KEVOLUTION! [Haterade]

I am an unabashed Kevfan.

I am a fan for several reasons. I identify with his role with his siblings (even though I am a middle kid like Joe and Nick). I think he is very talented and has a good head for the music business, I like his style, and I think he is awesomely cute.

We also both have a boisterous laugh and sometimes says inappropriate things at inopportune moments.

But there are those out there who apparently hate Kevin Jonas. I am not one to keep up with forums or even read comments (especially when I know that there will be negative ones) but mimi (mememoi) tells me that there is a lot of hate in YouTube comments especially.

To add salt to the wound this gem landed in my inbox thanks to Google Alerts and Sharlene at Strolling at the Beach:

i was once totally in love with joe joe joe joe, he doesn’t look like his nerd brothers. nick jonas has a mop of hair while the kevin jonas is like a extra. heehee. dont kill me nick and kevin jonas fans

Worse yet were the concert “reviews” that claimed Kevin (along with the others) was playing nothing at all. Comments like these seem to be made for some snarky sense of superiority that JB bashing seems to give people. We hate that.

The most hurtful Kevin hate was perpetrated by Dave McKenna of The Washington Post. Mr. McKenna had a blast comparing the Boys to members of the Corleone Family.

As for Kevin, 20: He’s Fredo, the oldest, allowed to take part in the family business only because of blood ties. During a faithful cover of A-Ha’s schlocky gem, “Take On Me,” Kevin was down-stroking his Les Paul as furiously as Dee Dee Ramone would, yet no corresponding sound was coming out; it was as if the crew had unplugged his instrument. - David McKenna, The Jonas Brothers, Making an Offer True Fans Can’t Refuse, Washington Post, Monday, March 17, 2008; Page C04.

Pardon my French, but, WT… OK maybe this is just a wholesale dismissal of music he feels will never appeal to his readership, who apparently all have a cinematic I.Q that for the most part (he supposes) ages them out of the range of JB fans, i.e. the grown ups will think it is funny.

Well, not to be a geek, but Kevin is not Fredo - Fredo wanted all of the perks of being in “the family business” without having the brains or the desire to do the job. That is certainly not true of Kevin.

I am just going on record to say that I don’t get why people seem to dislike him and to ask people to stop the Kevin Jonas Hate. Please. While you are having all that fun hating you are going to miss the Kevolution.

Side note: I totally have above picture of Kevin as my desktop image on my laptop …well not with the love plea…it is from the Jonas Brothers Official Flickr photostream. I think it is beautiful. I even have it stuck to my monitor at work, my boss thought it was Elvis Presley. LOL!
