They’ve Influenced Me Greatly. [Watch]

January 29, 2009 by cpaig

jonascollage20921

Here’s a quick teaser vid for Katie Couric’s All Access Grammy Special which will air on CBS at 9pm EST on February 4th.

The Guys are asked about their influences, both personal and from the music industry (though they are intertwined), and who they would like to have dinner with. There is not a lot new, but I think that is awesome! Who wants an inconsistent rock star who doesn’t love his parents? Not me.

Check it out after the jump!

more about “Quick Hit: Jonas Brothers Video – CBS…“, posted with vodpod

I know they have mentioned many of these influence before, and some go without saying, but I don’t think they can really be over-emphasized. So, below you will find some goodies relating to each mention. I tried to give you some fresh new stuff.

Papa & Mama J

*Sniff* – this ALWAYS gets me.

Elvis Costello

Johnny Cash

Prince (does not like YouTube, so I give you another pic).

That little pic of Prince in there is so funny. Great job on the montage!

On Tuesday, February 10th, the Jonas Brothers will be on Moviefone Unscripted. so what is that, and how would we listen to it???

  3. on January 29, 2009 at 12:41 am flamom

Isn’t this cool?! I LOVE Neil Diamond!

Jonas Brothers performing at 2009 MusiCare Person of the Year event!

Neil Diamond will be honored as the 2009 MusiCares Person of the Year on February 6 — and the line-up of performers continues to grow! This list of performers includes Jennifer Hudson, Jonas Brothers, Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, Coldplay, Foo Fighters, and Adele. Plus the reception and silent auction will be hosted by comedian Jimmy Kimmel.

Diamond will be honored for his exceptional artistic achievements as well as his philanthropic work. The Grammy winner made significant contributions to the hurricane relief efforts in Texas for areas ravaged by Hurricane Ike.

Hmmm. IDK – I will look into it. Thanks for the tip!

  5. on January 29, 2009 at 12:44 am flamom

Oh, and yummy on the Brad Paisley photo! :)

  6. on January 29, 2009 at 12:46 am cpaig

Hmm . I will look in to that Feb 6th thing too…

  7. on January 29, 2009 at 12:49 am Tiffany

I watched the HSM cast on Moviefone Unscripted and it was really cool. They all just sat down and answered questions that were sent in, and then asked each other questions too. I was cool because it was a different environment than just having an interviewer because they asked each other the questions.

  8. on January 29, 2009 at 1:08 am flamom

Hey, I did not know that Joe and Nick were both in MTV News’ 2008 Men And Women Of The Year list (#3 and #7 respectively). That is cool!

  9. on January 29, 2009 at 1:30 am mememoi

Yep, flamom! It was neat. But that was the ranking that made me lose faith in the year end rankings:

    :P

  10. on January 29, 2009 at 2:31 am Trish

I miss Katie Couric being on the Today Show.

    Sorry for the randomness. LOL!

  11. on January 29, 2009 at 7:08 am merry27

Trish I’m sure Katie couric misses being on the Today show too ;)

Cpaig all the clips are great but I love, love, love that U2 video. I haven’t seen that in years.

And I would love to be at the Joe-Jim Carey dinner.

  12. on January 29, 2009 at 7:57 am flamom

you girls want to see this I’m sure:

    http://www.oceanup.com/2009/01/27/jonas-brothers-rares%20(23).jpg

    and the other rares.

Mememoi – I am so sorry I have such a bad memory of stuff!

  13. on January 29, 2009 at 8:38 am mememoi

Oh no, that’s ok!! I don’t mind any opportunity to post old thread links. :)

    Also, Katie Couric rules.

    And good morning!

  14. on January 29, 2009 at 8:46 am flamom

Oh thanks Mememoi – it’s a problem of mine. I also am bad with spatial relations.

Anyway, what do you think of that picture and the other ones? I am loving them! Nick at 13 is mostly so adorable (until he got so thin). And Joe in glasses? And Kevin’s t-shirt collection? and more SGD mysteriousness. Joe in a BSB tee – ha!

