voice for you.
elisa- you are so beautiful. I saw your photos today on FB. Come on! Joe would be the lucky one if he got to meet you. Your friend is also very pretty! Both of you have gorgeous hair.
I saw the photos on Kevin J Online and they were awesome. Kevin in that silly floopy $175 tee. LOL Joe’s jacket is just horrible BTW. Nick has on this old man sweater but he rocks it. He has the best shoulders/neck of the brothers – he lucked out there. THe other two are slimmer with more slopier shoulders.
Anyway … Ryan is on the bongos. So that is interesting!
LOL I just re read my previous post… I meant I know I am going to want to re-watch tomorrow night’s performance.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=360128844596
everyone see how it’s doing? Quite well! Out of my price range LOL.
This one is up to $500!

And TS – well she’s at $67. Wah wah.
Are you guys going to watch the streaming party?

Also – the James Taylor and Brian Wilson Musicares Tributes CAN be purchased on DVD …
Pray pray pray that Neil’s will be made available too!
From http://www.ledger-enquirer.com/news/story/610202.html
“I watched last year’s entire Grammy Awards and all I remember is Tina Turner’s metallic, galactic spandex getup.
Not pleasant.
The Grammys still carry some level of prestige.
But for the average viewer — already set in a pattern of favorite musical playlists — the actual awards often take a back seat to the on-screen drama.
So this year, I’m ditching the official categories and handing out some advance awards to artists bound to join Tina Turner’s spandex in my memories.
Consider these distinctions:
Most likely to be your guilty pleasure: Teen heartthrobs the Jonas Brothers.
With a chance of winning Best New Artist, and little likelihood they’ll take heat for their purity rings, the three brothers will be in their element at the Grammys.
Translation: You’ll be the envy of the party when you brag about discovering them on the Disney channel.”
*Chills*
WDT: Dare to Dream!!!
(even if it’s sorta backhanded…baby steps?)
Amen Mememoi amen!
I could not have said it better. WDT dare to dream, and we are along for the ride while they are livin’ the dream! *Sigh* I would be so lost without all of you…
Awwww. That is nice. I am so excited for tomorrow.
I totally SQUEEEEED (my DH even played along squeeing with me) when we were watching SNL and the ad for next week flashed in BIG letters “ALEX BALDWIN THE JONAS BROTHERS”.
Yikes! Guess it was just a glitch (or do you have a cat like mine that stands on the ‘enter’ key?)
Re: CB. She is gorgeous, but I can’t say I like her with Joe. It’s not jealousy or anything like that…I can’t even put my finger on it. If I were going to grasp at straws, I’d just say I feel she is too old for him. I know in the grand scheme 3 years isn’t much, but at this point in their lives… I don’t know. But, as I said before, it is awesome (drink!) that he is able to go out with this lady who, a year ago, was basically unreachable. He’s been able to get to know this woman he’s had an intense crush on from afar….but sometimes that leads to putting the person on an undeserved pedastal, and I’m really afraid that she might let him down. Hard. I really, really, don’t want to see Joe with a badly broken heart.
Sorry. It’s just been bugging me. And I still wonder what Mama J thinks!
Still freaking about the Grammy’s. I KNOW they will win. I feel it! But that whole curse thing is a little unnerving. However, if they don’t win, I feel a little better since they will be in good company – Elton John, Elvis Costello, and John Mayer were all up for the award and DIDN’T win! Goes to show it doesn’t make you any less of a musician!
Trish, I totes agree with everything you say-since he has admired her from afar for awhile it puts a whole different spin on things.
And looking at last night’s pictures on Jonashq they all look amazing. Joe for the 2nd night is wearing that ring around his tie, wonder if it means something?
And it’s safe to say there will be no JB/Katie Perry collaboration in the future. they look like they can’t get away fast enough.
I am so excited/nervous!!!!
I think the tie ring is an accessory?? Anyway, look at it here. It clips in the back. I never saw one before Joe wore it, but maybe it’s a way to add some bling to his suit?
Click on the photo for high res that will blow your mind.

Here it is! For the man who has everything I suppose …

Oh I’m so excited I can hardly stand it. Loved the pics of the boys from last night. They looked great! Hope there were no awkward run-ins if you know what I mean.
