Today, I’m feeling less fixated on auld lang syne – that’s “the days gone past”* – than the days yet to come. Since we’ve just reflected pretty thoroughly, and there’s more reflection where that came from, it’s out of my system for the time being and I feel like yelling, “ONWARD“!
[*Yeah, I had to look it up - and I enjoyed the Scots dialect I found there, hence tonight's title, cuz Robert Burns rulezzz!!]
So, at this moment that means, at least in part, anticipating the Boys’ performance on New Year’s Rockin Eve. Or checking out where they will fit into Disney Channel’s Totally New Year.
…Or perhaps just feeling the stress and tension of quandaries about facial hair** and fear of unruly crowds of very young women desperate enough to brave this cold for the Jonases, and therefore capable of anything. Ohmygoodness.

Yeah, no facial hair! I have to admit I’m relieved at least partially. Joe really really got to me just now. He played that camera and it honestly is like he is singing straight at me. He is fantastic. Gosh he is beautiful. Ahhhh.
I guess Nick can use his pick with a glove – what a guy. I did feel sorry for Kevin! (not Taylor – her choice to strip her coat you know?) They all looked SO gentlemanly and SO handsome just like I knew they would. Remember though how freakin’ adorable Nick was last year all long long curls?
They sounded 100% on and awesome. It’s such an honor to be the central performance of the biggest NYE celebration in the world, and on so many millions of TV sets. They really are superstars. And I saw a few adults enjoying them, not to mention the 11:45 audience is on the older side, so hopefully that will help our cause!!

I got my to do list done – I just painted my fingernails and toenails navy blue! It’s really dark but not black. First time I tried it, definitely different and I like it! They are super short so it works.

Wow, Demi gets to be there but not Selena, not Danielle, not Mom and Dad or Frankie and not Camilla. It makes me feel bad I’ll be honest. It just does not seem fair – I understand but ugh. And how awkward with TS right there and Joe in the Nick/Miley far away formation. I was so uncomfortable for Joe even in my living room! I don’t know what to think, I just feel awful. And no champagne or even hot chocolate – come on ABC they are freezing! And it is the countdown. All “normal” people get their loved ones and a beer or champagne and our favorite boys get neither.

Well, this is quite the feather in JB’s cap. The last performers before the ball drop – the primo spot. And they were delicious, all of them. I’m so proud, *sniff* I could cry!
I’m totally alone too. Kids were asleep at 9 and DH went to bed before the Jonai performed. I taped all relevant parts LOL!

It’s not terrible, I know. And I’m sure they are glad to be in this wonderful place at this wonderful time. I guess I want them to have this rockstar stuff and the normal stuff and they just can’t have both. Lots of people make trade-offs like that – I realize. I’m thinking back to my younger days when NYE was such a huge huge deal to me and I guess I’m sad that my kids are not going to be awake at midnight (nor should they be) and when they are they might want to be with their friends, and DH and I are not that interested (obviously) in the actual “moment” anymore either. I guess I want the Jonas boys to feel what I got to feel when I was young and passionate. But I never got to perform in front of millions in TS, right?

I saw everybody hugging after the ball dropped flamom. i wondered if maybe Joe or somebody hugged her after the camera panned away. It’s something they would probably do. Demi and her hugged it out quite a bit though after it dropped so I didn’t feel too bad.
Maybe that’s why Demi was there. She was the “Designated Hugger” for the night, LOL.
And in feeling sorry for Taylor in that moment, I agree – that is also why even when I worry about the pitfalls of their job and lifestyle, I feel comforted that those Jonas boys have each other. Maybe it hasn’t worked for every family band, but so far, they seem to be so good for each other. At least two people ready to stand between you and your “issue”, whatever it may be. I hope they always have that.
You know what….part of me wants to feel bad and part of me does not feel bad at all. I suppose all that matters is that it didn’t take away from Joe enjoying the night!