(I am so so glad btw that Kevin never did the waxing eyebrows thing … and so so glad Joe gave that up. I am all for a little bit of manscaping but not the eyebrows unless you literally can’t see skin between them.)

  15. on January 29, 2009 at 8:47 am flamom

The link got messed up at the end – so cut and paste!

  16. on January 29, 2009 at 9:12 am merry27

thx flamom. There are some good ones. That one of them in the white pants/shirts where they are wearing the same thing is pretty funny. I’m so glad they don’t wear the same clothes like that anymore.

Just heard Demi will be on GMA this morning.

Also read in the paper yesterday that the Clique Girls are going to be doing Baby Bottle Pop commercials. I don’t know anything about them but I know that they will never top the JBs version.

  17. on January 29, 2009 at 9:31 am mollyanne

Good morning everybody. Thanks for the thread cpaig! Nothing like a little Jonas new to brighten your morning. I’m still sick as a dog and coughing up my lungs and I came thisclose to getting stuck in the snow on my way to work. Booooo winter weather. I am so ready for some sunshine and above freezing temps. :)

  18. on January 29, 2009 at 9:44 am merry27

    Mollyanne, feel better! poor you.
January has been the worst weather week. I am so looking forward to our Jonas filled February.

  19. on January 29, 2009 at 9:45 am merry27

January is a month. I know that.

  20. on January 29, 2009 at 10:00 am mollyanne

Lol thanks merry. Yes January has been extremely long, cold, and not fun. I cannot wait til Feb.- so many exciting things coming up.

  21. on January 29, 2009 at 10:03 am mollyanne

Well January wasn’t a total loss. We did have the boys for NYE even if that was technically Dec. We had the live chat which was amazing. The inauguration hoopla.

It’s just that Feb. will be even better. Hopefully with no snow.

  22. on January 29, 2009 at 10:10 am ponedbyjb

Good Morning all. What a great post!
U2 has had quite the career.. I never really stop to think a lot about it, but wow.

Brad Paisley is pretty amazing! ;) Good call Kev.

I love John Mayer :D … I have never seen that Clip before.. thank you!

Lastly, I do not know what rock I have been living under, but this was the first time I have seen “I am amazed”… I couldn’t help but cry~

  23. on January 29, 2009 at 10:13 am mememoi

Merry – I am working on a post about that very Baby Bottle Pop article! Coming soon!! (ish)

  24. on January 29, 2009 at 10:24 am mememoi

Molly – feel better!! Who is taking care of you and filling you up with hot soup and herbal tea, dang it?!!! I demand they step it up. ;)

flamom – I always love the old pictures – I simply love Joe in glasses. He definitely had his awkward phase, though, didn’t he? I mean, he was always very charming to me but when I first got into them I most definitely did NOT expect Joe to turn out “hot”, as it were.
And regarding his brows I don’t think those pictures even get the worst of it…LOL…we always call it “brow-nerexia” in our family. I think I sympathized with him for that, because I SO had that phase as well, in my mid-teens. Heehee. But seriously, he probably got teased about them a lot. I have seen a couple of pictures of him from community theater days when he was maybe 10 or so, IDK? And his eyebrows were never kidding around. Ha. But he has grown into them nicely. We love your natural eyebrows, Joe!!

  25. on January 29, 2009 at 10:29 am flamom

Who agrees with me that Joe also takes a lot from Michael Hutchence of INXS? He moves very slinky like Michael sometimes. I know Jagger is a huge influence but he definitely has the slinkiness and sultriness of Hutchence as well.

  26. on January 29, 2009 at 10:29 am ponedbyjb

    Moll,
I am sending you lots of happy thoughts… PLEASE feel better!!

  27. on January 29, 2009 at 10:30 am flamom

Merry – that white outfit was for the Year 3000 video. I was put off by seeing Miley there. I guess I don’t like to think about that anymore (I used to LOVE them together until she got so obnoxious).

