Thank goodness for photos, then!
[Find out what the heck Kevin & Garbo are doing in that boat here.]
So we read recently about the Jonas Brothers’ new PR approach, allowing clamoring journalists to “embed” with them for a day, political campaign-style, one would assume in order to garner more thoughtful coverage of the band than they have gotten in the past (based on press releases – often containing outdated information – and conference calls – in which no one can seem to tell who’s saying what).
And also, I would think, to mercifully allow the Boys to spend their days outside, rather than trapped in hotel conference rooms doing interviews.
As the fruits of this strategy begin to show, I think it’s proving to be brilliant!! (Augh, politics, stop affecting my brain!!!)
There was the Boston Globe story, then last week brought us this sympathetic piece from the Allentown Morning Call; which I LOVED. Today brought us Sean Daly’s (of the St. Petersburg Times) approach to, as the writer himself describes it, “breathlessly relating” his take on a day with the Jonases. I can’t wait to see what comes next!!
What do you think of these “embedded” journalist stories?
[Via: Tampa Bay "Pop Life" Blog]

I stumbled upon the Sean Daly blog thanks to a Google Alert and have been following it all day.
I think the embedded approach is brilliant and allows the Boys to be themselves. The press really seems to enjoy spending time with them and skeptics seem to end up converts. Good stuff. Preparing for world domination!
I agree – It was a very good plan and has proved to be very effective!
As an aspiring music journalist, I would give anything to be part of one of these embedded press events!!
Like you said in the post, mememoi, they are SO much better than conference calls. It’s better for the boys because they get to do something different at each stop. It’s also better for journalists and readers because the writers get to know the boys in a different atmosphere that can inspire writers to take an array of different angles for their stories. This Tampa Bay one is excellent!
Here is the 411 on the VMAs – there was a press conference today:
“Right out of the gate, VMA host Russell Brand — looking resplendent in a black vest and super-tight trousers — made sure of that, welcoming the media to what he promised to be a “bloody exciting” event, and got his P.T. Barnum on, touting some of the big things show producers have planned for this Sunday, including a performance by “God’s favorite virgins, the Jonas Brothers,” which he proclaimed to be so excellent that “it will make the concept of an afterlife seem tame by comparison.”"
and
“Aguilera and T.I. then departed, leaving Brand to make even more VMA announcements, including news that in the first 30 minutes of the show, fans can expect appearances by Britney Spears, Rihanna, Pete Wentz, and performances by the Jonas Brothers (to be introduced by Taylor Swift), Rihanna and Katy Perry, who will apparently be trying her hand at replicating.”
Heh that article was absolutely great. I don’t usually actually laugh out loud at blog commentary but that blog had be giggling a few times. The line about the press wagering on which boat was particularly amusing – “Sean puts down $10 on Joe’s boat but only after convincing him to tape up the bottom better.”
I gotta say though, what an incredibly random activity. Building a boat out of cardboard and duct tape…WTF? Cute that they recruited their band mates as their partners.
It is definitely the stuff of manly bonding!!
In other triumphs…who has seen this student paper piece?! I think it is fantastic! Considered giving it its own post but I guess I am ruining that…

Saw the Rice Thresher piece, mememoi, thought you would like it. Gotta hand it to that girl – she shows rare chutzpa for age 20? 21? Kind of gives one hope for the future of our country!
Loved the Sean Daly blog! And the comments, from his Lady Love and various cronies, are a stitch too. The discussion of what he should wear and is he too old to be cool enough to hang with them? LOL. I can totally relate, if I ever got the chance to meet them I’d be completely mortified at how middle aged and pathetic I am.
I think these press junkets are allowing JB to be themselves – and don’t we know how irresistible the guys are when they are themselves? Plus, they’re WAY more fun to read about than the same ol’ same ol’ questions. Kudos to whoever’s brain-child this approach was. Maybe their press liaison? I read in one of the articles this summer that she used to work for political candidates.
In the comments on Sean Daly’s blog several people wondered why Kevin and Garbo were wearing life jackets? It WAS in a swimming pool wasn’t it? Not the open sea? Doesn’t Kevin know how to swim? Curious. . .
He seems pretty comfortable in the pool here:

LOL!
Maybe it is some sort of themed team outfit.
We are talking about Kevin here…LOL!
But he’s wearing some kind of floaty!!
In the video, that is.
Maybe it was part of the yuks. He certainly knows how to swim, growing up in AZ and Texas as he did.
I found the blog hilarious. I love the perspective of Sean. And I agree that the “embedded” press lets us see more of the real Jonas Brothers than the press conferences and the like.
Regarding the life jackets – here are a few thoughts, not sure which one is right:
Kevin is trying to set a good example;
he wanted to be in keeping with the theme of boating;
and here’s my best idea yet – it was the Titanic 2, so wouldn’t it seem appropriate to wear lifejackets like the passengers did on the Titanic? (as they were jumping off, debarking in lifeboats, etc.)
Or maybe Kevin tends to worry and he’s all about safety first??
Well, these are deep thoughts that I’m sure no one really knows the answer to definitively. The agony of not knowing! (Just kidding!)
Of course, Barbara! In “Titanic” everyone wanders around in life jackets for about 3/4’s of the film. That must be it. You’re brilliant!
Oh, heehee, I agree…(totes teasing about the floaty).
Of course my favorite but was Sean feeling “a gushing wave of man-love” for Joe after the dirty look, the fist bump, and the Hulk talk.
There ya go…dazzle away!!!
There SHOULD be a law against how charming Joe is, I do believe.
How about we ask the question through SR’s MySpace?!
So Kevin, when you and Garbo made that cardboard boat, how come you guys wore life jacketz?!
I actually thought the capsized team in the background of the picture of Joe’s boat was Nick’s team, but they’re definitely wearing life jackets. Either that’s Kevin’s team, or Joe was just living life on the edge going life jacket-less.
The article said Nick’s boat fell apart immediately upon entering the water.
Poor Nick! That must have really bummed him out, competitiveness and all.
Flamom, you took the words right out of my mouth!
I still can’t get over that his team won the Disney Channel Games. So funny. I don’t know if he could have handled losing. LOL
PS – the concert tonight in West Palm! (the one I am not going to)
It might be pretty awful – it is pouring here due to Hannah, and VERY windy, our screens are coming down on the enclosure outside. My recycling bin ended up in the neighbor’s yard! I can’t imagine those kids waiting in line right now to get “good” lawn seats. UGH, it is going to smell bad too with all the wet grass.
Good luck tonight, Flamom! I hope the weather will not deter from the show.
BTW, I am behind the video curve on YouTube. Spent some time last night catching up. I am so sad I told my daughter she is too young to go to a concert and we missed the Burning UP tour. The Boys are AWESOME performers.
I have new wallpaper: Kevin and Joe on drums. And all I can say is “Wow!”
Yikes…what a way to go out…hold onto all those thoughts (and favorite YouTube links, please)…a Burnin’ Up Tour Commemorative post is pending!!! Promise! (To make up for not covering our last show right away…life sometimes takes over!) it has been a fantastic tour, indeed.
Which brings to mind another question, mememoi…just how many ‘favorites’ You Tube videos of JB does everyone have?! (similar to the ‘how many pics/screensaver pics’ question)
My YouTube JB favorites are up to 380. Just sayin’…
I love you, Amanda.
My favorites…I believe I only have 99 videos!!! But…that doesn’t include my Playlists (Like my “MegaUltimate Playlist of Jonas Brothers Funtimes”….which kinda just stops at last fall….I got YouTubed out). I have several lists, which each have 45-80 vids in each…BUT there is a good deal of overlap, probably.
So, again. I FAIL.
I don’t save videos! (oh no)
I’m not going tonight – no tickets. Sad but true. So let it rain, you know? j/k
Awwww, mememoi, it’s mutual!
I watch them a lot…I was just watching one from last year, I believe, the boys are asking for people to vote for ‘SOS’ and at the beginning, Joe is looking down and then looks up all sexy and says, “Hey, I’m Joe.” Then at the end, Nick says …”we love you!” and does ‘Xs and Os’ and then Joe and Kevin do it, too. I heart them so much!
Here, just watch:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-hrVASijBDw
One of these days we should all share our favorite YouTubes and why…then we could all comment on each other’s favorites…although it might take weeks! lol
That is a great video Amanda! I can’t believe I have never seen it! (And it’s an official one too!)
The Xs-Os were so adorable. I’ve never seen anyone send kisses and hugs that way. I love how in-sync Kevin and Joe were with their Xs and Os ; P
Exactly, mae (Kevin & Joe in-sync). Just one of the reasons I love this video so.
I like it because I lurve to see Nick smile!!!!!!
I would NEVER have known those were Xs and Os … how did you know Amanda???
flamom – Nick actually says the words (quite quietly) Xs & Os as he makes them.
Thanks! Can’t hear with my kids in the room.
OH, I’m so upset. I just got a call from one of my friends. Her friend knows someone and just an hour ago got tickets and meet and greet passes for the boys. Here.
And the friend is going with her mom, and her 2 kids. The daughter is crying because she does NOT want to go. They are not Jonas fans. The grandmother is going for the status of going. My friend’s friend is going just for the heck of it.
And I really love them. And I can’t see them. And I’ll probably never meet them.
I could cry.
There will be more chances!
Aw flaman – doesn’t it figure. Why does the grandmother need the ’status of going’ to a Jonas Brothers show? Who exactly is this woman going to flaunt this too? I have this comical image of the grandmother trying to impress her retired tennis buddies with Jonas Brother stories.
Do they know how big of a fan you are?
Now the the Burnin’ Up tour is coming to a close I am really regretting not making it out to a show. I moved from NYC 4 days (!!!) before the boys played their Jones Beach show, followed by the 3 MSG’s shows. Not great planning on my part.
Oh well, I will catch them next time around for sure.
Ha I butchered your name flamom. Sorry about that – not quite sure how that type slip happened ; P
Flamom – I’m so sad and angry on your behalf. It’s NOT fair! I’m so sorry this happened.
Thank you! My son was so sweet. The phone just rang and I made a joke that the JB were calling because they needed me. And he said, “how could they be calling you? They don’t know your number yet.”
Isn’t that sweet? “yet!”
That’s the way!
It’s appropriate that tonight’s LTD was about the last concert of their last tour, on the night they wrap up this tour, I guess.
I can’t wait until they come back here! At least I am lucky enough to live somewhere they come often. I looked at their concert map and there are entire states they did not get to.
Can anyone say IDAHO? Of course, they have to go where the people are. I’m willing to travel…but it would be nice if they would play my backyard!! Literally!!
I don’t travel for concerts – I used to drive 5 hours north to Clearwater for a week every March to watch the Phillies spring training …
But I told my DH he is SO taking me to Tampa or WHEREVER if they don’t come to South Florida next time – I am NOT Missing the next show.