We watched a lot of Snick at these parties as well… Like “Are You Afraid of the Dark”. Very early 90s.
We also did a fair amount of Bloody Mary, Light as a Feather Stiff as a Board, Truth or Dare of course, and other ridiculousness….which I think was normal….?
I had some legendary sleepovers. I traumatized my mother forever by having about 20 girls over for my second grade party (what was she thinking?); 3 of us who were determined not to sleep at all. At the age of 8. I would have locked me up in my room forever.
I know! It was on the other day….I loved seeing it again. Oh man.

Disney has really just taken over, and I think they are doing their entertainment job well and deserve it. I know lots of people who have worked or are going to work for them now in various ways (none Jonas connected that I know of – darn! LOL). Tlatz: I was a development intern! I did coverage of scripts and pitches that had no chance of ever being produced and made copies, and tape dubs of shows for the development execs’ meetings. It was pretty awesome, I was there on and off for about a year. Like any work it was mostly dull…but the most random things I ever did were Big Help Telethons. Once I ended up at a bar after the show with a group of people that included Little Pete from Pete & Pete, Josh from All That and Steve from Blue’s Clues…that is probably the most exciting thing I could tell you. LOL.

OK so one more thing – wasn’t it funny now that we saw the minute by minute schedule of the night, how every performance literally was exact to the minute? 10:38 – 10:44 and so on. They ended exactly when they were supposed to – all of them, TS, Lionel and JB.

Everyone is going to sleep, but I just want to add one last comment since the performance finally aired here (I refrained from watching the Youtube video). Just like you all said….the performance was soooo good. I agree with coolmom that it was a bit ironic that they played “Burnin’ Up,” but the song selections were perfect because they are fun, upbeat and makes people move around.
I know Joe usually jumps around a lot during “Tonight,” but seeing him do that tonight was extra cute because you could tell that he was also trying to keep warm.
They all looked great. You guys weren’t lying about Joe’s hair. It was just so perfect. Breathtaking. For some reason Nick really looked like his young age tonight, it was cute and I liked his hat. And Kevin looked so handsome. All three were just very put together (not a surprise
)

so I had to check in! You ladies are so great! THe boys were totally amazing! Gorgeous, sweet, funny, talented, and they were so happy. It warms my heart! I too would have loved to have been there! I was really worried about them being so cold though.
Joe is oh SO yummy, and I totally agree, classy is dead on!
TS ANNOYING! She sounded terrible, and I just want to tell her to get over herself, and stop digging at Joe. Okay, I am done ranting.

Good morning one and all!
I got up on 4.5 hours sleep and happily rewatched the clips (not pulled yet!), and showed them to LBF who was weeping that she didn’t make it to see the performance, or midnight.
The grin on her face as she got to relive the moments on YouTube, anyway, was very gratifying.
The Joefan in me has to say that in the performance video above, 5:17 to 5:44 is SUPERB! It is mostly about Joe there for me, BUT the fact that it’s got lots of Kevin and Nick doing the ‘whoa-oh’s is very helpful. Their harmony there was marvelous. And if I have to get more specific, 5:29 is my favorite moment throughout.
It is moments like these that make me think I should probably begin to accept I am not one of the few people who find Joe Jonas to be stunning and amazing. But nevermind that…(*mentally blocking legions of fans from my consciousness*) This was said last night, but Joe’s ability to work a camera and make you feel like he’s addressing only you is unsurpassed and among the top things that hooked me on them. OK, probably #1. That’s right, Joe, it’s just you, and me!!! LOL
Happy to see so much Jack all bundled up (and hunched over and blowing in his hands, aww), a little bummed that Garbo isn’t easier to see back there throughout the performance!

Hello, ladies! Sorry I missed all of the Reveling last night. I would have loved to be in on the party. You have already said what I thought… they were stellar, I worried about them being so cold, but they seemed so happy!
And I have watched again this morning and it is still an incredible performance.
A central concert and a sleepover would be too much fun! I am certainly in.