  28. on January 29, 2009 at 10:33 am mollyanne

Nobody :( My mommy lives 3 hours away. Don’t mind my pity party. It seems so much worse when you’re half buried in snow. But oh man hot tea sounds good.

    Joe in glasses. :)

  29. on January 29, 2009 at 10:35 am flamom

Mememoi – I also would not have figured Joe for developing so sexily, and for getting the whole sultry/hot/staring you down/melting you with his eyes thing down so well. Just 2 years ago you could only see that talent a teeney tiney bit. If you’re being honest, he was more cute and adorable than hot until 2007. Yeah, he’s grown up perfectly. No one could do it better.

Those eyebrows do mean business. I LOVE THEM. First, I love his hair color more than I could describe in 1000 words. And I love its texture and everything about it. So the brows are a work of art IMO. They suit him really well, with his olive complexion – they give him a little bit of swarthy manliness and he needs it.

I find it so interesting that Nick has such sculpted brows. They work really well for him and would also look good on a woman to be honest. THey are beautiful. He is more delicate and fine. Of course his lips are a huge asset. He had to grow into those – and he has!

  30. on January 29, 2009 at 10:37 am mollyanne

Thanks K! You too. Don’t worry, since I couldn’t get to work yesterday (and was really too sick to do that) I spent all day in bed watching everything Jonas I had on my dvr + camp rock and I re-read their whole book. Plus I took two long naps.

Plus, my bag came! It’s adorable. The strap is the perfect length- definitely longer than in the picture.

  31. on January 29, 2009 at 10:39 am mememoi

I agree flamom – I hope they’re aware of INXS! And I think Joe does a good job of taking the best of Jagger and toning it down as necessary. :P

It’s funny and interesting, watching some of these hero videos, you get the old legends so blown up in your mind and you forget what they were actually like in reality…(that is not one of Jagger’s best vocal performances up there, IMO.)

It’s easy to get hypercritical on the boys as they are so young and learning and growing, but the Jonases REALLY have the makings to be every bit as good (and in some respects even better) than some of these people they admire. Even more than I realize, myself, sometimes. I hope they know that, too!

  32. on January 29, 2009 at 10:39 am flamom

OK – I have some bad news too. My poor 5 year old boy is home from school … he had sniffles on Tues and Weds but then last night he was up at 2 am, stuffed up so bad he threw up big time. It was in the bathroom but it was bad. (DH cleaned it up – isn’t he great.) I took care of Ethan – he had a temp of 104 or higher – I couldn’t even take his temp properly because he could not close his mouth for 20 sec. So he and I slept on his floor for a while – my DH had to go to Walgreens to get more meds – and then we were on the sofa around 4:45. He is sleeping now on the living room floor. Poor poor kid!

And my DD was so jealous of me taking care of him, she was really making a scene before school. And Ethan last night was saying how I would be with Rachel and now I was with him. And she is saying the opposite of course. Envy is really a destructive emotion.

  33. on January 29, 2009 at 10:42 am flamom

Oh yes, I totally agree mememoi. I remember when I was in the throes of Duran Duran I could tell that Simon was not a strong singer in 1982 even though I loved him. He did not have endurance at live shows. By 1984 he had developed a lot more strength and could perform much better.

Joe was better at 16 than my heroes of old. They have a lot, a ton, of talent. I have no doubt they are going to go far far far.

PS The Alchemist???? anyone????? It is AWESOME. Really. I totally see Joe (and Nick) in it and I really love it so far. I’m really excited about it.

  34. on January 29, 2009 at 10:44 am mollyanne

Oh flamom, poor Ethan. Give him a hug for us!

You said it perfectly re: Joe’s hair. It is so the perfect color. *sigh* He’s just so beautiful.

  35. on January 29, 2009 at 10:55 am flamom

    Details on Katie Couric

    are at cbsnews.com – I can’t post the link – her special

    Thank you MA!!!!

