Cool blog mention over on Entertainment Weekly’s POPWATCH! They’ve pitted the Boys against Pete Wentz in compiling a list of Top 5 all-time favorite music videos.
Commenters seem to be keening toward the Guys’ camp, too, in terms of who they think did a better job.
Maybe our favorite underdogs are really themselves finally becoming the life of the pop-rock party and winning everyone over? We fans can dream!
Their video picks…after the jump!
1. a-ha’s “Take on Me”: We found this on YouTube and loved it so much we added the song to our set list on our last tour.
2. Michael Jackson’s “Thriller”: This video set the standard for so many things — production, choreography, makeup, and wardrobe. It’s iconic. [Ed - FULL vid and short film here - it seems MJ is not fond of embedding!]
3. Beastie Boys’ “Sabotage”: We love the retro look in this video, and all the action scenes are awesome.
4. Fall Out Boy’s “Dance Dance”: The homecoming theme is cool… especially when the underdogs become the life of the party and win everyone over.
5. Chris Brown’s “Forever”: Chris is an amazing dancer. When critics were labeling him the new Michael Jackson, we took notice. [Ed - Who also emulates MJ in his apparent hatred of embedding (it is your friend, people)! Full video HERE!]
Pete Wentz’ choices can be found over there.

They have Great taste!
The video for “Take on Me” will always be #1
“Thriller” – I used to be TERRIFIED of this video – LOL – it is super awesome (My big sis used to watch it every morning before she went to school).
“Sabotage” – great, and good choice since many say that the video for “Burnin’ Up” pays some homage to it.
“Dance Dance” is cool, but I prefer “Safety Dance” - Men Without Hats were WAY ahead of their time with the Maypole (and the creepiness).
As for Chris Brown – as much as I like to double my pleasure as well as my fun, I find his dancing in “With You” to be cooler. (Incidentally, the Chris Brown/Michael Jackson comparison prompted our older sis to pull out this gem (link) - i don’t know if anyone will every really compare to him).
As for Pete’s list. I realize that he was wee when Smell Like Teen Spirit came out, and I will not deny that it is a ground breaking song (for me anyway), but – idk – i guess the vid is iconic.
November Rain? the best part when when the cake fell in the rain – LOL. Talk about an ego trip!
Thriller – Ok, Ok…fine
And I don’t know the other two.
The Boys should cover Safety Dance on the next tour – OMFG.
Also – no dissing GNR. They pwned before pwnage was….pwnable…to my 13yo Slash-loving, Axl-birthday-cake-baking self, anywho.
And did you know that Idolator revealed that Forever was WRITTEN with a Wrigley gum campaign in mind as it was produced? Sadness*.
I still believe in you, Chris Brown. If only because Jordin Sparks can’t breathe without you, and we can’t have that. That, and that he IS a great dancer, and adorable.
*One could argue that the Jonases have been made to do this at times…but so far not with a song presented as an honest original…you know?
That’s right – “baby bottle pop” is about baby bottle pops, and “American Dragon” is about a cartoon.
Maybe they should cover Plop Plop Fizz Fizz…like Chris Brown you know something like…
We are not gonna work this out tonight (we won’t work this out) we are not gonna make this right (we won’t make this right) Now my tummy’s tight I don’t feel alright (plop plop fizz fizz) Gonna drink it down…Tonight! (sorry, it is going through my head for some reason.)
LOL – sorry.
Ugh. You SHOULD apologize.
Kids of the Future is probably the closest/worst case in my mind…but again, it was a movie song, not unlike the direct Disney song covers.