It was quite the experience trying to hold back my excitement for the boys. Luckily, a have one friend who shares my love, and we sat with her 12 year old sister and watched the show.
I loved that they were so energetic throughout the whole thing. I’m pretty sure the bitter cold helped keep them moving. I loved the irony of them playing Burnin’ Up, when it was like 2 degrees outside.

I really enjoyed last night. I switched back and forth between Disney and ABC. (I have such a pathetic life!) I thought Nick was the smart one wearing a hat. They say you lose 90% (or some high percentage) of your body heat through your head. I worried about his left hand being cold, Joe’s fingers being cold, and poor Kevin’s hands being cold.
Loved their perfomance plus I thought Lionel Richie did great. I wasn’t so thrilled with Taylor Swift’s. And I thought it wasn’t that smart of her to remove her coat in single digit wind chill just to show her sparkly dress.
I’m looking forward to a great 2009 with the Jonas Brothers!

I was thinking today-I have been lucky enough to celebrate New Years in many different places all over the world (including Times Square) but last night was probably the most fun I’ve had in a long time. It was just what I needed-an epic performance, the JBs celebrating the countdown, and all sorts of amzing posts from the ladies on SR. And they’re still coming today. Hooray!!

I watched last nights performance on Youtube, they looked so happy and gorgeous.The TS part of the night was awkward but they didn’t seem to care.Demi looked like she was there as a mediator as well as the boys best music friend.She looked adorable as always.

Just checking in to say Happy New Year everybody!! I was celebrating New Year’s with friends, but we managed to watch the Jonas Brothers and ABC!! Yeah!! When I got home at 2:00 a.m., I didn’t have enough energy to read the 140+ comments. LOL.
I seem to have a cold which is causing exhaustion. I slept for 3 hours this afternoon and am just now getting online and read all your comments. I love reading all your comments!

That is a very pretty photo of Joe. I try to remain brother neutral as well Tiffany, however Joe always seems to manage to jump a little bit ahead of the other two for me.
I clicked through the other photos in the set from the link Elisa provided and I’m not real sure about Joe’s choice of footwear. I don’t like when boys stuff their pant legs into boots. And even as I say that, the more I look at the ensemble of his, to his credit, Joe does kinda make the look work. Go figure.
I also wanted to mention that I just watched the Jonas preview. And I’m excited. Really excited. There I admitted it. I’m not sure I’ll know what to do with 30 minutes of JB each week. Yes, I’m still unsure about the premise, the writing, their acting ability, the target age demographic, etc. but really, May can’t come soon enough.

Wow, all these comments! I echo everyone’s thoughts on the performance. Excellent! I loved how Joe was all crazy and silly at the ball drop and I swear I saw an eye roll from TS. We went to a party so we DVR’d it and watched it several times just to see the crazy tension, although Joe seemed quite silly to the point I thought maybe he’d reveled in bit of holiday cheer! Kidding – I think he was just cold. I don’t feel one bit sorry for TS – she made her bed, burned her bridge, etc. She seemed to be kind of lonely up there. Thank goodness for Demi! I had to turn off her performance (sorry Mae). She so needs to move on. I was thinking Ryan might have a little fun with the situation, but he didn’t.
Happy New Year to everyone! My mom icame home from the hospital yesterday, but is just not the same. Her liver is bad (she’s never drank in her life) and is on oxygen (she’s never smoked). Doesn’t that suck? She at least could’ve lived it up a bit more if she knew all this was going to happen! Ha – sometimes you have to laugh or you’ll just cry.
Those of you going to the Ryman show – have tons of fun! Can’t wait to hear about it in great detail!

I admit her performance last night was not great. But you know what, that was kinda to be expected. It was freezing and it is no secret that she doesn’t have a strong voice – her real talent is her songwriting ability. I’m still scratching my head as to why she took off her jacket. Her dress wasn’t that cute 
I think it was a pretty gutsy move on her part to break out ‘Forever & Always’ (her song about Joe) in her medley last night. That was her first time performing any part of the song on TV as it is not a single or anything. Wonder if the boys saw any of her performance..
I also wanted to ask, did Demi do anything other than stand there for the ball dropping and hug Taylor? I’ve by trying to figure out the point of her presence.

