We also have a friend who was diagnosed with Type 1 on the eve of his 30th Birthday. There are lots of theories (some even connected to a severe chicken pox outbreak when young - this is my theory for my hubby, because he has so many scars from his bout.) But I really don't know. Falmom, my husband was diagnosed when he was about 13 – and like Nick there was no family history.

The lasting effects he's having on children with diabetes are imponderable. He will totally change the way these kids think and feel about their condition and their limitations.