Oh, Joe. I look at him and think what a treasure he is.

Did anyone hear Demi talking about her upcoming CD? She really sounds like she just has no idea what she wants to do. I think she should take a step back and really think this whole music career thing THROUGH.

  36. on January 29, 2009 at 11:00 am coolmom823

flamom, hope your son is better soon and that no one else gets sick!

Awesome post cpaig, natch. It’s great to see the legends that have influenced the guys. And nice to remember that the legends grew into their artistry as well, they didn’t start out awesome. And JB is much, MUCH younger than these guys and so accomplished already!

  37. on January 29, 2009 at 11:08 am ponedbyjb

Flamom, I am sorry. Give Ethan lots of love from all of us, Poor Baby! :(

I am going to refrain from talking about the Sexiness of one Joe Jonas… I fear I would not be able to stop! I will say however that I am quite sure that stare could make me do anything! :P

    Also I totes agree… Joe in glasses = ♥

  38. on January 29, 2009 at 11:12 am mollyanne

I did read what Demi said about her second album flamom. I really hope she takes her time. She has the potential to put out something really great I think. I feel like she probably feels conflicted. She wants to write really heavy stuff I’m sure but with Disney, she has to gear it towards the younger viewers. That’s where the boys came in for her first album- they helped her turn her stuff into something really good and appropriate. But they can’t be there to do that all the time I wouldn’t think. That’s probably why it seems as though she has no idea which direction she wants to go in.

She’s such a talented and sweet girl- I hope they let her take her time.

  39. on January 29, 2009 at 11:17 am mememoi

Oh poor baby Ethan, I hate to see the kids get sick. :(

I saw a tidbit about Demi’s CD…is she basically pushing a new sound or what?

  40. on January 29, 2009 at 12:11 pm flamom

It makes me concerned to hear #1 she likes dark metal but #2 she records fluffy pop #3 she can’t write the fluffy pop very well so she gets help with it and now #4 she is considering singing like John Mayer. ????? What??? John Mayer???? He’s dark but he’s not metal…

And she hasn’t started writing the songs yet but is looking at releasing it in 7 months?? and not even knowing what is going to be on it? (wow things have changed since the days when a band would work on their next LP for a couple of years…)

Plus the fact that she is talking about it like that in public.

THank you for the well wishes for Ethan! He is still sleeping! I’ve been listing on eBay for almost 4 hours!

  41. on January 29, 2009 at 12:43 pm coolmom823

Yeah, it seems like Demi has a strong dark vein running through her music sensibility that is completely at odds with her Disney packaging. I’ve been wondering what would happen to her after JB stopped shepherding her through her songwriting. It seems like her own lyrical voice is inappropriate for the audience she is supposedly courting. She can sing someone else’s material, but that will lessen the “credibility” she had gained from writing with JB. It seems like Disney expects her to start pulling her own weight without trailing after JB any more, but it seems like she doesn’t know how to do that.

  42. on January 30, 2009 at 11:13 am Elisa

Wow, what an awesome post! Thanks cpaig!!

I love Johnny Cash (although I didn’t know anything about him until I saw Walk the Line… Which is kind of embarrassing. :) But I WAS only 14 when it came out. Lol)

Elvis Costello… There’s just something really COOL about him. I don’t know what it is! His musical talent is probably a factor, lol. And honestly just the fact that Nick really admires him… Because I admire Nick so much. If that makes sense at all. :)

Jim Carrey is hilarious! Can you imagine what it’d be like to have dinner with him and Joe? You wouldn’t probably get to eat anything because you’d be laughing non-stop.

I had no idea Michael Jackson sang that song!! Today’s one of those days when I feel like I’m about 4 days old. I think I had only heard a remix of the song… Unfortunately I only know the freaky side of MJ, and sometimes forget that he’s also one of the most legendary musicians of our time.

Love Barack Obama. Won’t say anything about George Bush. :P