Heh mollyanne, Ahh OK I got the “designated hugger” comments now – just re-read coolmom’s original post. I’d say she rocked her job, although even there as a buffer, I found it random for her to be present. I feel everywhere JB is these days, Demi isn’t far behind (i.e. Demi sang the National Anthem at on Thanksgiving when JB performed). I realize they have the same mgmt, including Kevin Sr., and are really good friends, but I still find it somewhat odd.
It kinda sucks they didn’t allow Kellie Pickler up onto the platform for the big countdown. She is one of Taylor’s best friends, and since Joe had his brothers and Demi, it would have only seemed fair for Taylor to have Kellie.
It was kind of random that there was no mention of Demi throughout the show, but then she just popped up in the end. She’s one lucky girl to have such a great friendship with the guys. There’s so many cool opportunities that she has had thanks to that relationship and similar mgmt.
Monica: It’s really inspiring to hear you with a positive attitude about laughing about the situation once in a while. Things work in such mysterious ways…sounds like your mom took care of herself all her life. I hope things get better soon.

I have to say I too love reading all the comments. It is just nice to have a place to share your Jonas love. Sometimes people just do not get it! I am so glad I never have to feel that here. I am excited to be a part of this new year of Jonas with all of you.
I am all about being a designated hugger, and having a sleepover/concert trip. I fully intend to go to a show this year, and I would love to go with people who share a love for them rather than go with my friends who will be going just so I don’t have to go alone.

On a totally different note, Nick has said his favorite movie is Juno. We watched it again last night, for the second time, and I still don’t get it. It’s funny/touching in places, but for someone to say it’s their favorite movie? I just don’t get it. Nick has also said ‘Dodgeball’ with Ben Stiller is his ‘jam’. I started watching it on TV and I don’t get that one either. I have tried and tried to like Ben Stiller but I just don’t get him. Maybe it’s just me.
Still, I’d like to sit down with Nick(!!) and have him tell me what it is about these movies that he likes. No offense at all to Nick, I’m just curious.

I wanted to add my two cents to the Demi thing, since it seemed random she was there…I’d say it’s just Disney’s logical effort to keep her in the public eye (or get her more out there) since they are banking quite a lot on her – a new DCOM, her new series, a tour on her own next summer (eek…which seems a bit much), so I would bet it was motivated by that business interest. ABC being Disney-run, the execs can do whatever they want to benefit themselves in that regard.

They have said that Kevin’s character is a bit of an airhead, so I think we can expect a “Jason” reprise. I will watch it, regardless, just like all you other Revelers.

I mentioned how cool it would be to be there, but I knew not even to try to get tickets because he was not going to drive me to Nashville to see the show. Mine was impressed that I drove myself and my daughter 10-1/2 hours each way to see the Burnin’ Up tour this summer. Usually on long trips, he and I trade off about every 2-3 hours of driving just to make it easier on each other.
It was a lot of driving by myself and I was tired, but the payoff? Priceless.

Everybody has their thing! For some people it’s sports teams, or whatever, you know? I know a bunch of people who did some extreme things for the Phillies this year.
Re: Taylor Swift, it is interesting to hear the thoughts on her. I didn’t think she was terrible, and I get some of her songs in my head too, but my main issue with her (besides the teen dramas) and why I don’t buy her albums is her withering voice.
I like my female vocals to sound a lot more muscular and, well, butt-kicking than that. After all the drama I find it is a constant reminder of her boy-focused, victim-y persona, and when I add that to the multiple references to being a princess and stuff…it is not something I can really hang with more than rarely. But she does seem like a songwriting talent…
The jacket-removal thing was a misplaced bit of “bravery”. OMG, her poor arms!!!
I do wish the boys would bury the hatchet with her in some way, already. It’s such a weird, petty distraction.

About the CDs/DVDs, I must admit I would probably buy ANYTHING that the Boys ship. Without question. But I would be thrilled to see the LTD series compile and released. The Live and Mobile has some great moments, but the production quality leaves something to be desired. I would still buy it.
I loved Juno. It is an odd pick for a teenage boy, but Nick isn’t your typical teenage boy. In the end, I felt like the message was that love was the greatest gift and that you have to be true to who you are. That resonates with my view of JB. Kevin has said About a Boy is his favorite, and the message there is quite similar. So maybe that is it?
As for Ben Stiller, meh. He goes about 50/50 with hits and misses for me. My DH loves him. As do his brothers, so maybe it is a guy thing?
I am essaying today. Apologies to all. Work is sooo quiet, but I have to be online in case my system has issues. So here I sit with my two PCs booted up, spending much more time on my personal machine than my business machine. Long sotry short: I am bored and it is too quiet.

mememoi that’s what I was trying to say about TS-I mean she’s got it all and made it at a very early age when most artists struggle for years. So stop being the victim. And I even thought at one point they might include her in Sunday’s concert-I know that sounds weird but I think that’s the kind of people they are-but after NYE’s it seemed pretty unlikely. Highly unlikely!

With regards to Taylor Swift……I guess she’s ok. Not exactly my favorite type of music to listen to. I thought it was a foolish stunt to remove her coat in freezing temperature. I thought “what is she trying to prove?” Just a dumb stunt in my opinion. Yes, she did look “uncomfortable” during the ball drop, and I agree that Demi was there merely as a buffer. Merry, I really thought the same about Nashville…I thought it would be a logical end to the story, shake hands, make up, move on. I think they would still totally do it…don’t know if she is ready. They are such game guys!
I personally interepreted Joe’s mega-hyper NYE behavior as his way of channeling the awkwardness (as well as the COLD) into something – anything – else. Which I found sweet and very funny. I thought the best moment was just before the drop when Ryan was asking them if they were ready, Taylor started saying something slightly long-winded, but Ryan puts the mic in the Jonases direction. Joe did what comes naturally….and roared into the microphone, which slightly cut Taylor off. She didn’t look extremely pleased, he looked fairly oblivious. Oops. Heehee.
Did anyone else notice that?
We are flying into town on Sunday morning! So no rush yet.

And I did notice the entire scene you described-Joe was just sooooo pumped up and high on life!! Loved it.
It was like his entire 2008- good and bad -just had to come out. But I still love the Joe/Nick wrap around hug the best.
I thought maybe she woud be there….part of me thought no way but the other part of me thought what a great way showwhat great guys they are. After new years……heck no she isn’t near ready.

About the TS/JB awkwardness on New Year’s Eve: I wonder how Nick and Kevin felt about the situation. Nick went through the same thing last year, but do you think Taylor has dismissed the entire family? To me I think one blow to one brother ruins the relationship with the other brothers too. I don’t know it’s all just sad. I’m sure she was friends with the entire family during those months when she was flying out to shows.

We are loving the gaylord opryland! It is a small city. We are going 2 eat dinner soon . We did not realize we would be in cst zone so that was interesting.
My son lost his 3rd tooth at breakfast in ga. Top right one. His gap is THE cutest thing no lie!!

flamom: It’s great to read your updates! It’s making me feel more and more anxious for everyone that is attending the show! I hope that the road is treating you well and that the kids are not getting too restless on the drive.
Oh, since you mentioned it, I wanted to talk about the Team Jonas gift real quick…don’t read if you haven’t received your gift yet, and are waiting for the surprise………
While I do like the gift and the scrapbook is nice to look through, I am little disappointed on the package overall. I guess I was just expecting a little more. I was a member of Linkin Park’s fan club in high school (insert embarrassed face here), and the member gift was a lot more substantial. In addition to smaller items, like band photo and stickers, they sent out a t-shirt and exclusive CDs of rare demos and remixes. I would have loved to have received some sort of DVD or CD from TJ.
I was also expecting more from the TJ package, mainly due to the extremely long wait! Wow, a rare demo CD would have been the highlight of my life! LOL!
